Labor Day 2023: I came here after hearing about this place from some colleagues at work…read more My goal was to compare their oysters and seafood cocktail against another place I visited last week. The oysters were good but the presentation was a bit off. They come out in a huge tray of ice which melted kinda quick - if you wait too long to have your oysters, you will be pulling them out of water. Also, the cocktail sauce that came with them was super watered down and messy to pour from the little cups it came in. The shrimp cocktail, though, was beautifully presented and delicious. It was topped with cilantro, red onion, and avocado. I relished every bite. Chips and salsa before the meal were good, too. The chips are dusted with some spicy powder which you can get hooked on, and the salsas were good and spicy. Unfortunately for me, though, I was exposed to Maroon 5, One Republic, and Bruno Mars songs blasting throughout the place. It felt kinda clubby, and not any club I would ever want to be in. All in all, though, not a bad place for seafood. I am definitely coming back after hearing about other entrees to try, especially their grilled octopus.

Even after mentioning it to the waitress nothing was done. The quesadilla was pretty fair, nothing special just chicken and cheese, no spices. The restaurant wasn't busy, we were the only patrons. $50 for a very disappointing meal. Since we were staying at the hotel, we went down for breakfast. Greasy food and the refried beans in my taco were dry and crunchy. The waitress didn't pay attention, I had to ask twice for a coffee refill. We won't be back, I can see why there were no other customers.

Well the truth was we had not left any room number because WE HAD PAID AT THE BAR INCLUDING A GENEROUS TIP! We had to go to the front desk to fix THEIR ERROR (aka the bartender's error) and it was like pulling teeth to get them to admit that it was a whoops on their part. That incident made me knock off one star. It could have been handled better had the bartender admitted we handed him a credit card and he neglected to charge the card. Sad, because the bartender was actually very attentive... oh well.

The manager came off a little rude but then apologized after we stepped out of the restaurant. I would go back if it's a party of 3 or less people. It seems as if they had the food just sitting there until the last plate was ready. 2 of the 10 plates were cold to the touch. Most of our plates were missing items. I ordered the chilaquiles Los del patron with the chipotle sauce, eggs over medium and ribeye. They forgot to give me the eggs but brought them out after I made them aware. The food was definitely on point in flavor. The chilaquiles were stuffed with cheese and I loved it. I ordered a cafe de olla but it was just coffee with cinnamon. They could've told me they didn't serve it there. I then ordered a Paloma. Definitely one of the best I've had in Laredo. Overall the service was mediocre, the quality of the food was okay, and the flavor was on point. I might give it a second chance just because of the chilaquiles and Paloma.

Given the name and aesthetic, it would make more sense to play music inspired by Frida Kahlo's tastes--Mexican folk, mariachi, jazz, or even classical--to enhance the experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They understood English well, even though they primarily spoke Spanish, which wasn't an issue. The menu was written in Spanish but included clear English descriptions, making it easy to navigate. Overall, it's a pleasant spot with potential, but the ambiance could be improved to better match the concept. The huevos rancheros plate was okay, but there were a few disappointing details. The beans tasted like they came straight out of a can and were served in very small portions, along with the potatoes. The potatoes were cut into very large pieces and were under-seasoned, which made them less enjoyable. Overall, it was filling, but with better seasoning and more care in the sides, this dish could be much better.

So everybody had been talking about this is the latest place in Loredo right now. We did have a…read morereservation, which was good cause when we got there, there was a large party for a Monday and the place is really tiny. The inside is whatever there's nothing special about it looks like any other place. Our waiter was so nice. He went above and beyond for us. We started with the escargot and I have to say it was OK. It was a little bland. It definitely was missing more flavor to it and it was weird that it didn't come with bread or anything. We also got the tuetano with beef tartar on top of it. It was a huge disappointment. The bone had not been cooked completely and was very fiber and the beef tartar just tasted really off pudding just like raw meat instead of it bean seasoned and marinated the way it should be. We had to send it back for it to get cooked for the bone and when they brought it back, it was still the same thing so they ended up removing it from our check. After this, I did get a cup of the asparagus soup and I have to say that was really nice. Then I got the American ribeye since they were out of the Argentina ribeye which is a disappointment. I had asked for a medium. It came cooked more than medium and it was weird how light colored it was and it just tasted like a typical steak nothing really special to it. The baked potato was whatever. Now the portobello mushrooms and wine sauce that was really delicious. I don't think I would come back here just cause there was nothing really special about it. Also, I hate to say this, but I did eat a little bit of that beef tartar to try it and I'm assuming that's what upset my stomach cause the next day, I was not well.

Servers are friendly and well dressed, this is a high end spot. Table bread was good, came with chimmichurri and butter, it was good. So good in fact that they asked me if I wanted another bread, and I said of course. What they failed to mention is that they charged $5 for the bread, wasn't expecting that at all. No one advised me of that but alright. We ordered a shrimp with oil dish, cooked in a cast iron, this was outstanding! Great flavor, came with 6 pieces of shrimp and came out on a hot cast iron pan. Highly recommend. I ordered a 15 oz picahna and my wife ordered 12 oz American ribeye. The ribeye was thin, but cooked well. However they failed to season the steak. The picahna was cooked okay, also poorly seasoned. When you think of picahna , you think of the fat cap, tell me why my picahna did not have any fat cap on it? They carved out the fat! I mean cmon man, you're an Argentinian steakhouse and you do that, that is blasphemy. Then they cut my steak, let it bleed out on the plate. Is this their first time or what? Leave the steak whole, like my wife's ribeye. The second saddest steak I've eaten. The worst one was a ribeye I had at Otillias. Steak came with steak fries and they were okay. My wife's baked potato wasn't fully cooked either Overall this place missed the mark and for paying $115 for two people before tip, you're better off grilling your own steaks for a lot less. I paid $40 for the picahna and $39 for my wife's steak. I wanted to give this place 3 stars but that bs bread move left me upset. I honestly think if you're looking for a decent steak, save yourself some money and go to Texas or Longhorns steakhouse.
