My favorite exotic market in Utah. I find everything I need to satisfy my island cravings here. They sell Coco Rico, a Puerto Rican soda. They have fish and other pork parts that I use to do traditional plates. They have root veggies, recao, breadfruit, tamarind and green bananas, all of my favorites. The only downside is that sometimes the whole store stinks very bad, I think is mostly the days were they are cleaning the seafood tanks. Normally the store have a particular smell but nothing intolerable. read more

I was just looking for BBQ Pork/Char Sui and found a strong rating from my fellow Yelpers for Sam's located inside Ocean Mart... let's go! The parking lot was full so good start... right next door is the state liquor store... so if you gotta go... Sam's is easy to find just to the right upon entering the store. There's a variety of stir fried veggies and veggie glass noodles that looked great. Hanging in a glass booth were the char sui and duck... I got a half pound of the BBQ pork and steamed rice for $11... they would not take a tip and gave me a complementary bottle of water... the lady helping me was super nice. There is seating available inside Sam's. I've not tried the food yet but so far I like Sam's. Ocean Mart has a huge inventory of fruits and vegetables that you won't find in your local supermarket and the prices are significantly less than the major retailers. A great Asian supermarket in Sandy, UT of all places! It pretty much has everything that the supermarkets I go to in Westminster, CA including live seafood! I bought a roast duck and some sides at Sam's precooked counter and it was excellent. What a pleasant surprise! It's so nice to find something great when you don't expect. We were able to get a box of jasmine green tea, some instant noodles and a corkscrew to make our stay at the local extended stay Hyatt more comfortable. We are here just for the skiing at Alta, Snowbird and Solitude. Our quality of life just jumped up a notch. read more

Came here last week. Why is the worker straddling the rice?!? This specific worker was sweaty and also wiping their snot all over their gloves touching products. As a customer I find this very disrespectful to those who will be consuming and purchasing the rice bags. Seems extremely unsanitary and made my shopping experience uncomfortable. read more

This is a rather small Chinese supermarket, but it has all of the essentials--fresh Asian produce, packaged food, snacks, seafood, noodles, a bakery, and a deli. I ordered some food from the deli and it was pretty good. The lady at the service counter was nice. This market is rather old, so it's not the prettiest to look at. Ignore the cosmetics and just focus on the content. It does the job if you are in need of Asian groceries and want some fresh pastries and hot food from the deli. read more

A nice variety of goods from fresh and frozen foods of many types (seafood, veggies, sauces, teas and other beverages). You can pick a fish and have it processed for you on the spot! There's even a handy little housewares and personal care section. Staff is friendly and helpful. Shout out to the woman who advised us how to clean the frozen eel that we bought. I haven't been to ocean Mart in quite a while. I came to get groceries for the lunar new year and I forgot how amazing this store is. Really great selection of produce. They have so many different types of meat and fish for any of your cooking needs. Lots of different spices , different types of noodles, and huge bags of rice. Just a really fun place. I went to Ocean Mart just for grocery shopping and they have a food court/bakery! Instead of grocery shopping, I decided to eat instead. I ordered a bunch of food because I was starving. I didn't order anything from the bakery, so maybe next time? The cashiers are young girls and the youngest looks suspiciously 10 years old. I'm not sure if she's allowed to work, but you know you're in an authentic asian place if there are kids working. LOL. Their customer service is okay. I wouldn't say it's the best. Accidentally said the food name wrong in Cantonese and instead of correcting you, they make fun of you. It's a huge turn off and an embarrassment for me. Oh well. What do you expect? They're young cashiers. For food, I enjoyed the curry fishballs the most. It reminded me of childhood. The congee is also delicious. It's so warm and hearty and it is meant for this fall weather. However, I did not like the lotus sticky rice. I wasn't able to finish it and sadly, I had to throw it away. Nobody wanted to finish it for me. The bubble tea has an interesting taste. I can't describe whether I like it or not. I wouldn't order it again. It's nice to have a grocery store that has a food court and bakery inside. Gotta say that this Asian Market blows all the other ones in the area out of the water. Great selection of meat, produce, snacks, and household items. The BBQ area is not bad. Can't recommend the duck but the BBQ pork and crispy pork are pretty bomb. Service is fast, and all employees speak English, mandarin, and Cantonese. Parking is pretty easy and there are always plenty of spaces. There is a membership system too that you can sign up for free to enjoy rewards. read more

