I personally afraid to order chicken since most restaurants I went to always comes out dry, but the chicken was cooked perfectly. I would definitely come back when I visit Salt Lake City again. To our delight, there was a more traditional seating option to sit on a flat platform with a rug instead of a table and chairs (although that's also an option for people who prefer it). That elevated the entire experience, quite literally...ha! The food was delicious-and the portion sizes were massive. We all got different things and shared with each other so we could try them all. I especially loved the black tea after our meal. It was amazing. I'd come back just for that! Service was hospitable and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and look forward to returning.

They have everything, even banana leaves. Crazy. Love this place. Oh and their hot food is great too.

We went together and she walked me up and down each aisle, introducing me to new items and daydreaming together about how we would prepare them in a meal. Of course, we didn't leave empty-handed! You'll find every imaginable noodle and seaweed snack on the planet and spices and sauces that you didn't know existed. Plus, the dumplings, potstickers and frozen prepared meals! Plan on an hour or so to properly explore the store-or if you know just what you're here for-good on you!

In case you're wondering where the shop is, they're located in the Ivy Place shopping mall, across the way from Sprawl-Mart... These guys are a family owned business, and have been around for more than 20 years. Over time, they expanded from the back corner of Ivy Place. In fact, part of the store is where the old Spoons and Spice location used to be. Tastees has all kinds of Eastern European baked goods, cheeses and meats, imported shelf staples, etc. Nice treats too! The day I stopped by, they had just restocked their Milka chocolates, and there was a broad selection to choose from. There is seating available inside Sam's. I've not tried the food yet but so far I like Sam's. Ocean Mart has a huge inventory of fruits and vegetables that you won't find in your local supermarket and the prices are significantly less than the major retailers. There's a butcher and a seafood section too.

Great Middle Eastern market! How about 4.8 stars?…read more I'm taking off 0.2 stars off of a perfect score only for a nitpick observation that lighting in the store could be better. Lots of authentic middle eastern groceries. Got some Aleppo chili peppers which is not available anywhere. Also got some Turkish yogurt. Got some real lavash, which was actually thin lavash. Great for shwarma and wraps. Got some orange blossom ice cream. Delicious! Tried middle eastern brand of orange soda. Refreshing! I had to exercise self-discipline and not buy some authentic Turkish delights. Will get them the next time. The owner lady was very friendly and helpful. Look for them on the corner of the lower level of an apartment building. Absolutely worth the visit. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Very disappointing experience…read more I stopped in because I'm Middle Eastern myself and was hoping to find a local place where I could regularly shop for Middle Eastern groceries. Instead, I left without buying a thing. The woman working there, who I believe may be the owner, had an incredibly cold and dismissive attitude. Every time I asked her a question, she would stare at me for several seconds with this puzzled, almost irritated expression, as though I had asked something completely unreasonable. Then she'd give me a short answer while already turning away or walking off. I was genuinely confused by the interaction. I couldn't tell whether she was annoyed that I was asking questions, unfamiliar with the customers she was serving, or simply didn't want to be bothered. What made it especially strange was the complete lack of warmth. Middle Eastern hospitality is usually the kind of thing you notice immediately, and this felt like the exact opposite. I wasn't expecting a red carpet or a three-course meal. I was simply trying to introduce myself, ask a few questions, and hopefully become a regular customer. I actually called afterward to explain why I left without purchasing anything. If making customers feel unwelcome is the business strategy, it certainly worked on me. If you're looking for a welcoming, old-world Middle Eastern shopping experience, this isn't it.

They have a good selection of spices, rice, ghee, beans, tahini, and Indian snack food. They have a refrigerated/frozen section with paneer and some meat, and a small amount of beauty products as well. Prices are reasonable, and if you do buy spices they are sold by the bag, so as long as you'll use it all they are a great deal. Most of the time it is the same guy at the cash register who helps me and he is really friendly, but yesterday I visited and there was no one out front, although I could hear people working in the back. A man came out and looked at me, but didn't say anything, and went right back to the stock room. I was actually looking for a specific spice, but ended up leaving empty handed because I couldn't find it (that's another thing, their organization is a bit haphazard, especially when it comes to the spices). This is the first time that's happened, but it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. I have no doubt I'll be back, but most likely I'll check other stores first in the future. Oh, and just a note, it is a small store, and on the weekends it can get packed. There is only one cash register, so if you see a lot of cars in the lot I'd come back, otherwise you might wait 15 or 20 minutes to check out.
