Decided to try somewhere new for lunch that I had never been. When I first walked in, there was a lady who appeared to work there talking to some other ladies seated at a table. She did not greet me or smile even though we made direct eye contact. As it turned out later, she does work there but is not a waitress. I had never been there before and since there was no Host to greet you, I did not know if it was a Seat Yourself place or Wait to Be Seated Place. There was no sign so I sat at an empty table and no one came to greet me or ask if I would like anything to drink or eat. The place was about half full and I finally asked someone at another table and they said you just go order up at the counter and then they will bring you food and drinks. A little disappointing so far but the food that was coming out both smelled and looked delicious. Everything changed once I walked up to the counter as the gentleman who took my order was very friendly and helpful with all the questions I had about the food. I ordered a Beef Swharma which came in a Wrap with salad and some potatoes. It was absolutely fantastic. The price was reasonable and the waiters who brought the food out were very nice. My only suggestion would be that they either put up a "Seat Yourself" sign or a sign saying to proceed to the counter to place your order. I will certainly go eat there again. read more

LOCATION/AMBIANCE: El Basha is on Pacific, located in a strip mall next to an Avis. It looks really small on the outside, but the restuarant in deep and there was plenty of seating (maybe about 15 tables). It looked very clean on the inside; the menu print is a little small, and has a Mediterranean-style font. SERVICE: Walking in, I was a bit confused on if I seated myself, or if I needed to wait for a hostess. I could see a lady standing behind the counter in the back, and another lady in front of the counter (couldn't tell if she was a customer or employee). But as soon as this lady moved, there was a sign that said "Order here"; probably not the best place for that sign. The girl behind the counter disappeared into the kitchen, and I waited a couple minutes for her to come back out. She took my order, and gave me a number to take to my table. She also gave me a cup to fill up with my drink of choice at the soda machine. There is a counter with utensils by the drinks. FOOD: I ordered the falafel sandwich combo (comes with drink and fries). It took about 10 minutes for them to make my meal, and it was pretty fresh. The fries were nice and crispy, and the wrap was okay. The falafel was good, and I liked the fresh veggies, but I have had more flavorful falafel before. VERDICT: Wasn't mindblowing, but I would like to go back and try their schwarmas. read more

