So I eat here about once a month and am honestly surprised that I haven't reviewed it before. The food is about as Mexican as I am - which is to say, "not at all." BUT...it's still good food. I have argued, and continue to argue, that the chicken quesadilla at Mi Rancho (Silver Spring) is one of the best in the DMV. The balance of grilled, seasoned chicken, cheese, and toasted tortilla is awesome. If you're in for something that is reliably excellent, order that. I have a ton of friends who order the Cancun Platter and rave about it. I'm not a tamale person so I can't give you any first hand guidance on that one. I'm betting their margaritas are equally excellent, but since I go here for work lunches I have yet to try one. read more

Always love coming to mi rancho, not one thing I've tried that I did not like. Since we are no longer allowed to dine in I thought I would try food to go from mi rancho but it was not the way to go. I got the Plato grande for 2 and the one for 1 and the serving portion terrible. Usually when you eat there the serve so much food, this was not the case. Food here is decent. I got the chicken tacos and I can say it filled me up, but I can't say it was the best tacos I have ever had. The chicken was kind of dry and tough. Also, I wish there was more seasoning or flavor in my tacos. Maybe I should have asked for some hot sauce? Everything here is just mediocre. Always saw this place, finally dined here and it was just awful! Met a date here for dinner and drinks and don't think either of us will be returning. At about 7 p.m., it was quite packed so we both thought that must be a good sign. Honestly, the open feel with the cool breeze is about the only "good" thing I can say about this place. We tried the mango margaritas - I did on the rocks and he opted for a frozen drink (it was more water than frozen actually). My drink tasted very watered down. I never really had a bad tasting margarita until yesterday...took awhile to decide on food, but since our original plan was to get tacos, we chose tacos (I got chicken and he got the fish). The wait was long - at least 35 minutes had gone by since we placed our orders, then we decided to inquire about the status. About 10 minutes later, we finally got our tacos. After all that wait, they better be bomb!!! Um...nah! Not even close...the chicken itself was disgusting and the other stuff not any better. I really enjoy this casual Mexican spot in the neighborhood. When I'm walking towards Mi Rancho, something about the colored string lights on the periphery makes me very excited. Inside feels warm and cozy and very communal. The homey vibes bring out the good mood. Since the place is large, there's always a lot of people and it seems like every other table is celebrating a birthday so it's fun to watch families celebrating. There's a lot of space both indoors and outdoors and it's always the right temperature. You can also watch sports on the giant screen in the tent area while sipping on a beer or one of their awesome margaritas. I really enjoy the margaritas here. They make it perfect-especially the classic mi rancho margarita. It's smooth and strong enough and catches up to you quickly. They give free chips and salsa with all meals as well-even liquid ones and it tastes great. The chips come out nice and warm too which is always a bonus. The food is average at best, but the portion is large which is why I give it three stars, although I'd rather give it a 3.5 rating. I haven't had anything on the menu that I thought was really amazing but the experience and margaritas make up for it. I ordered a veggie burrito and it came with a side of sour cream and salad. The burrito itself wasn't very flavorful and had a lot of cheese but again it was sufficient because I enjoyed the paired margarita and watching football on the big screen. With enough margaritas, you're bound to finish your meal though. The guacamole is pretty good if you just want drinks and snacks. Overall I like having mi rancho in the neighborhood because it's a casual, comforting restaurant where you can sit back with a pitcher of margarita and relax while watching the game. read more

First time here: ordered the taquitos & split a pitcher of strawberry margs..amazing and I was blown away at how big the portion was, especially for being an appetizer! The chips and salsa were incredible too! Second time, takeout: ordered a delicious to go marg (lime and ice included in separate cup), the most delicious tamales (also huge!) I would definitely recommend Mi Rancho - my ONLY complaint is that their alcoholic drinks aren't listed anywhere, not on their print out menu or online so hopefully they can update that. I saw some people with orange drinks that looked yummy but my waiter told us to look online and we couldn't find them.. The food itself merited 3 stars for my preference but the service was so good I had to give them 4 stars. This place is unsuspecting from the outside but inside the environment is quite nice and well decorated. The service is great as I mentioned, they replaced our salsa and refilled our waters promptly and the waiter was very helpful. I ordered the chicken quesadilla. It was a rather plain quesadilla. I don't feel like the chicken was seasoned well and there wasn't much to the quesadilla itself. Just chicken, light cheese, and the tortilla. Not the usual Tex mex style I'm accustomed to. Came here after an event with friends as an "after party". Was suggested to get the quesadillas as it was our friend's favorite - so my friend and I split a Large Chicken Quesadilla. It was yummy and came hot full with cheese and chicken and a side of pico de gallo, guac, sour cream, and jalapeños. We were both full afterward. Everyone at our table was happy with the food, drinks and service. Be warned, it can be loud, but that's because it's such a social place. As Texas transplants it's not close. Tortillas and salsa are good. We had the flameado queso w/ veggies, taco salad, crispy tacos, the Alfredo plate, and house margaritas. Queso was okay but the veggies needed more sautée. Tacos weren't seasoned. Taco salad shell was stale but the fajita beef inside was good. The Alfredo plate had a decent chicken enchilada but the tamale was dry and the relleno was not great. I prefer a relleno with meat but cheese was the only option. It also was covered in cheese. So much cheese. Margaritas needed a floater so order the double. We may go again but will try other options first. read more

