Great staff. Very friendly and willing to go out of their way for you. Taco al Pastor was not very good. They were some of the worst I have had. Ritas were very watery. I dont think they put any alcohol in it. They also had no flavor and were the size of kids cups for $6.00. Mine was suppossed to be strawberry but it tasted like ice water. I've been there so many times since they've opened when I was a bit younger. Probably over 100. The last few years their service has gone down the hole. I'd give them two if the last 8 times I've been there hadn't been so bad. I kept thinking "maybe this one time is a fluke" but I've had enough. I'll drive to Manassas before coming here again, and I live 5 minutes from this restaurant. The last time I went there with a party of 4 at 4 pm on a Wednesday. I really wanted tamales. We stood in line while employees just walked past us and ignored us for 20 minutes. Okay. We sat at our table with no menus, no drinks, no one even saying hello for another 30 minutes before we decided to leave. 50 minutes of our time wasted for the benefit of the doubt. We finally left and went to Frost's Diner. Another time, we got seated in the back (Don't EVER get seated back there... Usually screaming children parties or you get forgotten.) It took over two hours for us to get out of there because the server was so slow/nobody came to the back to check on us. The party next to us with 15 children AND adults screaming over each other, had excellent service. Finally we went to the front and cashed out because we were sick of waiting and the screaming children/adults. I've tried time and time again to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they've failed me every time. They used to be good. Now? Not at all. Foods OK at best. But don't ever ask for anything substituted or removed from your meal, they will not write it down and you'll get those tomatoes you asked not to or that cheese will be all over your taco, even though you're lactose intolerant.. Used to like this place, but not any more Used to go here at least once a week. However, everything seems to have gone downhill in the past few years. The place must be surviving on its reputation. The food quality is medicore. The salsa is bland and the tortilla chips are heavy. Service is rude. My friends and I have been served cold food more than once. The chicken used in the chicken fajitas is hit or miss. I just got grissle too often. Several times we have ordered chicken burritos or chicken enchiliadas and been served beef. When we politley pointed out the error, we were treated like we were an inconvenience. No reason to put up with such rudeness. Never going back. read more

I went here last night with my friend she was doing a spanish project as well and I went to help her. We got authentic soda and appetizers and main course and dessert. They were all wonderful but the fried. Ice cream (American dish) was not actually fried ice creams and our waitress was not very good with the menus because she was trying to tell us authentic food but couldn't remember what was authentic or not. I had the worst experience here got my order to go because it was pouring and my little one wasn't feeling well so we really needed to just grab and go. So we got Texas fajitas, huevos rancheros with a burrito, chicken fingers with fries and queso with chips. We got all the way home (25 minutes away) For $15 the Texas fajitas barely had any meat it literally is advertised with three different proteins (steak, shrimp and chicken) and it was almost entirely filled with vegetables that were completely under seasoned the refried bean smelled horrific and the guacamole was turning brown. My boyfriend was happy with his huevos rancheros but was very unsatisfied with his burrito yet again under seasoned the ground beef with so watery for reasons that are beyond us (and no it didn't get wet by the rain) so it wasn't even eaten. My sons chicken fingers and fries seem as though the had been microwaved because the fries and chicken were stuck to each and he didn't like them at all he would just keep spitting them out. Last but not least the queso one of my very favorite things to order whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant and let me tell you it's always extra it doesn't come with the chips like the salsa does. So I was super excited to dip into this queso (maybe I should've started with this because it's the first thing we eat) and I scooped a huge amount on to my chip because again it's my absolute favorite well to my surprise it was so sour and disgusting it tasted of spoiled milk!!! I mean it literally reminded me of that one time when I was a kid and didn't check the expiration date on the milk before pouring it into my bowl of cereal. I mean to says I'm disappointed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this place if I could give it no stars I would $50 dollars down the drain. El agave has great salsa. It has a kick to it and some think it's too hot. It's been consistent every time i've been there. I've tried a few things on the menu. Tacos el pastor, chimichangas, taco salad, enchiladas..etc... Overall good. It's nice when you have a Mexican food craving, but it's not going to knock your socks off. The environment is comfy, the service is spotty, and I haven't had an issue with cleanliness with the exception of going to the bathroom the 1 time. They really need to clean the restrooms and hallways going to the restrooms. read more

I was born and raised in San Diego, even spent a few years living in Mexico, Guadalajara, Comitan and Mexico City. Ever since moving to Virginia, I have been painstakingly looking for that one Mexican restaurant that met my expectations similar to home. Well, I found it. I have to say, this is a well priced great place to dine if you enjoy Mexican food. Every time we have dined, the staff have been excellent and we are always pleasantly surprised at the bill, always lower than we expect. Superior food at great prices! The salsa is PERFECT! This is a great little Mexican Restaurant in Warrenton, Va. They have added some new items to their menu and I had the Lechon Al Horn (baked pork, with sautéed veggies, white rice and fried plantains). It was a very generous portion and delicious. The last time I was went (or was going to go) I was leaving the Home Depot in Warrenton and called to place an order for pick up. The lady that answered asked me to give her a minute so I assumed they were busy and all was fine. I was on hold the WHOLE ride to the El Agave, which was about 10 minutes since there were stop lights. When I arrived I noticed they weren't even busy in the slightest. I could hear over the phone that the employees kept talking and were moving the phone around. Super disappointing and I haven't gone back since. read more