My beef shawarma wrap was pretty flavorful and my parents seem to enjoy their chicken shawarmas as well. The hummus was really good but the pita bread was a little thin for my taste. All in all the food was really good. We were here on a Sat. night and the place was busy. Today would have been my late beloved husband's 59th birthday so I decided to honor his memory by celebrating his birthday at his favorite lunch spot, El Basha. It brought back many happy memories of several meals shared here together throughout our marriage. Today I ordered his favorite sandwich, which is excellent, the Felafel Wrap along with a side of fries. The wrap is cut in half and should satisfy a good appetite. It consists of pita bread that is stuffed with 4 good sized balls of Felafel wrapped with tomatoes, green onions lettuce and their famous pickles; topped with a generous serving of heavenly Tahini sauce that is all tightly folded together. Amazingly the wrap is pretty easy to eat. One half of the sandwich filled me up. The fries were nice and thick and cooked perfectly where they were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I went with my family on a Friday afternoon. The place is cozy and nice. Tables were clean. They have a good menu with choice of sandwich or platter option. I was looking at their side orders and hummus wasn't listed. I mean all Arabic restaurants offer that on the side. I saw it on small mezze plates menu instead. I got the beef shawarma platter and it came with the option of salad or soup on side. I decided to go with salad. The food was great though the beef seemed a bit dry. It came with rice which was good. I wished they added more tahini or garlic based sauce on the beef to make it moist. I also ordered the Baba ganoush which came with pita bread. OMA-GOOD Lebanese food in Omaha? I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes. I wish I lived in Omaha, so I could eat here every day because we totally loved it. You might be wondering the origins of the name. El Basha was used in the ealry 1900's to describe the elite society during the Turkish & Ottoman empires. Having the title "Basha" indicated a certain degree of social class and wisdom. So if you're eating here, you are really smart. We arrived just before noon and the restaurant had a nice crowd already. The outdoor patio and the inside of the restaurant were half full. We went to the main counter to place our order. We got a salad, soup, chicken shawarma sandwich, chicken kabobs, rice, kefta sandwich and fries. We were about to have a feast. We were given our table number and we went out to the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. The patio was really relaxing. It was like a hidden oasis. There were beautiful plants and a great painting on the wall that made me feel like I was eating on the waterfront near an ancient fort. The patio was also a mix of shade and sun. We were lucky enough to find both. They even had fans mounted on the outside wall to circulate the air. We truly enjoyed the patio. Our food was being made fresh and it arrived at different times which we were fine with. My wife loved her El Basha salad with romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, onion, tossed with their special garlic-herb & mint dressing. She told me that it was one of the best salads she has ever had. Next arrived the house made curry lentil soup which was really delicious. Our little one loves soup and can eat it at any time of the year no matter what the weather is like. We were lucky enough to get a spoon to sample but then we were cut off. Next arrived the chicken kabob and rice. I wasn't a fan of the rice. I felt like there was too much saffron but the girls loved it. I must say that the chicken kabob was one of the best kabobs I've ever had. Most chicken kabobs are dried out but the chicken here was moist and tender. I was really surprised at how incredible it was. We also got two wraps. The chicken shawarma was really good. I loved every single bite of the sandwich. The pickles were sliced long and thin and provided the perfect crunch with every bite. They also had their famous El Basha garlic dressing in the wrap too. Famous? How come I'm just learning about this now? I'm going to call it the legendary El Basha garlic dressing. I honestly could enjoy this wrap every day. We also got the kefta wrap. I've had this wrap at other restaurants and the one here has spoiled me forever. Typically a restaurant puts one kefta in the middle and the bite ratio is terrible but not here. The kefta is chopped up and spread through out the wrap. I got meat in every single bite. I was so happy. If you've never had kefta then I highly recommend it. Kefta is a seasoned ground beef that is grilled on a skewer. You can order it just like that but if you order a wrap then it comes in the flat bread with tomato, pickles, parsley, onions and finally drizzled with tahini sauce. I'm drooling about this as I type. The guy delivering our food was also really nice. He checked on us to see how we were doing and we expressed at how happy we were with the food. He told us that he loves working there because the food is so good. He made it seem like his happiness is tied to the meal he eats here every day. I can totally understand why he has a permanent smile on his face. This place is simply amazing. When we come back to Omaha we are coming back here to eat again. The service was great and the food was out of this world. I love that I can find authentic Lebanese food in Omaha. It is great that our world can share its culture and food everywhere. This is a great out of the way place with the best Mediterranean food in town. Baba Ganouj, $6.99, and you get a lot of it with pita bread. Greek Salad $8.50 with a great Greek dressing, chicken shawarma wrap 7.50 very good but not as good as the hummus wrap $6.99. The hummus wrap has a lot more veggies which are delicious grilled veggies (instead of grilled chicken, right). We ordered the lamb special since no one has lamb on their menu anymore. They asked how we wanted it cooked- meaning, its real lamb, medium rare, thanks for asking. $18 Total bill was $48 bucks. And I tipped $10 since we were picking up an order- carry out only right now. El Basha is small in size but big on flavor. It's a Lebanese/ Middle Eastern restaurant that has a popular following, no doubt because the food is so darn delicious. The interior is attractive, though cozy. A pretty good sized outdoor dining area makes eating here much quicker when the weather is nice. There is ample parking in the shared lot out front of this small strip mall. Order at the counter and the food will be delivered to your table. The soft drinks are self serve. Everything I've ever eaten here is out and out delicious. Their rice simply cannot be beat. I wish I knew their secret. It is neither clumpy nor dried out, and it is full of flavor. The gyros and shish-k-bobs are all wonderful. I am a shrimp fan, and the shrimp platters are wonderful. The menu is rather extensive, and there are options to fit every hunger level. MY wife said it was good, but get there early so we did. About 5:45 on a Friday evening. There are maybe12-15 tables in the whole place, so its very small. They were not even half full when we arrived. The dining room was small of course, and not too cramped, but it was alright. I service was pretty slow I thought for them not being to busy and 2 couple who ordered after us got their stuff before us. We had a party of 3 (me, wife and daughter). Personally I thought this just to be another normal - not better than avg - greek place. I really wanted to like it, but it was just fair to me. I know other places I'd rather go to than here. Local Lebanese joint for great value. Ordered shawarma chicken platter that came with a side salad, side of mashed potatoes, and beverage Salad was fresh and well dressed with lime dressing. Potatoes were lightly seasoned and light - feeling healthy too. Chicken shawarma was wrapped nicely, however chicken was extremely dry - as if the chicken had sat out for the entire day, drying out on the grill. The food here is amazing & affordable. For $7 I got way more food than I could eat in one sitting (& my leftovers were just as savory as when it was freshly prepared). As a vegetarian, I was relieved & impressed to find multiple meat-free choices for me to choose from. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but even when they got a rush & all the tables were taken it didn't feel congested or uncomfortable. There is outdoor seating if the weather is nice & the turnover for seated patrons was pretty quick, so no one had to wait long for a table. The strip mall that it's located in is in the heart of town, making it an easy choice if you're in the area. That being said, the parking lot was kind of frustrating & it can be a little difficult getting back out onto Pacific when exiting. All in all, I highly recommend El Basha. The salad with gyro meat is also great. Sometimes I rotate in the Mezza plate, it is one of my favorites. The food is hands down the best i have had in my recent and somewhat short endearment for Mediterranean cuisine. And if the food was the only criteria then I would have happily given them a 4+. But the place clearly lacks good service. When I enter a restaurant I am accustomed to be received and placing order with the orderly. However, which clearly wasn't the case here. I have seen this with other middle eastern restaurants but they usually receive u and take your order once you are seated. Anyway, after placing the order at the check counter, I expected my drink first followed by the meal. Which went the other way around. My husband had to get up in between his meal to remind the guy at the check counter, who seemed bewildered by our inquiry. I had a great time here at this restaurant. At first it was a little confusing since they don't really have anyone at the front when you walk in. I noticed a group of people standing near the back of the restaurant at what seemed to be a counter, so I walked up. This location you actually order your food and then sit down, would be nice to have someone explaining that. The decor, while a little old, was fun and had a real charm of it's own. It was definitely cramped inside the building, and I would have much rather sat outside but they were busy busy. But beyond that, it was great. The food was quick, it was packed with great ingredients, it tasted wonderful! The lentil soup was definitely write home worthy. If I am ever back in town on business (or pleasure) I will for sure hit this place up again. read more

They have a great patio and I like to sit outside whenever the weather is nice enough. They also have hookahs. I like to get the falafel appetizer: 5 falafel pieces on a lettuce bed with pickles and tomatoes & the mixed grill platter: grilled chicken, gyro, kabob with rice and salad- sauce on the side (add a side of chili paste) also comes with a drink and lentil soup* or extra salad. I like their food, however today I stopped by at 7:25 and they said they stop serving at 7:30. Before this I tried to call, but they take the phone off the hook at times, so I could not get through. I have seen them do it before. Yelp, their website and Google all have them open until 8:00. Then when I told them I got there before the closing time, they said nope, no food. I told them I tried to call at 7:10 for 5 minutes and said that is to bad, we were busy. Long story short, good food. Bad service. I will think again before going there. read more
