There are diners and then there are DINERS. PT's Eat-A-Bite is nothing much to look at, but Man the food is good. It's so good I ate there 4 times in three days. Parking is at a premium along Jefferson Ave, but there is always the courthouse parking lot across the street. You can use the walk up wi doe if you ordered ahead or you don't want to sit inside. There is a small bar with stools. Several booths and a half dozen tables or so. The menu is not super huge. But breakfast is wonderful, cooked to order and filling. The lunch menu rotated along with several items that are available every day. A meat and three veggies along with a drink is less than $10. Let me tell you, the meatloaf is wonderful, the pork chops are quite tasty and the hamburgers are great. Look, it isn't fine dining. But if you want good food, fast and cheap, this is the place for you. The owner and his son in law were heading a crew of happy and pleasant cooks and wait staff. They will treat you right. Great lunch. It was my first time here and it has been open 60 years. Staff was a little cold but good food.

I ordered a grill chicken salad from PT's Eat-A-Bite. It was the worse grill chicken salad I have ever had, in my life. First, the chicken was cold and not grilled nor seasoned; good thing I carry seasoning in my car. Second, the lettuce was bag lettuce, not fresh chop lettuce. Third, I was not expecting cheese to be on the salad, because everyone did not eat cheese for health reasons. Fourth, there was so much cheese it took me 10 minutes to remove all the small pieces. Fifth, I really wanted to throw the salad away, but I didn't want to waste my hard earned money. Six, I did not enjoy this salad at all. Seven, Sam's Southern Eatery grill chicken salad is far better. Eight, I had intentions on trying other foods in the future, but I will pass. I waited 55 minutes for pancakes, eggs, sausage, and oil-soaked hash browns. I watched the clock. There were babies screaming behind me the whole time. In that time, our coffee got refilled once. They have two regular sized coffee pots (not restaurant size) so when one is being divided up, the other one is brewing. Obviously with a full restaurant of people who have been waiting an hour for food, that means a long wait for coffee. We really should have left when, at 10am, this all day breakfast cafe was out of grits. In the end, the food was just okay and not better than McDonald's. The worst part in all of this is that there was never an apology or explanation for the wait! My dad once said that he likes eating inside this place because growing up, Black people could only be served through the window. I say eating here is not a victory and I could have cooked him breakfast AND lunch in the amount of time it took. read more

This is a divey little diner right on the courthouse square...got about 5 tables and 6 booths with 4-5 stools at the counter... It's been years since I stopped in before 4/29/13 nothing much has really changed...they run plate lunch specials every day of the week plus a pretty large Sandwich/Burger offering....just good ol' down home country cooking!! Today I went with the Open faced cheeseburger and damn it was good...its a patty on each bun with melted cheese and smothered in gravy! Holy Hell I wanted to lick the plate and the seasoned fries on the side were mighty fine.... Our waitress was friendly & on the ball and she suggested my meal and her suggestion was right on!! Great home style cooking... True soul food. The restaurant is very small and is usually pretty packed with people. Though that one Downfall, the speedy service, friendly employees, made to order, hot food, And the fair prices for the amounts of food you are getting definitely trump that. read more

I've been going to PTs since i was a kid. I'm 22 now and couldn't pick another place in bastrop to eat. Burgers are great. Lunch menus are different everyday and amazing. If you want the best experience you have to try the breakfast. Their pancakes are great. It's all home cooked food that feels like it's cooked with love. read more

When I was growing up here this place was called Pippen's. And actually I think some of us still call it that. But PT's is still the best lil' diner around. Decor and interior is classic diner-style, no frills. It's right on the square across from the courthouse and it's old-school at its finest. They are known for classic meat and three type meals but my favorite here has always been the cheeseburgers and fries. Ground beef is nice and fresh and you know it's gonna be good when they pull that beef from between two pieces of wax paper and smash it on the grill. Buns are soft and fresh, hot off the grill. You can get large or x-large burgers. Large is plenty big enough. You can get the fries regular or Cajun-style seasoning. Both are styles delish, piping hot and not too salty. Love going here for a quick and affordable breakfast and/or lunch! The western omelette is great for breakfast and for lunch we love all of the lunch specials! PT's is a very small little diner in Bastrop, La. The food is always good and the service is good also. This place has a good breakfast and a very busy hungry lunch crowd. We come here often and normally there are no problems. Tonight they obviously had new waitresses. Our waitress got my husband's order wrong. Both waitresses were busy sitting and talking with a customer at the back table instead of focusing on their jobs. They let a man sit for 15 minutes and not be waited on. He finally had to call over the manager to take his order. The service was terrible. I think those waitresses should not have a job tomorrow. read more

Awesome everytime! Great southern, homestyle cooking! Beverly & her staff make you feel like you are sitting down for dinner or supper. Not to mention that the place is spotless everytime.
