Nice patio in downtown Silver Spring. Spacious to accommodate larger groups. Fish tacos were ok. My mom enjoyed her beef and chicken enchiladas. Free chips and salsa. Margaritas were pretty. My favorite Tex-mex place in the area for many years. The flour tortillas are magical. The fajitas and pina coladas are my go-tos. The staff, managers, and kitchen know what they're doing - it was very popular for cinco de mayo and although there was a wait, it went by quickly (less than ten minutes) and the service was polite and efficient. I finally had a chance to dine at Mi Rancho after hearing about it for years. This review is late but we visited on a weekend in mid April. We helped my daughter move from one apartment complex to another in downtown Silver Spring and had worked up quite the appetite. There was a short wait but the place was packed. When the server brought more chips, we knew it may take awhile for the food to arrive but when it did, it was worth the wait. I ordered the carne asada and it was prepared perfectly. Our office came here for lunch on 11/19/19. It was crowded for a Tuesday, but we were able to obtain a table for 7 without reservations. The waiter wanted us to order right away. A co-worker accidentally spilled a cup of water on the table, but no one came by to help and provide more napkins although the hostess helped mop the floor. It took 20-25 minutes for our entrees. I ordered the taco salad with ground beef for $10.95. It was an adequate size, but not too much beef in the salad. We requested and obtained separate checks, but it took 15-20 minutes to pay. Every time I go to this place with my husband the waitresses are all weird around him and stare. Like we walked inside and they were all staring and not even asking how many.. just staring .. like what? Tonight we had probably the weirdest waitress I have ever had. We ordered Nacho's steak only and she came out with beef and chicken. We didn't ask for that, what we did ask for was a mix beef and chicken quesadilla. She acted like she didn't do anything wrong. She also didn't seem to know a lot of English. The food was disgusting. I ate two bites of my enchilada and then pushed the plate away because it was so gross. She asked me if I wanted a box.. bruh. I was like "No thanks it wasn't good at all I would like to return it." She got mad. But she still charged us. Like take it off... the whole vibe of this place is weird and I hate it. I love this location. I have very little issue with the staff- the managers are friendly, the hostess is quick, the servers are great... the food? Not so much. Let me start with their drinks: - any of the flavored frozen margs are straight up syrup. Yuck. I actually got a maraschino cherry in my strawberry frozen- it was NOT GOOD. - if you ask to top shelf your marg, and PAY for it... they're still watery and meak - I'm not sure what happened- they used to be some of my favs... but now they're just totally sub-par. Okay the food: - GO GET THE OFF MENU WHOLE RED SNAPPER- soooooo good. Although you can't count on them having them - everything else is mediocre. it's just not great - I DO Love their chips- they're light and crispy - the queso, which is usually my fav app is literally just plain yellow cheese. There are no peppers or onions or spices or anything in there! no fun. - if you like spicy, ask for their special house made hotsauce- only the locals know about it! They are a good place to go for larger groups, and during covid they had a great set up because they have a large indoor/outdoor heated patio. Mi Rancho is a perfectly acceptable neighborhood Mexican place. Between the outdoor area, inside seating, and covered patio, it's easy to get a table even when it's busy. Expect standard Americanized Mexican fare. Nothing too fancy here, but that's not what this place is about. It's great to go with some friends and family, have a couple of margaritas, and eat some relatively forgettable tacos. I'd be crushed to lose it though, it's better than your average Mexican place. Was really disappointed with my meal. I ordered the fish tacos, and they came out dry, with barely any flavor/seasoning, and a small amount of fish. It costed almost $20 too -- so expensive for low quality food in my opinion. The service was a bit slow as it took a long time for the checks to come out as well. My husband and I enjoyed dinner here this evening. We shared a pitcher of margaritas which was pretty good but they could have been just a little stronger, we also had the Plato Grande Platter. I loved the steak and the ribs. The steak was so tender and the ribs fell right off the bone. The chicken was a little dry for my liking but flavorful. The shrimp was very fresh and did not taste fishy at all which is a plus for me. I really like the inclosed patio as today was a nice day to dine outdoors. Our food came out really fast and our waiter was nice. My only issue was I ordered cheesecake to go and for whatever reason it took them like 25 minutes to get it & I'm sure all they had to do was slice it. I called several times and left a message to make a reservation for a larger party, but no one contacted me back. I finally reached someone days later (after nearly giving up) and they took my name and number, as well as number of guests, and confirmed we were set for a specific date and time. Upon arriving with the guests the reservation was nowhere to be found. They were able to accommodate us and our server was very attentive and helpful. The food was a bit bland and lacked spices, but was pretty tasty overall. It was a bit expensive. Salsa was delish. Spicy salsa was super spicy - be warned! Parking was a bit of a hassle, but there are 2 garages nearby. Outdoor seating is available. Margaritas were very sweet and seemed to be low alcohol. Overall it didn't stand out too much, so I wouldn't go out of the way to come back. read more

