    Steak quesadilla
    Jacob F.

Fast service, was sat immediately. My server greeted me immediately. Not too loud, a lot of seating as well. Steak quesadillas had a good cheese pull, great amount of steak, the tortilla was crispy (I hate soggy quesadillas, and there was a fair amount of guac and jalapeños on the side. The strawberry lemonade tasted fresh, tasty but not too sweet, and the mango margarita was great. Chips could use some salt, but the salsa was good. Hats Off

    Steak and shrimp dinner.

The 16oz ribeye steak was juicy and SO well seasoned!! The grilled shrimp were yummy, nothing special about the guac but the tortillas were really, really good. I'm talking the perfect fluff level and tastiness good. I didn't try the rice or beans... was too full from everything else. Also got a special grand margarita, it was delicious! Excellent, attentive service. Large fans on the outside patio helped blow away the summer humidity. An 18% tip is included in the check.

This location has been here for decades and is a neighborhood favorite! Very cozy place with inside and covered outside patio seating. They have more seating downstairs, but the ambiance is not as nice. Paid parking in the streets or the public garage at the end of the street. My friends like to meet up here for birthdays especially and tell bring out a sombrero and vanilla ice cream with candles and sing to you. Service is excellent! Tex-Mex food with large portions. I usually get fajitas and they come sizzling on a hot plate with fresh flour tortillas that are made by the machine near the entrance. The food is good, nothing special, but we usually come for the free chips and salsa! The tortilla chips are very thinly made and come out warm. Food is probably a 3, ambiance a 2.5, but service a 5!

    Cheers to margaritas

We stopped by Mi Rancho because our other dinner plans fell through. First of all, I was quite pleased and surprised by the MASSIVE outdoor space. I knew Mi Rancho had an outdoor area, but I didn't know it was so large. Thus, this is restaurant is good for larger parties. While the outdoor area is huge, the noise can be a bit loud. Service was so-so. On one hand, our server were very nice and cheerful. However, I thought the service to be a bit slow. In Mi Rancho's defense, I think the restaurant was short-staffed during our visit because I did not see too many servers for the large space. In cases like these, I would highly recommend ordering your drinks and food at the same time instead of ordering drinks, then ordering food once the drinks arrive. The food (like the service) was so-so. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't amazing. I had the beef enchiladas, and I thought they were pretty bland. Although my dish was kind of bland, the restaurant does provide a generous amount of food so you will not leave hungry. Overall, I thought Mi Rancho was a decent spot that's great for large groups in a low-key, chill environment.

Chicken quesadilla, Don't judge me but I definitely used refried beans as my additional sauce. Solid choice

Great service, great food, great hospitality, went there as a prequel birthday dinner before we want to beat the bomb in DC. Didn't get the more delectable food in fear of it coming out during beat the bomb. But the ambiance was very nice, You can tell by the culture around that the food was going to taste excellent.

The ambiance is more of a small restaurant. Now I went in for breakfast so it might be better for dinner but it didn't feel uniquely special. The service was fast, never had an issue finding a waiter or having my water glass empty. The food was decent. For the price though I would expect better quality of food. There are better Mexican places in the area that offer better quality food for better prices.

A fun restaurant to go to with a parking garage right down the block! Yummy fajitas!! Enjoyed the jalapeño poppers too! The chips are salsa were a hit too, with some spice! Margarita was tasty too! Not too sweet. Sorry I guess I drank it too quickly to take a pic Would definitely come back. :)

Great spot for a Saturday night. We were warmly greeted by a staff and set almost immediately. There were a lot of families and friends celebrating birthdays. Nice of the staff to celebrate them with a sombrero and a song. The food came out hot and delicious. The $15 beef enchilada plate was delicious. The drinks were good. I do plan on coming back.

We were sat right away and I was surprised at how big the restaurant is (way bigger than it looks from the outside!). I started with a hibiscus margarita, which was delicious. Then we ordered a few things to split, including: guac and tostadas, charred cabbage, gorditas with chorizo, aguachile negro, and the beef short rib platter. The charred cabbage was the biggest sleeper hit. It was so flavorful and unlike anything I've ever had before. Everything else was delicious, although the aguachile was probably my least favorite of what we tried. We finished with the rose water tres leches and the dulce de leche crepes. The tres leches were pretty good but the crepes were amazing. I don't usually love dulce de leche, but it was definitely a standout.

