Stopped at this little place and it was really good! The salsa was a little hot for our taste buds but it was tasty! We ordered queso and it was good too! The steak fajitas were some of the best my husband has ever eaten. Extra special with homemade tortillas. I had the shrimp tacos and they were delicious! We live in Louisiana, so we are very picky about our food. When you are in Texas you expected to eat Mexican food but Mexican food is kind of the same everywhere. Not until you eat at El Bracero. We had early lunch or late breakfast at the place, it was lightly packed but still a good crowd for a restaurant that opened 30 minutes ago I don't even know how to describe food because it's prepared just right and it does taste fresher than anything else I have ever had. This place is outstanding! Talk about a diamond in the rough. You drive up to this place and think "There's no way" but if you know good food, you know appearance means nothing and more often than not, they are misleading. Once inside, the place is really humble, small and cozy. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming but then... There's the food. This sort of thing always baffles me, but some how little places like this have absolutely the best food world wide. I got the "Plato De Cozumel" which are seafood enchiladas with a whole seared fish on top of them, and topped with a "tropical sauce." I don't recall what kind of fish it was, I would guess maybe flounder? But it was prepared in a way that just sends your taste buds straight to heaven. I actually began laughing with a mouth full of food in amazement of how good it was. This is true, traditional, gourmet, 5 star Mexican CUISINE (food doesn't describe it right.) This review was written during the COVID-19 pandemic. Place was very authentic, a little mom and pop hole in the wall, with humble furnishings, the homey neighborhood restaurant shows it's heart and soul through its food. You can taste the love, the customer service essentially wasn't the greatest, but far from the worst, every employee we came in contact with was very polite, sweet, and welcoming. A bit of a communication barrier, but personally a great time, this little place is as real as it gets. Delicious, will look forward to coming back. read more

Driving through the city on a cross country trip and found this place. The decor is basic to say the least but that's not why you go here. The service was very fast and efficient but not particularly friendly. We both got the Sonora plate and were both very happy with everything. The chips were okay and the two salsas were each really good and flavorful. We are moving to Alabama from California and know our days of good Mexican food are numbered so we really appreciated this one. read more

Driving through Amarillo on our way to NM and we asked Siri take us to the best restaurant in Amarillo and it brought us to the "El Bracero" and it was wonderful! The place doesn't look like much from the outside and the inside is pretty dive like but the food is where they will get you! My wife and I loved the food! We will definitely stop here every time we go through Amarillo. The food had a great flavor and tasted very fresh. The service was also good, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The other really nice thing about El Bracero is that it seemed like pretty authentic Mexican food. We live in New Mexico and New Mexican food is great and all but there are few authentic Mexican Restaurants in NM so this was a great treat. Wish it was closer! read more

Perfect meal. I was looking for a quick bite and hungry for Mexican. I walked in and looked no further than the special posted on the whiteboard as I entered. Seafood soup! This bowl was huge and loaded with seafood and had a delicious tomato based spicy broth. Plenty of soup for a dinner, but you can always eat more those endless salsa and chips. Enjoy! read more

I chose El Bracaro after reading good reviews on Yelp and I must say that I agree with the totally positive ones. We went during the evening and the place was very warmly lit up and inviting. Being a small restaurant on the outside it was very large with several unexpected seating areas which are very beautifully decorated with area specific historical as well as popular culture items. A very cool set up that gives a warm feeling. Very fast and gracious service was brought by our waitress Marta and when she was busy the other lady there took up the service. My partner ordered the Enchilada plate and I ordered the Talapia and Shrimp plate. Both were outstanding but just know that when they ask you if you can take the spice is they do mean hot! I made my leftovers into Caldo or soup the next morning and the soup needed no other heat than what was originally in the plate. A great hangover cure for sure. I was very impressed by the whole experience and I give this restaurant a 5 star rating and I'll definitely return as many times that I can before I run away from Amarillo up to my favorite city of Denver. The only thing I will regret about leaving Amarillo is that Denver does not seem to know what Mexican food is supposed to be like. You will only find that in Texas or Mexico. How unfortunate for the rest of the country and I have been almost everywhere being a lifestyle RV person. I urge you to try El Bracaro and see for yourself. read more

We chose chicken fajitas, enchilada plates & the daily special based on reviews and were not disappointed! Chicken fajitas were seasoned well & tender with plenty of onions & peppers, rice, beans & all the fixings. We also had one cheese enchilada plate with chili con carne sauce and a chicken enchilada plate with sour cream sauce. Both were excellent! Finally, 2 of our kids shared the daily special (today was the brisket plate!), and it was enough to fill both kiddos!!! It came with tortillas, rice & beans.