Pretty decent. The Warrenton area doesn't have a huge selection of restaurants, but my fiance said we should go and it was pretty good. Definitely not as good as Anita's, but it was nice. The ground beef is most similar to dog food, but not as moist. The service is atrocious. For a night out of being completely ignored and really bad food, this place should be your stop. My son got to watch 2 movies on my phone from the time we got sat until the time we left, so bring a full battery! No refills on drinks or chips, no checking back ever to see if we needed anything or if the food, which was awful, was ok. The table next to us was left dirty for probably 5-10 mins, but also got cleaned and resat while we sat there with dirty dishes all over the table. No manager came by when we complained, but we got our sodas off the check, only because i refused to pay for my two year olds that they charged $2.50 for amd mine that never even got refilled! This place used to be good, and we were excited to eat there, but seriously NEVER AGAIN! Taco bell is a better bet and better food quality, which is pretty sad.. read more

We've frequented El Agave many times over the years and have had fine experiences - but yesterday was VERY disappointing. First off, we went on a Tuesday during lunchtime. There were plenty of open tables. In all fairness, as we were about to pay (and leave our tip) they apologized for the wait and said it was because they had a large party in the other room. First, it took FOREVER for them to even take our order. There were 2 adults and 4 kids. Even after I had opened the kids drinks for refills, they brought over refills for the adults and knocked over the kids empty drinks but still didn't refill them. My mom and I ordered the lunch special fajitas. When they came out they didn't come with anything except beans, rice and tortillas. I flagged the lady and asked about the lettuce, sour cream, and cheese that normally comes with them and she said "no, not for lunch". Something that would have been helpful if it had been written on the menu under the lunch specials. Not impressed with the service or the food. It will be a long time until we decide to return. read more

Good, relatively inexpensive Mexican food. The chips are typical thick restaurant-style chips, the salsa has a nice kick and just enough fresh cilantro to balance it out. We went for the Monday fajita special ($8.99 for chicken or beef), and the chicken was excellent, but the beef was chewy (not cut against the grain). The Horchata was thin but very tasty and refreshing. The fried ice cream was average, but the rainbow sprinkles were a nice touch. As many other reviewers have stated, service after you get your food is slow. The restaurant has great atmosphere, the chairs and headboards of the booths are all painted; there are murals on nearly every wall. read more

I ordered the taco, enchilada, rice and bean combo. I asked to substitute the rice for a double order of beans. Nope. Came with rice only, no beans. The taco was ok but the beef enchilada came wrapped in a flour tortilla not a corn tortilla. Enchilada's are made with corn tortilla's. The enchilada had no taste at all. It was just browned ground beef stuffed in a flour tortilla and covered with a tasteless sauce. I went to lunch here with my mother who had the chicken nacho's. While she said there was a lot of chicken the chips were limp after being covered with a thin cheese sauce. read more

This restaurant is disappointing. This was my second time here, and my family and I were excited but as you can probably guess we left DISAPPOINTED!! Everything was OK until we got out food. The waiter checked on us like twice which is fine. We got our food which my husband's and sisters was wrong. First we told the lady that the quesadilla she brought was wrong because my husband ordered a shrimp quesadilla and they gave him chicken. She stood there and gave push back stating that was the right order. No ma'am, it was not and finally she took it back and INSTANTLY brought the shrimp quesadilla meaning she brought out the wrong plate. Then we also told her that my sister ordered the steak mex and the plate was most definitely wrong as her steak was supposed to be topped with mushrooms, green peppers and cheese. Her steak was topped with shrimp and what seemed like tomato sauce. Again she gave push back and this time did not take the plate back as she "knew" that was the right plate. Again no ma'am it was not!! KNOW YOUR MENU. You work at a restaurant and make your money off of the customers that you get. I've been in the restaurant business before, so I know what it is like to mess up, which is fine that's not what even bothered us. so please know your menu and listen when a customer says something is wrong. We are paying for the food and service. Needless to say we will NOT be there again. If anyone lives in the Warrenton/ Nokesville area I recommend "Hectors of Nokesville", their food is amazing, good prices and the best service!! First decent Mexican food I've had on the East Coast. Only place that has a clue of what chile verde is! Service has always been great.

We have been here several times, and although I have had better Mexican food it was still good and we kept coming back. We like the location and the menu and the reasonable prices. But we had a truly awful experience tonight, and I doubt I will come back. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because it was very busy tonight, but SO MANY things went wrong. We probably saw a total of five different people rather than one server (one even told us he was a cook!) and no one seemed to be communicating with anyone else. First we waited forever for a server to take our drink orders, then when the drinks finally arrived the horchata tasted like a powdered mix with artificial cinnamon flavor (gross!) and they completely forgot to bring my son's milk. I reminded the server and he said "of course!" but the milk never showed up. I had to ask another server and then it finally arrived. Chips were stale and had an off flavor. Then my fajitas arrived but the other 5 people at the table were still waiting. Of course I couldn't be rude and start eating so I waited. While my food got cold we continued to wait. Finally the rest of the dishes arrived...well, all except one. One diner was sitting there without her meal. We had to remind them again that they completely forgot one of the orders. To add insult to injury, half of the other dishes were lukewarm or cool! But could we start eating? No, because we still had no silverware despite several requests. One of my party actually got up and found a server to bring silverware. OK, so really rough start, but it could be redeemed by really excellent food...which wasn't there either. Rice was overcooked, the "steak" fajitas were tiny strips of tough chewy beef, tortillas were stale and not warm. When we spoke to the manager, he was rather rude and demanded, "well what do you want me to do to make it better?" I really don't think it is our responsibility to tell him how to fix our experience when so many things were bad! It's not like we could send back one or two dishes. Our evening was completely ruined. Eventually...after having to speak to the manager several times, they comped 50% of the meal. I don't want a free meal, I want a good (hot and fresh!) meal served well. Delays are ok when a place is busy, a mistake or two can be forgiven especially when it is politely remedied quickly. None of that happened tonight. read more
