Found a new family spot. The good was great. We went back 2 times immediately afterwards.

-tiny

We had a blast and believe we have found our "regular spot" to go get Mexican!! We loved the service and the food was delicious! The margs hit the spot for the sunny day and we have definitely gotten food from here as a pick up, so it was nice to have a sit down this time! The special touch that made me feel great as a mom was that they brought out my baby's beans first.. so that way I could feed her before our food came! That meant mama got to enjoy margs and enchilada while Baby hung out.

*decor was very low lit & pretty- fine dining aesthetic but there was so dress code & they were singing happy birthday at certain points. *service was good. Host was very professional. Had a little difficulty communicating at some points w server but we figured it out (wanted to make sure no nuts were in dish due to allergy). *food was fine/good. We need the opportunity to try more than just appetizers. This time we stopped for drinks and a few bar snacks. We ordered two small fried dishes and would like to come back to try a healthier & more elevated option! *cocktails were presented very beautifully (we got the flight that had mango, coconut, passionfruit and strawberry). Definitely on the sweeter side but so tasty! *bar looked small from around the corner but then realized it extended to the hallway that leads to the restroom. It has ample seating. We enjoyed our experience and want to come try what else this place has to offer! Such a lovely location situated close to our new area!

From "soup to nuts" - the service, the ambiance, and the location (close to me - less than 4 miles), are perfection! The meals are authentic - tasty, served in copious amounts (GREAT portions), and I love their Margaritas! The menu is hefty, and my goal is to have EVERYTHING they offer - a serious bucket list item, people. Not joking! One of my absolute favorite foods is Chile Relleno.I fell in love with this dish when I lived in Los Angeles - it was authentic and so delicious! And for over 40 years, I was in search of the BEST in the US. I found it here in Maryland! Surprisingly, it's not an entree. It's a side dish!!!! I am begging the powers that be to please elevate this perfectly cooked and extremely satisfying staple (a delicacy for me) to the main menu, with the customary beans & rice, and maybe pair it with a choice of tacos (corn or flour tortilla)! I've ordered this as an "all sides" meal just to get that beautiful experience I had way back in Los Angeles, many moons ago! El Aguila never disappoints! We've had the enchilada combos and the fajitas - 10 out of 10! So many more dishes to taste, so little time! My husband, friends and I enjoy this restaurant immensely! I'm so glad they're nearby!

Cute neighborhood spot. Very lovely and busy. Service is super prompt and diligent. Good was satisfactory. I enjoyed their Lomo Saltado and my friend tried their Chimichanga. Their drinks were really good (and strong (extra stars)). I tried the spicy/jalapeño margarita, and my friend got their regular margarita. Their chips and salsa were bland for me. It's definitely a nice place for celebrations but also enjoyable for regular outing.

Found this place last month and it was a pleasant surprise! I love their customer service, drinks (STRONG), and fajitas! The ambiance is nice and price point is decent.

We tried: Gorditas, 5/5-it's reminiscent of Indian potato patties aka aloo tikki but with corn textures and undertones. Savory Waffles, 5/5-even if you've had chicken and waffles, this one is like an illusion item, you expect certain flavors and textures but encounter something entirely different in a good way. Papas con rajas taco, 5/5-the salsa macha elevates the fried potatoes and poblanos. Drunken mushroom taco, 4/5-dont get me wrong, its a great taco but you get something similar at Taco Bamba, Mi Vida and so on and by this point we were expecting unusual flavors and perfection from Cielo Rojo. Nopales taco, 5/5-by far the best, most delicate and fresh nopales we've had in the area, not slimy. Que Carajo cocktail should move to the brunch cocktail menu for good reason. Licor 43, cold brew, and carajillo are a win win at that time of the day. Tres Leches is another 6/5, a winner with that delightfully slight after taste or maybe fragrance of rose. We wanted to try the Flautas which had the can be made vegetarian/vegan symbol against it but were told that was a mistake and the dish couldn't be made without duck. Not sure if this is true only during brunch since some reviewers do mention the dinner menu having more vegan/vegetarian options. In either case, we'd love to return for brunch and try the dinner menu. These guys have something special on their hands.

Just because it's free doesn't mean it has to be v8 with some onions and cilantro mixed in. Definitely a miss. Black bean burrito: get that hot sauce, you are gonna need it solely for flavor. The ranchera sauce s is tasted suspiciously like ole El Paso enchilada sauce from tin. A miss for me on its own, passable if you add the hot sauce. Chicken tacos: "good". Not great. Tortillas not warmed up properly. That hot sauce they give you comes in super useful just to get some flavor because on its own it just isn't doing much. He ate them all but that was hunger more than enjoyment. Again a miss without the sauce. Mango and strawberry mojito: actually good! Nice flavor, not too much sugary mix. A hit! Something to note: They have this roving band of musicians that go around to tables and play music. Instruments and all. If that's your thing then maybe that's a reason to stop by for a drink but if it's not for you then at least you are aware. Nothing I would come back for. 3/5 but more like 2.5/5.

While folks at my table went with Tex-Mex options, I decided to go with a Salvadorian option. In particular, I went with the Sopa de Marisocos, which was served with fish, a whole crab, mussels, shrimps, clams, and eggs. I thought the 20 dollar price tag as pretty fair considering how much seafood was in the bowl of soup. Although I thought the soup should have come with rice, I did not realize that the soup was served with tortillas. I guess the tortillas were the rice substitute. Overall, I thought the soup was very delicious and seasoned very well. I'm glad that I followed the waitress' advice and went with the addition of cream to the soup because it elevated the soup's flavor. Besides the soup, I had my fair share of margaritas. I thought the margaritas were mixed well because they were not too sweet or acidic for me. Also, the restaurant has happy hour most days until 6 pm (or was it 7 pm?). I have to say that I must visit again, because there are a lot of things on the menu that I would like to try during my next visitS. Overall, I thought the service was impeccable. Our bartender, who later became our waitress, was very helpful in making recommendations and suggestions regarding the menu. Also, she was very patient because it took us a while to finally order food - although we did order plenty of margaritas while deciding on what to eat. The restaurant is a decent size with both indoor and outdoor seating. From the way the tables are arranged, El Gavilan looks like it is very accommodating for medium sized groups. The restaurant does have parking; however, the parking lot is a bit tight.

The plantains were reduced to a thick paste, overcooked to the consistency of baby food and lacking in any flavour. The chimichanga was not browned at all. It looked like a burrito, but the tortilla was simply dry. Not fried. Dried. Inside, there was little but shredded chicken -- dry and bland. It was served with white rice (?!?!) And a dollop of sour cream -- no salsa, no gauc, nothing. Tex Mex for people who don't like spices, flavour, or taste.