This place is pretty good for what it is. I have been going to this place for 6 years now. I'm Filipino and do have those days where I crave Filipino food and with no Filipino supermarkets around. This is the closest thing, although they do have Filipino food here and there but not 100% there are times where I won't be able to find the specific food I want, and their competitor in south slc has it, even though it's a 20-30 min drive away from this place. One of our favorite markets that we will make the drive out to get some hard to find products at regular markets. We love the frozen potstickers , lumpia , fish sauces/patis, pork skewers, and Sisig in a box. Nothing beats freshly cooked items, but love we can get our fix as a family. Older kids love some the Asian treats/cookies and drinks (boba). They have an in house pace to get some Chinese food, but it didn't seem like a huge selection. read more

The best place to get authentic Asian food cooking ingredients! I love their 25 lb bag of jasmine rice. I also buy fresh lime leaves to freeze ... they make a curry taste amazing. Over time, this has become my go-to Asian market. I don't shop here regularly, but I definitely pop in with some frequency, especially when I'm after a few things. If you're curious about what they have generally, my original review and plenty of other reviews cover it nicely: large produce section, frozen goods, lots of pre-packaged sauces, a big meat counter, lots of candies, noodles, and cookware. Here are my favorite items: Herbs. No joke, you pay like $3-4 bucks for a twig at other places, but at Ocean Mart they pack a meat try, wrap it in cellophane, and it's a couple of bucks. Basil and mint, especially. Need a ton of mint? Unless your neighbor grows it (and if they do, they're dying to have you come by and hack back the growth) this is the cheapest place to get it. Kaffir lime leaf for the win! Quail eggs. Surely there are other places to find them, but come on, they're so cute and they're really affordable and did I mention how cute they are? Tofu. This is becoming more and more available in more traditional American stores, but you can't beat the selection here. All the firmness levels, lots of brands, lots of sizes. It's such versatile stuff, you gotta really explore it. Seaweed. So many kinds. All the kinds. And the stuff is so compact when dried, that if you buy a bag, it will last you forever. Dashi/spices/bonito flakes. All the mixins you need for serious saucey/soupy/flavorful endeavors, especially in the Japanese realm. Candy. All of it, really. It's a whole new world. Ramnune. If you haven't tried this drink, it's a terrible soda in a fun bottle that kids love. Pop the marble, turn it sideways... you'll figure it out. Galangal. I'm told they have it fresh sometimes, but I've only ever seen it frozen. Not unlike this, Lemongrass, only I see loads of fresh lemongrass here. If you're feeling Thai inspiration, go get it. Pork belly. It's frozen, but it's good. And cheap. Grab a big block of it. These are a few of my favorite things. But really, you just need to go and dive in. We are SO happy to have them right down the street from where we live. We moved to Sandy this past weekend, and we are originally from Hawaii. Because of all of the Asian influence we have in our foods back home, we need all kinds of Asian ingredients that aren't carried in most of the markets here. Winco and Macey's have a few of the ingredients we use regularly, but other things like: Mochiko powder, Aloha Shoyu, mustard cabbage, ulu...we can get all of these items here, and we just appreciate the convenience. We do realize there are other Asian markets in Utah, but having one in the town you live in, when you use these ingredients almost every day, is such a massive bonus. The market is clean and organized. I can get about 98% of the items we crave or need and that makes living in Utah so much better. The parking is shared with the State Liquor store and other small businesses. It was pretty busy on a Saturday evening, but I suspect it was largely due to the liquor store patrons, next door. The prices are ok. Some things are cheaper here than they are back home. That was pretty awesome too. read more

I haven't been to Ocean Mart in quite a while, especially since China Town opened in South Salt Lake. Decided it was time to revisit the OG Asian Market. A favorite treat for me to get at Asian markets are BBQ Pork Buns. There are baked or steamed buns, and at least from Ocean Mart I've decided I prefer the steamed BBQ Pork Buns. While the baked buns were good, the filling flavor tasted different. It kind of had a weird after taste, like the five spice seasoning turned a little bitter or off. I imagine the different cooking options evoke different flavors. The steamed buns feel like they have more substance, feels like there's more dough, and the neutral flavor enhances the filling flavor. At the bakery and meal counter they have some fun and interesting options. You're definitely not going to find Beef with Broccoli and Orange Chicken, which is refreshing. You're definitely going to find more traditional entree items. There's definitely a bit of a funky smell inside, and while the prices are definitely reasonable, I'm not quite sure how clean it is. But they do have a whole isle of Ramen and I had fun grabbing my favorite, as well as some I haven't tried yet. I think with the other Asian Markets standards have increased and I'm not sure if Ocean Mart meets those anymore. But it is really the only option if you don't want to go all the way up to South Salt Lake. But the extra little drive might be worth it. read more

