Yes, it was the produce section that got me in the door, but there's more than just that. Tastees has all kinds of Eastern European baked goods, cheeses and meats, imported shelf staples, etc. Nice treats too! The day I stopped by, they had just restocked their Milka chocolates, and there was a broad selection to choose from. Lots of authentic middle eastern groceries. Got some Aleppo chili peppers which is not available anywhere. Also got some Turkish yogurt. Got some real lavash, which was actually thin lavash. Great for shwarma and wraps. Got some orange blossom ice cream. Delicious! Tried middle eastern brand of orange soda. Refreshing! I had to exercise self-discipline and not buy some authentic Turkish delights. Will get them the next time. The owner lady was very friendly and helpful. Look for them on the corner of the lower level of an apartment building. Absolutely worth the visit. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. Instead, I left without buying a thing. The woman working there, who I believe may be the owner, had an incredibly cold and dismissive attitude. Every time I asked her a question, she would stare at me for several seconds with this puzzled, almost irritated expression, as though I had asked something completely unreasonable. Then she'd give me a short answer while already turning away or walking off. I was genuinely confused by the interaction. I couldn't tell whether she was annoyed that I was asking questions, unfamiliar with the customers she was serving, or simply didn't want to be bothered. What made it especially strange was the complete lack of warmth. Middle Eastern hospitality is usually the kind of thing you notice immediately, and this felt like the exact opposite. I wasn't expecting a red carpet or a three-course meal. I was simply trying to introduce myself, ask a few questions, and hopefully become a regular customer. I actually called afterward to explain why I left without purchasing anything. If making customers feel unwelcome is the business strategy, it certainly worked on me. If you're looking for a welcoming, old-world Middle Eastern shopping experience, this isn't it.

They have fish and other pork parts that I use to do traditional plates. They have root veggies, recao, breadfruit, tamarind and green bananas, all of my favorites. The only downside is that sometimes the whole store stinks very bad, I think is mostly the days were they are cleaning the seafood tanks. I got a half pound of the BBQ pork and steamed rice for $11... they would not take a tip and gave me a complementary bottle of water... the lady helping me was super nice. There is seating available inside Sam's. I've not tried the food yet but so far I like Sam's. Ocean Mart has a huge inventory of fruits and vegetables that you won't find in your local supermarket and the prices are significantly less than the major retailers. There's a butcher and a seafood section too.