This restaurant specializes in Spanish food. I had the raspberry margarita and it was delicious, lightly sweet & not bitter. My main was the carne asada a la parrilla cook to well done and let me say that the meat was so juicy and tender it was like cutting through butter with each slice. Our waiter was very helpful and was able to split the check for our party of 9. The only con was that there wasn't much parking space for the restaurant and be careful not to park next door because that area belong to a restaurant called tasty which will tow your car. There is a parking garage that is a 3 minute walk from the restaurant and parking is 1 dollar per hour. All in all, had a great time and wouldn't mind coming back here again. read more

Second visit to this restaurant in the last 2 years. First after pandemic re-opening... Arrived at around 6:40 PM on a Tuesday evening. My parents, my gf and I sat down out in the patio since it was a pleasant evening. We first got some complimentary chips & salsa and then our drink orders: a Corona, Margarita, a Mojito, and a Strawberry Lemonade. Then we got some Beef and Chicken Fajitas as entrees along with freshly made Flour Tortillas. Food tasted delicious! We all enjoyed eating our entrees... As for dessert, we shared a couple of Fried Ice Creams, which could have been better. Like, the crispy parts should have been more fried and warmer to complement the ice cream. My most favorite meal to order is the chicken Fajitas platter or chicken quesadilla . It's enough food for two people when ordering a platter. When I went last Weekend I ordered beef tacos for the first time (my husband can no longer eat chicken) and I was not disappointed. Of course it come with pico de Gallo, sour cream , and guac. Now on to the drinks.....If you haven't been I would TOTALLY recommend the Coronarita , it's $16. 95 but totally worth it in my eyes. Perfectly balanced I always get sugar rim regardless of my drink it's always strong and will get you right for the night. Any of the margaritas are really good too! I would try a few during happy hour for margaritas tasting :p (more reasonable pricing) Like always I have to comment on the customer service. I've been enough times to tell you that I have not been happy with their service however the last time I went I was MORE than satisfied . I've been eating here for 30+ years and it tastes the same then as it does now. Their dry rub ribs is of my all time favorite things to eat. The fajitas come pretty well stocked with meat (I always get chicken/steak) and plenty of sides. I do order cheese on the side, I wish it came standard. They have a new spicier sauce that really improved the overall flavor of my soft tacos. They are very consistent with their food and you always know that it will taste good. They are not innovating or adding new dishes that I am aware of, but they continue to be busy most nights. They have been a Silver Spring institution and I do not see that changing anytime soon. It's been so long since we came but we've been going here for like 2 yrs. The outside space was fully open and very well ventilated. The service was crazy fast. The food was delicious. But... the dishes we got were noticeably smaller in quantity and higher in price. Was the fajita dish awesome? Absolutely. Was it work $42? No. The prices there feel like the have close to doubled on many of the things we love over the last few years. I hadn't eaten there in years so while visiting the area I ordered takeout: a steak and shrimp fajita for myself and a chicken enchilada for a friend. The friend loved his enchilada. However, the steak on the fajita was VERY chewy so I couldn't enjoy it as much. I'm not much of a red meat eater but I do answer when it calls! For instance, I answered a call for the garlic steak burrito at Chipotle 3 months prior and It was very tasty and tender. Not only that but the steak at Chipotle is free from chemical alterations, antibiotics, and added hormones. I don't know what type of meat I ate at Mi Rancho other than chewy. I lived near Mi Rancho for 8 years, and I always loved the smell of the beef fajitas on the plancha, which you can smell almost whenever you walk by the restaurant. They also taste phenomenally good, eaten with fresh-made tortillas from the tortilla machine in the front of the house. The ribs are also good, and there's some creditable Tex-Mex on the rest of the menu, but the beef fajitas are the star for me. They're doing a brisk COVID business with outdoor dining and takeout. I've been getting takeout and it's easy and tasty. Last time I was there, my order was wrong, probably mostly due to my poor communication on the phone. So I eat here about once a month and am honestly surprised that I haven't reviewed it before. The food is about as Mexican as I am - which is to say, "not at all." BUT...it's still good food. I have argued, and continue to argue, that the chicken quesadilla at Mi Rancho (Silver Spring) is one of the best in the DMV. The balance of grilled, seasoned chicken, cheese, and toasted tortilla is awesome. If you're in for something that is reliably excellent, order that. I have a ton of friends who order the Cancun Platter and rave about it. I'm not a tamale person so I can't give you any first hand guidance on that one. Ate here, food was alright. However, my wife and I felt sick soon after. I wasn't asking for a discounted check or anything, just wanted to warn them. He tells me food doesn't react that quickly, but if I'm convinced it's the food, to goto the hospital, and he'll pay for my bill. Not the response I was looking for (what if we were too sick to drive?). He might be correct that food doesn't react that quickly, but he was very defensive. Decent lunch here at a Mexican place not far from Silver Spring Metro station. Outside seating looked nice but it was too hot so we had our lunch inside. Chips were thin and crispy, not too salty. Always love coming to mi rancho, not one thing I've tried that I did not like. Since we are no longer allowed to dine in I thought I would try food to go from mi rancho but it was not the way to go. I got the Plato grande for 2 and the one for 1 and the serving portion terrible. Usually when you eat there the serve so much food, this was not the case.