This is my favorite Asian market in the area. They are a good size and pretty much always have whatever I'm looking for (and sometimes I get it in my mind to make some dishes that require pretty obscure ingredients). For example some great things I've found are: curry leaves, lime kaffir leaves, persimmons, purple sweet potatoes, hen of the woods mushrooms, black sugar, chicken feet, matcha and ballerina tea, chickpea flour, powdered pearl, black vinegar, and mirin. They have a huge selection of sweets, spices, tea, great produce, dried herbs, rice (oh, the rice!), and even a few sheet masks and other beauty products (for a lot go to Asian City which is owned by the same people, and just a few miles West of this store). If you have to take a left turn to get here it takes forever, but go anyways, it's worth it! read more

Really convenient Asian specialty store for anyone in the South Jordan/Sandy area! They have most basic ingredients you'd need to make most Asian dishes! They even have a lot of kitchenware that you might want to use as molds, utensils, etc. Prices aren't the best here, but it's pretty good for being a one-stop shop for most dishes you might want to make! Some deals are really good though, such as their 99 cent dozen eggs that I've seen repeatedly. They even have $1.09 tofu, $1.59 whole coconuts, and $3.49/lb pork belly. In terms of meat and produce quality, I wouldn't vouch for it because I have had some disappointing moments with Ocean mart. +1 Star: Prices are pretty good +1 Star: Large variety of ingredients and access to oriental specialties. +1 Star: They have a food court that has fresh crispy pork every weekend! +1 Star: The cashiers have always been nice to me, and every time I've had trouble finding something, there's always a worker to help me out! -1 Star: Not the best Asian market in Utah in my opinion. The store surprised me with various of selections. The store itself was very clean without any bad smells ( much better than those Ranch 99 in CA). Inside Ocean Mart there is a little food place that serves hot food, Boba and smoothies, and pastries. The vegetable lo mein noodles are tasty. They also serve a great vegetable and tofu dish. Remember this place at christmas to buy presents, they have tons of interesting dishes and other pretty things including killer lacquer boxes. When you first walk in you see the roast duck and char siu hanging up for sale and salivation. YUM!!! Ocean has an awesome selection of Chinese sausages to choose from, both with and without MSG and made from chicken, beef, or pork. Bummer they do so little seafood/fish here considering it is such a large part of the Asian diet. Nobody could find the lotus leaves I use to wrap my "8 treasure" dim sum creation. (Global has them) I enjoy this place, but I like the Southeast Supermarket on 9th and the Global Supermarket on State equally as much or even more.....I'll just have to keep looking for the end all-be all ethnic grocery joint to get my kitchen stocked just right. My bias is that I used to shop at the Super H Mart, the Blomingdales of Asian grocery Stores. After shopping there, you get spoiled. read more

Others have done better than I with reviews. I'm not a connoisseur of all ingredients Asian. I like eating the food on trips to Asia, but don't cook much of it at home. They have always had the things I'm looking for. It's one of the few places to get uncured pork belly so I can cure my own bacon. It gets points for that alone. read more

We went to Ocean Mart in search of a Korean Kimchi hot sauce that I won from the guys at Cupbop a while ago. While we weren't able to find a replacement for it, we did find a lot of other great things. Ocean Mart is about the size of a Smiths grocery store. They've got grocery items from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand and more. We walked through the isles and picked up Lotto Moon Pies, some jelly filled jello looking things, spicy peanuts, a Ramune soda drink, some taro wafers, and a few other things. The best part is that their prices are really, really good. I had several things and left paying around $10. Their selection is good as well, they've got a decent fruit and vegetable section, including coconuts for $1. They've got lots of meat, frozen foods, hot sauces, and more. They've also got a bakery where you can get an entire cooked duck for around $20, duck feet, a 2 entree combo for around $8, different types of buns, and more. We picked up a coconut pastry, and 2 pork buns for only a couple dollars. Overall it's an awesome store. We'll come back in the future. Super China Market is a relatively new find for me. I did a search for an Asian supermarket in the area after the one I'd used for some time closed with the difficult economy. I have to say, I now LOVE Super China Market! The members of the staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. In fact, one of the ladies at the check stand always seems to remember something I purchased on a previous visit and asks how I liked my selection. And, talk about a selection... the variety is incredible. I'd like to see a little more Indonesian selections (like Koning's Vogel brand Sambal), but that is just me being a bit too picky. Finally, the prices are excellent! I found that it is less expensive to buy many of my vegetables here instead of my local grocery store! read more
