I had a Happy Plate, which was not dry as compared to other places and my husband had some tacos which were filled with a good amount of meat. Restaurant was really clean. Had a fine Mexican lunch at this restaraunt today. Not a large place, as it sits in a small strip of building. Thee staff was very courteous and friendly, and the chips and salsa were spot on. Fresh cilantro made for a very flavorful and aromatic mild salsa, and the thin tortillas were fresh. The food is very reasonably priced, and I sampled a chicken enchilada, beef burrito, and a crunchy taco. I had the refried beans and for a change also the French fries as my two accompanying sides. The food tasted great, and I love to dip fries in the refried beans. The beans were good and surprisingly so were the French fries. All in all this was a very reasonably priced tex mex restaraunt, that did not disappont. read more

Delicious food and large portions for a great price. My family and I decided to come in for dinner after smelling how good El Azteca smelled from the outside and we were not disappointed! The waiters were also very kind and I loved the Latino music they played in the background. It provided the perfect atmosphere. This is our go-to spot in Monroe for amazing Mexican food. Every visit has been spot on, and the food is always fresh and cooked perfectly. The staff is always very friendly and professional, and we definitely have not had any bad experiences here. If you don't want to dine in, you can always order online directly from their website, and pick it up at the drive thru window on the side of the building. This was our first time to try this place and we really enjoyed it. It was better reviewed than the other Mexican restaurants in this area so that's why we tried it. It was further off the interstate but if you don't mind the extra miles, it'll be worth it. They have a large menu and you could tell that everything was made from scratch and not from frozen. I liked how you can pick and choose what you want with the extensive al la carte menu. If we are in the area, you will definitely see us again. Food was fantastic! I ate here with my family last Sunday. Service was poor, and 3 of our 4 plates came out wrong but the food was definitely good enough to go back and try again. Racists. This place served us black bean dip. We're African Americans. No other table had this dip. We were the only Blacks in the venue. Also played R&B line dancing music loudly over the traditional Mexican music. Reported this to the corporate office. Followed up too and never heard back so I guess it's OK with them. read more

I really loved eating at El Azteca previously. Their fajita chicken nachos were great, hot chips were plentiful, salsa was good. I ate there several times and would highly recommend it. However, in the last few months, it has changed. The portion sizes became smaller and white cheese in dishes became a garnish instead of an ingredient. The last time I ate there, the salsa was extremely sharp....like it had an overabundance of vinegar in it. Our waitress was also not as helpful as they were there in the past. She did not explain that there were upcharges on things we were offered like they were house options and was demanding about cleaning off our table (as in hand me your plate now) despite the fact that the restaurant was sparsely populated. The ambiance was also off. The waitstaff was hovering at the front door ready to tackle new arrivals, there was no music playing for most of the stay, and there was no bustle of serving enthusiasm in general. It will be a long time before I feel like eating there again, particularly when there are other options that have yet to disappoint me. read more

First time I went I loved it. Every other time I went it was ok. Last (ever) time I went, the service was unacceptable. I ordered the combo plate, with a quesadilla and an enchilada. The menu said queso on top of everything was $2 extra. I didn't want that. When I ordered, the waiter was clearly impatient. "Do you want red or white sauce on the enchilada?" I only manage a "Uh" before he cuts me off "RED or WHITE?" "Uh, white?" He rushed off. Soon after, a table of 6 small children was seated directly next to us in the near-empty restaurant. Food wasn't bad. We ordered a drink that was good. Got the bill, I got charged the $2 for having what he had called "white sauce" one ONE of my items. Also charged $3 extra for the drink. When we politely pointed these things out, he got snippy with us. He went off, spent a good while talking to who I assume was the manager, then came back and said the drink price was reduced back to what the menu said. Just the drink. I do not eat Mexican food often and when I do, I always eat here. Today, as I was eating my food, I opened the salsa given to me and there was mold in it. I was very upset by this, it spoiled my appetite! The El Azteca quesadilla I was eating was very good, however, I could not finish after the putrid salsa. I contacted the restaurant and they were very swift with my full refund and apologetic for my inconvenience. The manager explained that they rotate them and check them all, but they must have forgotten to do this one. I do understand that it is a convenience to them to already have the salsa cups prepared, however, if the salsa was poured fresh, this would not be a problem. The food here is really good and I will eat here again one day. But I will make sure that the salsa is fresh next time! read more

This is the 2nd time I've visited here. The first time I got sick after eating there, not sure why. This time the service sucked!! It took forever for the waitress to take our order, didn't come back to check on drink refills. Another waitress came by and asked did we need refills and brought them and slammed them on the table. Food: My order was chicken, shrimp, bellpeppers, onions over rice with cheese sauce. The bell peppers and onions were so over cooked and burnt until they were unrecognizable. The shrimp wasn't good at all. My boyfriend's order was enchalida...he wouldn't tell me how he felt about them but the fact that he didn't eat it all and was still hungry after paying $30 for our meals said alot. Dined here again a few days ago. The dish that sits up on a wood stand served in a large mortar was new to me and absolutely delicious! Starts with the letters Molc----, but mi no abla espanol. Service, appearance, quality, again at the top of the scale. I also tried the owners other place on 18th Street the previous week, Avocado's, and it was unique in a splendid different way as well.
