Lovely, elegant setting and delicious food. Very open seating layout which we appreciated very much, having a friend with us with little immunity due to Ca treatment. I love Chile Rellenos ... 40 years ago my family went to a family Owned restaurant with amazing Rellenos... every time we go to a Mexican restaurant I've been searching ever since .... Tacos El Catrin had top notch reviews and was listed in a few lists (including favorite things to do in Warrenton), so I decided to take the family and give it a shot to see if it was worth all the hype. Short answer. YES. Slightly less short answer. Holy schnikes Batman, this is amazing! The menu made it very hard for me to choose my food, as it is a mix of single / small items as well as larger entrees. It also does not follow a typical Mexican restaurant menu, meaning I pored over it for quite some time before I figured out what I wanted. There is also no kid's menu, which meant lots of asked questions for the server before we could decide. They are known for their taco salad, which includes an in-house made shell. It is stuffed full with your choice of meat, fried beans, lettuce, pico, cheese, sour cream, and avocado. 2 were ordered at the table, and I was able to try it. Both the filling and the shell were the real deal and were absolutely delectable. The appetizers were a good size and shareable, so for the smaller kids we got an order of flautas and an order of quesadillas. The quesadillas were a house made flour tortilla stuffed with beans, cheese, lettuce, pico, and guacamole and came with rice and beans on the side. The flautas were 5 rolled up fried tacos with all kinds of goodness and an amazing cream sauce. Both portions were a great size and thoroughly enjoyed by the kids. After much deliberation I decided to start with a tamale. They make everything in house, so I was super stoked to try a tamale (which was filled with pork). The look and smell alone were intoxicating, but one bite pushed me over the edge. This was easily one of the best tamales I have ever had, bar none. Everything from the freshness, to the texture, to the melding of flavors, was absolutely divine. For my entrée I ordered the Asada de Res (which took me 15 minutes to decide...too many things sounded great!). It was Asada steak served with rice and beans, and it also came with grilled onions, guacamole, lettuce, pico, and homemade corn tortillas. I made a few of my own carne asada taco creations and then finished the rest of the food with a fork. The steak was delicious and tender, the beans were exceptional, the corn tortillas were to die for, and the entire plate was simply wonderful. Also of note is that they bring several different types of house made salsa to the table. I tried several, and though I certainly like some more than others, they were all very fresh and delicious. The service was great and very friendly. The food came out fast and fresh, and if you haven't already ascertained, it made my taste buds salsa. Color me shocked to find such a gem on the Oregon coast (and in Warrenton no less!), but this will be a regular dining option for us anytime we head down to Cannon Beach. Do yourself (and your taste buds) a favor and pay Tacos El Catrin a visit. read more

Only the most flavorful Mexican cuisine I've ever had! Not a large menu but an exceedingly well executed array of favorites. The food is not covered with cheesy slop that hides the entrees... Some friends of ours invited us out to this place. I had never been, but I love Mexican food, and tacos are a favorite. Good tacos are hard to find, and these are the best. They offer a variety of fillings, so I sampled them all, and I loved the chicken best. Everything was so good, I went back the next weekend for more! Service is a little slow, as everything is made fresh and with minimal staff. Even the tortilla chips and drinks are made by hand (no premixed margaritas here!), so if you're expecting to bring the family for a quick dinner, this is not your place. Excellent, excellent food. TL;DR: Pubes in the food Came by to get a bunch of to go food for my girlfriend and myself. Service was a bit cold... Stayed and got a beer during the wait. Bored, wandering owner/bartender made no effort for conversation whatsoever. There was no "are you enjoying the beautiful weather?" Or "Boy that's an amazing hot rod you pulled up in, nice day for some take out food." If I ran the least popular Mexican restaurant in town, I would attempt to welcome people and get to know my customers. I would be hustling because I'm here to make money, and in business, making money is about relationships. I know this because I've done this with success. I know what's possible. I know how easy it is to be successful with people. I know what the other Mexican restaurants do to make their customers feel welcome and appreciated - and it never costs them anything more than a pinch of compassion and a moment of their time. All I know is this: This isn't a restaurant who wants to make money. Definitely not mine. I've run restaurants before. I've been a bartender before. You can at least half-ass a sentence of conversation to a first time customer who is paying rather well ($12 - $15 a plate) for takeout. There were 5 people working and not a single other customer in the restaurant. The restaurant looks clean, relatively sterile actually. The noise echoes off the walls. There is no privacy anywhere in the restaurant. I wouldn't want to bring a date here. The dishes were beautiful... But we threw them away because there was literally --pubic hair-- in the first bite. I will never forget the look on my beautiful girlfriends face as she put the fork to her mouth and gasped, pointing to the long curly pubic hair sitting poiniantly on the top of her first bite of food. We were so hungry we almost ate it but I put my foot down. The likelihood of finding a pubic hair on the very top of the first bite from a new restaurant that didn't make you feel welcome is slim, but leads me to think it must have been intentional. How embarrassing for us, them and what a waste of money and food. There are nicer ways to say "white people not welcome." - you could just hang a sign. read more

But a friend and I went here before I had to be at work on Saturday 7/11/20 and it was amazing. The restraunt was very cute and well decorated. The owners are the only ones who work there and they are super friendly. I had to ask him what on the menu I could have because it wasnt very clear for me and he was able to point out a good number of choices. The food here is fantastic. We started off with an ice cold Modelo and tamales - always a good test of a Mexican restaurant for me. It was big, plump, moist and stuffed with delicious pork. It was also plated nicely, showing the cook's pride in the food. Next we had the chicken flautas, chicken tightly rolled into a tortilla and fried crispy, but not greasy. Also played nicely with lettuce, pico and guacamole. It came with 6 flautas we shared. Our final choice was 2 tacos - one chicken & the other steak. Loaded with meat, pico with some nicely sautéed onions on the side, all served up on two corn tortillas, one white and the other blue corn, a nice change-up. The table service was friendly, the beer cold (Mexican and domestic choices by the bottle), the presentation was great and the food both generous and delicious.