If you are planning to visit during popular dining hours, it might be worth it to make a reservation. We arrived during a weekend around 5:30 pm, and the place was somewhat empty. However, by 6-6:15 pm, the place was PACKED. I was a very surprised (in a good way) that the menu was a bit smaller compared to other Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants in the area. I necessarily do not think the smaller menu is a bad thing because, with a smaller menu, a restaurant can focus on preparing everything well (i.e., it's easier to do a good job with 20-item menu versus a 50+-item menu). For my dining pleasure, I went with the enchiladas suizas with a few margaritas. Overall, I thought my plate was very delicious; however, other diners at my table and I noticed that the portion sizes were a bit small for the price. Perhaps, the restaurant uses higher quality ingredients for its dishes. Although the margarita sizes might appear to be small, they definitely are not "small" in power/punch, so the $13-$18 price range is appropriate. My favorite margarita of the night definitely was the El Jardinero, which was a wonderful mix of carrot, cilantro, peach, lime and a semi-spicy pepper of sorts. Collectively, we all thought the service was exceptional because our waitress constantly visited the table. Personally, I thought it was a bit overkill, but that's a very, very minor complaint based on my very, very personal preference.

Just because it's free doesn't mean it has to be v8 with some onions and cilantro mixed in. Definitely a miss. Black bean burrito: get that hot sauce, you are gonna need it solely for flavor. The ranchera sauce s is tasted suspiciously like ole El Paso enchilada sauce from tin. A miss for me on its own, passable if you add the hot sauce. Chicken tacos: "good". Not great. Tortillas not warmed up properly. That hot sauce they give you comes in super useful just to get some flavor because on its own it just isn't doing much. He ate them all but that was hunger more than enjoyment. Again a miss without the sauce. Mango and strawberry mojito: actually good! Nice flavor, not too much sugary mix. A hit! Something to note: They have this roving band of musicians that go around to tables and play music. Instruments and all. If that's your thing then maybe that's a reason to stop by for a drink but if it's not for you then at least you are aware. Nothing I would come back for. 3/5 but more like 2.5/5.

We had a big group of 20-30 people and they set tables together that sat 20-22, then we had more tables nearby as more came. There was only 3 baskets of chips and salsa for the table of 20+ and by the time I got there, none was left and I was told they asked for water and more chips several times for the past 30 mins (there was maybe one or two other couples at the restaurant besides our party, so not busy). We never got more chips although we asked at least 3 times since I arrived. Drinks had no prices shown and they don't serve tap water, only bottled (still or sparkling). The large margaritas are gigantic (glass was as tall as the 16oz bottle of water) and we ordered pitchers of margaritas, but again no prices given, so we got a surprise when the bill came. As for the food, portions were big and everything smelled great. Flavors were average to good for Tex-Mex food, nothing special. Everything was plated nicely. I got the Lomo Saltado and asked for medium rare, but it was beyond well done, so very dry. The plates are huge and very heavy and the waitress dropped one behind my friend and her shirt and purse got all splattered on! Leather purses get stained with oils! They didn't offer her anything until she and a few of us kept asking (not even a discount on her food or a drink!). At the very end after we all paid and started dancing, they kept her waiting at the table to see what the manager will do while we were dancing. While folks at my table went with Tex-Mex options, I decided to go with a Salvadorian option. In particular, I went with the Sopa de Marisocos, which was served with fish, a whole crab, mussels, shrimps, clams, and eggs. I thought the 20 dollar price tag as pretty fair considering how much seafood was in the bowl of soup. Although I thought the soup should have come with rice, I did not realize that the soup was served with tortillas. I guess the tortillas were the rice substitute. Overall, I thought the soup was very delicious and seasoned very well. I'm glad that I followed the waitress' advice and went with the addition of cream to the soup because it elevated the soup's flavor. Besides the soup, I had my fair share of margaritas. I thought the margaritas were mixed well because they were not too sweet or acidic for me. Also, the restaurant has happy hour most days until 6 pm (or was it 7 pm?). I have to say that I must visit again, because there are a lot of things on the menu that I would like to try during my next visitS. Overall, I thought the service was impeccable. Our bartender, who later became our waitress, was very helpful in making recommendations and suggestions regarding the menu. Also, she was very patient because it took us a while to finally order food - although we did order plenty of margaritas while deciding on what to eat. The restaurant is a decent size with both indoor and outdoor seating. From the way the tables are arranged, El Gavilan looks like it is very accommodating for medium sized groups.
