I went to Culinary School and all I can say is Complements to the Chef! When you can send Out Burgers along with prime rib and they are both excellent as well as the appetizers that's saying something!! Although small selection menu it's good tasting food. Everything from tacos to shrimp to good cocktails. Their shrimp albóndigas and shrimp dish off their appetizer menu are delicious!! The wait at the door without acknowledgement should've been a clue. We gave them the benefit of the doubt. Proceeded to the bar after being told of a 15-20 min wait. Bartender and bar back looked at us several times in the literally 15 min we sat there with no menu, no drink order taken without even a nod. FAIL! We actually went next door and ended up having an unbelievable dinner! If your reading this go 500 ft left of this front door! Hubbys salmon was good but the green beans were cold. Had a really good cold taste. I had panko cod. Didn't like it or the sauce served with it. Excellent food and drinks. The fish tacos are awesome. On a recent get away to California I tried to find fish tacos better than this and didn't find anything close to el Capataz fish tacos. The cucumber martini was excellent as well. The goat cheese with marinara sauce was creamy and tart. Wash it down with some red wine and you can't go wrong. Excellent restaurant in Laredo. Came in for dinner, tried to sit at the bar. We were handed a drink menu and never looked at again. Waited at least 15 minutes before we figured they didn't want our service. The only person thattalked to us was the lovely hostess. She at least thanked us for coming in. Luck we went next door to Palenque. Had great service and awesome food! This is some of the best bar food that I have had. Great atmosphere a solid selection of beers and a great food at a reasonable price. While there are a couple of other restaurants that I enjoy in Laredo, this has become my go-to place. The only caveat that it gets crowded on the weekends. I had the prime rib tonight 13oz and it was perfect. I have eaten here but mainly appetizers and they were great also. I was a little hesitant to order the prime rib but I am glad that I did. Food was good, service good. However, it was extremely cold (can you say "lets turnover customers" ) and the chips and salsa was a joke. First off they charged for it. Second - theres 3 of us - the amount of salsa they give you is served in a shot glass. That's it. Have to break the chip to even get any. read more

Ok, I really liked this place when it first opened. They had a great draft selection. Not now. They have no IPA's on draft now but have 4 cider drafts. The food has gone down hill as well. The menu has a great description but disappointment when it arrives. Forget getting a seat at the bar on a weekend, nothing but campers drinking water. Laredo needs more places like this, but unfortunately I will be looking to other places because Laredo gas ruined this place. read more

The restaurant gets 4 stars because their shrimp albondigas are amazing. Their pasta calamari marbella is my husbands favorite and he always orders this dish. I've ordered the corvina vallenciana dish, but I think next time I'll order the calamari dish or make it vegetarian as offered on their menu. I personally like the -Fries "Bien Cargadas"- I strongly recommend them as an appetizer to share with friends or a meal (your choice). One of my favorite restaurants in Laredo. This restaurant offers a sophisticated and modern take on Latin cuisine. The best way to enjoy this restaurant is to attend with a group of friends and order as many appetizers as you desire. All of the appetizers are delicious. My personal favorite is the queso borracho (drunken cheese). The cheese is melted until a toasty crust forms around it. Once melted, they pour what tasted like tequila or some sort of liquor and sprinkle it with parsley. The cheese is accompanied with a side of crusty bread for dipping. The fish tacos are also delicious, Panko breaded fish, cabbage, radish, spicy mayo, and a squeeze of lime. The ceviche is delicious. Don't limit yourself to those two appetizers, taste them all. For entrees I have had the fish and chips which I really enjoy. The homemade tartar sauce is delicious. I would not recommend ordering any of the pasta dishes or the torta. They have a pretty good beer selection constantly updating the beers they serve. The passion fruit frozen margarita is very good as well. I always like to finish off with the cheesecake jar.... I'm not a lover of sweets but this is good. The atmosphere and the decor are really nice, service is excellent as well. I like to come down here every time I visit Laredo. 90/100 read more

I've gone back a few more times in the past couple of months to try new items and have to say that this place is now one of my favorite restaurants. You must try the fish tacos. They have it as an appetizer but there are four tacos to an order so it can be an entree too. The fish is lightly breaded and fried and then cut up in pieces, served in a corn tortilla, and topped with finely shredded cabbage, and what tastes like tiny pieces of pickled red onion and and a creamy chipotle sauce and served with limes. It is so delicious and a very popular item in the menu. I recommend you have that with their mexi-fries. My family has tried and loved the queso borracho and the shrimp albondigas that are served as an appetizer,as well as their torta and hamburger. For dessert, you have to try the cheesecake and the brownie but make sure to request the vanilla bean ice cream with the brownie. It has an incredible cajeta type sauce on the bottom that just melts with the brownie bites. read more

Capataz is a gem in Laredo. It is chic, cool, and has a great selection of beers and food. As someone who searches for chic restaurants with style and class, Capataz fits the bill. Laredo can be lacking in chic dining options, and Capataz fits that and also has pretty good bar food. We had the fish tacos which were delicious and a salad. The salads were not top notch, so might be better to stick to the cooked food. The service was a little slow, and the waiter had to be flagged down for everything. Visited the restaurant for the first time yesterday evening. The restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. The craft beer and top shelf margaritas are outstanding. Food is excellent tasting, and prices are reasonable. Sitting outside in the patio at night is relaxing and comfortable. Our attentive waiter, Alejandro, was amazing as well. The atmosphere, food, and drinks exceed about 90% of other establishments in Laredo, however the waiters are rude and slow. There is only one waiter who is knowledgable about the beers and can also provide good service. Our friends from the east coast liked it.
