First time coming here the other day. I always pass by and finally had the chance to stop in. This place is so pretty. I love the patio and how bright/vibrant the paint color is. The inside of the restaurant is pretty. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty quiet, only a few people there. Our waiter was nice and fast. The food and drinks were great. Everything tasted really fresh to me. My drink was really good too. We ordered a Tito's Rita, sweet tea, Fajitas Pollo, Fajitas Carne, and got the Veracruz Special grilled fish to go. It's situated right on peachtree which has the perfect spot for sight seeing. The food was presented beautiful and I ate my entire meal. This was a pretty interesting, but overall average experience in the sense that my drinks were really good and the queso was also really good but my entrée was a bit disappointing and I felt like the service could've been a little better. I got a margarita and it tasted really good and I got a nice buzz from it so no complaints there because I enjoyed my drink. The queso was also really tasty as well....I definitely enjoyed it for sure. However, I felt like the server didn't come around as often as I would like. The queso took forever to come out and ended up coming out after our entrée, which is not what I wanted. Ambience wise I would say it was just OK. It is really big and decently decorated, but there was really nothing special about the ambience. Overall I wouldn't mind coming back here again for the drinks and queso but my entree was not as expected. I ordered the "super burrito" and I feel like that name was misleading because I just felt like it wasn't as big or filling as I would've expected at all and if I didn't get chips and queso I probably would've still been hungry after eating it so my entree was definitely disappointing. read more

Came here with coworkers for a birthday celebration. I arrived a little before 4:30pm and maybe I missed it but there didn't seem to be any happy hour specials, which was surprising. Or is there were, it wasn't mentioned. At the time I arrived it was pretty sparse but as it got later the restaurant did fill up. I ordered their Jamaica (hibiscus) margarita with the sugar tajin rim, but it didn't really seem to have much alcohol in it which was disappointing. There were 4 of us and we were given complementary chips and our own salsas. Service at the beginning was really solid from one of the women who was working at the bar but when we moved tables our new server was mostly MIA. As for the food it was OK, fairly standard Tex-Mex fare. I had the chicken chimichanga which was decent. It did get fairly busy after about 6pm but there is lots of seating both in and outside making this a pretty good space to bring a large group. read more

Stopped by here Saturday evening for some good authentic Mexican food after attending an event at the Fox Theater. The food was delicious, i ordered salmon tacos, with rice and beans! My niece ordered shrimp tacos with rice and beans! We also ordered peach and guava frozen marges, so good! Maria was our server, she provided exceptional service even it took a few minutes for a server to appear. The ambiance was nice, not too crowded! I used to love the old El Azteca on Piedmont Road, both the food and service. I've only been to this location once about 10 years ago and it was fine from what I recall. I went to the Dunwoody location last year and it was quite good. This south Buckhead location was absolutely terrible. Ridiculously terrible. I ordered a combination with a taco and enchiladas. Marishka the server was very slow and inattentive. It was almost comical. My food took half an hour to come out and was cold when it arrived, probably because it was sitting for a long time before it was picked up. The chicken in both the enchiladas and taco had absolutely no seasoning, so I doused it all in salsa to make it edible. I asked for extra salsa twice and it took another 15 minutes for that to happen, and I couldn't eat this bland mess without the salsa, so I waited. I drank all my water while waiting for the salsa and Marishka never bothered to fill it back up. Marishka never came and checked on us and we were done eating for half an hour waiting for her so we could get the check. She finally came back to the patio and I had to wave at her from across the patio to get her attention. It took her another 10 minutes to bring the check, then 20 more minutes to run our credit cards. I thought I would never get out of that place. I've never experienced such bad and slow service at a Mexican restaurant, and the food wasn't even worth waiting for. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

El Azteca!! This IS the original El Azteca that we all know and love. They have been around Atlanta for over 35 years that I can recall. My first experience was in Buckhead at the little old building on Roswell Rd. During the fun days of Buckhead we hit the Piedmont Rd location every weekend. Now 35 years later I found the Midtown location to be just as good or better than my memory serves. Midtown location is easy access from the expressway. El Azteca is such a gem of a Mexican restaurant in Buckhead. They have a great food menu and a great drink menu as well. The menus for both have so many options, so you are bound to find something you love to eat and drink as well. I come here quite often with some friends after work as well as coming on the weekends too. They have a large outdoor seating area as well as your pretty standard indoor seating. They have booths and tables as well as bar seating inside the restaurant. I always get the chicken fajitas to eat when I come here. It's a huge sizzling plate, and comes with so much. I always end up eating the whole thing because it's just that good. Highly recommend El Azteca when you're in the mood for some laid-back Mexican food with some friends or even by yourself, you won't be disappointed. read more

Have had the opportunity to eat here many times and all have been very good. Last night I had the pollo ala parrilla which was served with a vast amount of veggies with 2 tender chicken breast slices in a light sauce. The flavor was very good. El Azteca has a cool vibe with both outdoor in inside seating. We selected outside last night as the temp was around 75 degrees with a nice breeze. As a caveat when seating outside there can be some traffic noise due to the proximity to Peachtree St. In closing, our server was attentive and provided very good service with not being to on top of us but making sure we had what we needed. This use to be a favorite spot, but the employees who made the experience have left. The female bartenders are on their phones A LOT, and unfortunately don't do many tricks when making drinks (like the other bartenders did). The food is always delicious and drinks are strong, but do wish the employees interacted with the guests more at the bar... It's a part of the experience (or at least it was). Put the phones away, and maybe play a more classical variety of music overhead; not just the chick music or teeny-bopper music. Keep coming back to this place! They have one of my favorite frozen strawberry margaritas in the city of Atlanta. They have a small free parking lot in the back, and if that is full you can park next door and they validate your ticket for 2 hours. The free chips and salsa are delicious. I always get tacos! I don't even know where to begin with this review tbh El Azteca is one of my favorite spots in the city to get completely shit faced on giant margaritas and other ideally frozen drinks that are served in oversized mugs. The food is also incredible (ideally after swashing down 2-3 or those jumbo drinks mentioned earlier). It definitely fills a specific niche in the "budget" peachtree road / lower buckhead dining scene. Deducting one star for the general customer service. If you're not in a hurry this will fulfill your dirtiest needs. Just watch out for the bathrooms. You may get an auditory experience that's beyond comprehension. read more

I'm not sure why restaurants do that, it makes it that I don't have the option to order a Coke or opt out of water and the water always just takes up room on my table.
