Tacos Gonzalez won out as our chosen spot for lunch when doing a cursory search of Mexican food spots in Indio. It's more of a hole in the wall type place with just a few tables, lacking any sort of vibe or ambiance, even though it seemed quite popular with locals. We ordered chips & salsa, 2 chicken tacos, a cheese quesadilla, and a side of fries. Everything was pretty underwhelming and mediocre in taste, with nothing really standing out. While they did the job of filling us up, the food was kind of bland and lacking in flavor. Service was friendly, although we weren't there that long stopping in for a quick lunch. In retrospect, I would have rather spent a little bit more money and gone to a proper sit down Mexican place or just hit up a fast food option rather than eat at Tacos Gonzalez. I would rate them a 2.5 out of 5, but given their decent ratings online, I may have just caught them on an off day. read more

Really cute spot with great service and tasty food. However, at $3 for super small tacos, I'd definitely need to come back and try more before making a final judgment. I ordered a California burrito and an al pastor burrito. I absolutely loved the flavors in the al pastor, it was packed with delicious spices and juicy meat. The California, on the other hand, felt a bit lacking, maybe because the cheese wasn't melted, which affected the overall flavor. It didn't help that the week before, I had an incredible California burrito from a hidden gem, so my expectations were high. The service was very friendly, and the ambiance inside was cute and coooold, definitely a nice place to hang out. Just a heads-up, they charge for chips and extra salsa! Meh read more

I was in the Indio area for a little weekend staycation. While waiting for the crew to arrive, I of course had to try the taco shop near the AirBnB. Walking in, it was a little busy but it was also lunchtime-ish. Nice amount of people inside and coming and going as I waited. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. Taking the order back to the house, everything was good. The carne asada tacos were full of meat with just the right amount of char. The pastor was tasty, and I like the marinade they used. Cabeza was my favorite of the 3 meats ordered. They all come with Onion and Cilantro. Tacos Gonzalez is on my list if I'm in the area again. read more

This is difficult because we have frequented this business over the last seven years. During this time we have seen the quality and the portions deteriorate. They are nice people however you can't keep raising prices while you serve portions that are significantly less and don't taste the same either. Firstly they charge you for chips and salsa! These aren't even good. The chips are stale, unsalted and the salsa is meh. $1.99 for these. Two months ago we ordered three burritos and they were small and bland. My husband likes lengua and not only was it hard to find the lengua but they were bland and unflavorful. The carne asada was greasy and unseasoned. Beans, rice and two tiny pieces of cilantro that is it inside. Almost $40 for three burritos! We decided to try it one more time this week, this time just carne asada tacos. Greasy, small amount of unseasoned meat that was spread out in a single layer to look like full tacos! Chips were thick and stale and the salsa even needs salt! I rarely use extra salt when I go out or even cook at home! Jeez how do you ruin the namesake of your business!! $2.95 a piece for these!! More than anywhere in town and they weren't even close to good. And they served the tacos with "lemon" wedges! Lemon wedges?? Let me guess they have a lemon tree in their yard! Where are the limes? What the heck happened to this place. Used to be good and the portions were adequate. This is not the way to keep your customers. My husband is Mexican and he said that's it I'm not going to go back! We don't mind paying more if it is good but this isn't good. Add to that the older guy coming over as soon as we sat down pushing beer on us and my husband said we don't drink and all of a sudden he sends over another server to take care of us. This was prior to the lunch rush. So disappointed and after the last three times not being very good we won't be back. read more

Was hanging out in Indio with some friends and this really hit the spot for takeout for a bigger group. They have an expansive menu not limited to just tacos. Carnitas in the California burrito were the CRISPY bits!!! So yummy and ample portions to eat for 2 meals or 1 meal and 1 snack. Overall would def recommend if you're in Indio! We've been coming here for years since we moved to the valley and I can't believe I haven't left my own review. These are the most authentic tacos in the valley and we know tacos as we come from the San Fernando valley and I'm half Mexican. The taco size is perfect (taco truck size), the meat is tasty, tortillas always fresh. Nachos, green salsa, even the beans are so good. But it's the consistency for me. Sad they take a month off in the summer but totally get it. We moved to the other side of the Coachella valley but still make the trip just for this place. You won't be disappointed. read more

And it was perfectly prepared. Heck, I even finished the broth. Very clean tasting. The lengua was a bit over cooked and a bit dry, but I won't count this against them. This is a tricky neat to cook. Service was impeccable. Listen, service is key number one to the success of restaurants. And they mastered this. The location is a typical small Mexican / Taco stand. Clean and tidy.
