EL Campanario is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the valley......not necessarily my most favorite, but certainly a great go-to choice that always satisfies my Mexican cravings, which I get often. I have to say that the service is usually outstanding. The servers seem to work as a team and anticipate your needs quite well......i.e. "Would you like more tortilla chips/water/etc.?" The place is quite large and can easily accomodate large groups of diners. read more

So yummy! We were passing through from Arizona to Orange County. Not too far off the freeway which was definitely a plus. Food was good. Arrived fast, fresh and warm. Friendly service. All the usual things you would expect on the menu and some more. I really enjoyed my sopa and enchilada combo. They let me choose a chicken enchilada though I think the usual is cheese. It's just too much cheese for me. Enchilada was a good size. I was so full and couldn't eat everything on the plate, but got a good amount of variety on the one plate. The inside is like a restaurant but diner style. Table service. Really good fresh brewed ice tea! I've bookmarked them because I would come back when passing through Indio again. Traveling for work and found this hidden gem by pure luck--it's tucked away near a bridge, so keep your eyes open! Service was friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely excellent. The place is spotless, seating is super comfortable, and there's private parking (huge bonus). Loved the background music, and with the bar setup, I wouldn't be surprised if they host live bands on certain nights. Definitely worth a visit! Downside: the men's bathroom only has one stall and one urinal--so it's either a quick pit stop or an awkward game of musical chairs. read more

Amazing authentic Mexican food like huarache azteca and molcajetes. Yes they have tacos and combinations like everybody else, but they also have lots of seafood and several vegitarian dishes. It is family owned with good food and good prices. read more

We came in for lunch after our meeting at work. We don't come out to Indio much so someone recommended this restaurant and we wanted to try them out. Wow! It was pretty empty but the service was amazing and the food was delicious! The restaurant has plenty of seating. The menu is overwhelming and they have everything you can think of. We all loved our food. They serve fresh chips and their salsa is absolutely delicious! I am sad that I live so far away, but I will definitely be stopping by here the next time I'm in Indio. Super busy when we arrived in Father's Day 2025. We got sat right away thankfully a few crowds left right before us. Our party was only four so we got some booths before tables of 8+, they had a wait for the group tables to free up so makes sense to me. The food was good came out fast. I got to Mexico for Mexican food so definitely a noticeable difference yet hits all the same/similar notes. My only complaint was the plastic molcajete it was noticeable cold and odd to had I've never been severe a dish on one of those. Couldn't ask for it more got cause microplastics. I got the trio combo it was good for sure would order again. My family chose this spot and it worked out just fine especially with the huge groups of people waiting. Seems better for smaller groups but there is space for larger groups and the folks here were very helpful read more

I absolutely love the molcajete here! It's packed with incredible flavor and just the right amount of kick to make it exciting without being overwhelming. One of the things I really appreciate is that it's served as a single portion that still leaves a little for leftovers. It's perfect because I can enjoy it all myself without having to convince someone else to share it with me like with those huge typical restaurant servings. My friend suggested we meet here for lunch, and I was greeted warmly and given a table near the door so I could be on lookout for my friend. I enjoyed chatting with the wait staff who checked on me to make sure I had chips, salsa and a drink before my friend arrived. The ambiance was comfortable with cozy, large booths and assorted Mexican decor, including some weird little surprises such as miniature Disney characters randomly placed up on a high shelf. My friend told me that he chose this restaurant because it is one of the top 2 best Mexican restaurants in Indio (and there are a LOT), and because they don't play music so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. I ordered the crunchy shredded beef taco plate and it was just how I like them. I highly recommend El Campanario! read more

On our cross country road trip we made it to Indio on day 1. We thought Mexican would be a safe bet for a late dinner since we're pretty close to the border! I was thrilled to see Birria on the menu, and it was authentic; no beef here, it was goat all the way! And it was super tasty! The consommé was a really nice touch! Even the tortillas maize were better than average. The girls ordered a fajita burrito, which was reported to be delicious; and tacos pescado, which I was told were really good! The service was great! The whole crew works together as a team to make sure everyone has what they need. And the place is super clean, nicely decorated, and well laid out. This place hasn't changed one bit in 10 years. Looks like a rundown Dennys, food was okay. Molcajete was room temperature, almost cold. Molcajete is normally brought out scorching hot in a real Molcajete, not a plastic one. Aguachiles were good had the perfect level of spiciness. Will be back in another 10 years, possibly. read more

My stomach hurt. Everything was so old the ambiance felt like someone died there. The food is advertised as Mexican cuisine, it's a mix of Mexican food and Tex-Mex. I had the shrimp Al mojo de ajo. It was so sour, it was gross. The rice was wayyyy too salty, and the chips were bland beyond belief. The salsa tasted like it was straight from an enchilada sauce can mixed with water. The service was okay, one of the waitress yanked the menu from one of the people in my party. So that kinda bugged me. When it came refilling drinks it wasn't something that none of them liked doing. I was really surprised to find such good Mexican restaurant in this building which looks like it once may have been a Bob's Big Boy or a Coco's. I know better to judge a book by it's cover but the brightly lit interior and generic booths threw me off. My daughter locked in El Capanario for a group of 30 during her lacrosse tournament at the Empire Polo Club. They accommodated us with no issues. All the food and drink were brought out quickly. As far as the food and drinks, the Margaritas were smooth and tasty. I had the combo with a beef taco dorado and chili relleno. All was incredible including the rice and beans. Ambience would put this place over the edge but you'd have a line out the door so in this case, simple is better. read more

Service was horrible. our server came in took our drink order, our entree order and never saw her again. we asked for more chips, she said "yeah" and never got them. at the end I got a refill on my drink from the bus boy. we paid our check at the front desk and left. This is a desert staple - must try! Despite the restaurant always being busy, it never fails to deliver excellent service. My favorite are the mocajetes - pick whichever your heart desires. Another dish I enjoy is the carne asada tampiqueña - sauce is their specialty in my opinion. read more

And don't get me started with never seeing your server ever again after your foods dropped off. Finally got a hold of her, and she just stares at me with this unbothered look after I asked her if the tacos don't normally come with the bare minimum cilantro and onion? I came in with my grandparents for Valentine's Day and I'm so glad we arrived early! Throughout my stay there was a steady stream of patrons coming in and out the doors and for good reason. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and efficient; the food is delicious and fairly priced; and the environment is fun and warm. Three stars only because the food was good. BUT service was horrible. We are Coachella Valley locals and have tried this place a few times in the past. However, the experience we had today was far from pleasant. I made a reservation for 8 for my fathers birthday. As soon as we walk in the door the host looked bothered to even help us. The server, we saw ONCE throughout the whole meal experience. I have worked in F&B for over 15 years and this is unacceptable, she took our order and never came back. We had to ask bussers and other service for water and other extra things we needed. We saw our server but she was clearly in a mood and avoiding us. To top it off we got charged for soda water, never in my 15yrs of F&B have I ever had anyone charge for soda water and was charged as a sprite. The food was good and they brought a chocolate cake for my dad's birthday so three stars for that. Probably not returning to dine in, just take out. read more

Growing up, this used to be the only Mexican restaurant my family and I would go to. My parents know Mexican food and this place would be the only one they wouldn't complain about. I went there recently and was excited with their authentic feel and good food. Bar was very spacious. I ordered a chabela and my sister had a pina colada. Both very tasty!