Went out with some family and had a wonderful time. The staff where friendly and very attentive. We ate outside and it was a lovely atmosphere with plenty of air circulation. We ordered a little bit of everything and it was all so good. The portions where large and the flavor was good. They hand make their tortillas just inside the door where you can watch if you want. The kids love watching. The Flameado de Queso is sooo good. It's a cheese dip that comes with tortillas and could almost be a meal in itself. But if you want a delicious appetizer and you like cheese, you will love this no question. Also, we had the half pitcher of mango margarita, it was delicious. Honestly the food is good here, Although my girlfriend feels the food isn't as good as it was in the past, I still think it's still decent. Normally I'll have the shrimp fajitas which may I say is delicious but this time around I had the Filet of Flounder, with 2 grilled shrimps. The Filet of Flounder is served with rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and tortilla. With all the sides you can either eat it all at once on the fried skillet plate or as a fajita with the wrap. The Flounder was tasty, and full of flavor. My only complaint is that they never remove the shell from the shrimp. It's a but of a nuisance bitting into shrimp and it still having the shell piece on it. With my entree I had the Mango Margarita. I joined a group of friends for dinner at Mi Rancho on a Tuesday evening. We entered through a large outdoor/covered patio area -- it was huge. This area would be great for happy hour when the weather is warmer. We were seated immediately, as the restaurant was only about half full, and served chips and salsa. The salsa was a bit thin for my liking and I wish the chips were warmer. Nevertheless, the combo was tasty and we quickly devoured the first round. We each ordered a half pitcher of margarita for ourselves -- what a brilliant decision this was! For $15 each, we each got a half pitcher of margs which equated to 4-5 glasses. They have all sorts of flavors -- they were all delicious and had a good strength to them. My entree was DELICIOUS. I got the tempana plater which came with 3 jumbo split shrimp, grilled chicken, steak with a side of rice and black beans. All of the meat was still sizzling on the platter as it was brought out to me. It smelled great and tasted even better. With the tortillas, I made small fajitas filled with meat, grilled onions, and pico de gallo. I was full but I finished the whole plate....man that entree was GOOD! The chips were warm and crunchy (some of the best that I've ever had) but I wished that the salsa was a bit thicker and spicier. For my meal, I got the fajitas, with a mix of chicken and beef. It also came with rice and beans on the side. The fajitas were tasty and very filling, so I had to take some of my meal home. I would recommend getting the fajitas as an entree. However, it would have been nice to have sour cream in addition to guacamole available as one of the fajita toppings. I would have liked to try the dessert but I was too full from my meal. Was looking for a fajita spot with spicy margaritas for Cinco de Mayo an Mi Rancho checked the boxes. There was about a 30 minute wait due to the celebration but it was worth the wait. Once we were seated at our table (they offer indoor and outdoor seating and outdoor is either tent or patio) in the tent our waitress was present within minutes. We started with a spicy margarita and pina colada...both were great along with the guacamole and chips. AMAZING! The guacamole was so fresh. Apparently, we had the best seats in the house...there was a live mariachi band that played tableside throughout the evening. Had to ask for water but when the waiter was around giving water they must of just skipped my table that was in the middle of everyone that was receiving water. So this place has a beautiful outdoor deck, which is what attracted us to it. We only came for drinks so this review is not about the food (maybe its great). I give it 3 stars because the server was extremely slow and we were one of literally 3 parties on the whole deck. At the end of the night when we asked for our check, we literally had to walk up to the cash register to reconcile our bill because she never came back after giving it to us. Also, the drinks were a lot weak. I had the Mi Ranchero margarita an hubby had the Banana margarita, both never even gave us a buzz. I was told that the margarita I got was more on the "stronger" side, which is why I was surprised to discover that "stronger" actually meant "terribly weak-and-flat-and-its-basically-juice." Yesterday was my birthday so I wanted some good Margaritas and some carne asada. we got there (2 of us) and got sat right away but we waited a long time for someone to come. The server comes, asks what we want to drink and I asked the flavor of the margaritas- she tells me two of them, says she will get a menu, toss is it on the table and walks away when I'm mid sentence and just never came back. she walked around to other tables but not ours. I got the manager's attention and he said to me in a dismissive voice "yea yea they coming" and he got some guy to take our orders. he did- we eat (Which quality has gone down hill terribly) and when we got the check it still had the lady's name on it, so I told the manager I didn't want her to have the tip and he kind of argued with me. I also asked if the Margarita pitcher price was correct ($30.95) and he said yes- and although I've been there many times, and have gotten the pitcher many times, I've never been charged that much. He was extremely dismissive so I let it go. Visiting from out of town, we ate here for my nephew's birthday. Great outdoor seating. It was so cold that night, no one was sitting out there. They did have heaters though. There's a tortilla maker machine right as you walk in. It wasn't on when we first got there but was running on our way out. My nephew loves to watch the fresh tortillas being made. We had plentiful chips and salsa and ordered queso to get us started. The drinks were also flowing. The food was good and there was plenty to take home leftovers. The service was good except that one of the plates (mine) did not come out with the rest of the food. That was disappointing but I didn't get the impression that this type of thing happens often. I was the only person to order dessert and if I have an opportunity I'll order fried ice cream. Unfortunately this one didn't quite hit the spot. As stated before, the food was good. When we notified the server that we were celebrating a birthday, the team came over with a giant sombrero and we sang Happy Birthday. He really enjoyed it. We had a nice family dinner. read more
