What is going on lately? I have had to call just about every week the past 2 months. I have had missed pick-ups almost every week! I have to call the next day and they say they will have a driver come by and dump. Other houses on my block aren't dealing with this. It's really bizarre. I know they're swapping old bins with the new ones, and ours are finally swapped, but I would have a driver tell me "hey, leave your bin out I will come by and replace it with a new one today!" I leave the bin out, and nothing. This happened with every color bin we had. Just seems like there is some major disorganization. I've always gotten really friendly customer service when I call, which I do appreciate. But.. when we had a trash service in Los Angeles I think I had to call them maybe 1 time in 4 years and it was for a bulky item pick up. Never had them just missing a pick-up on 1 or multiple bins. My recycle bin gets passed by too often. I've called and reported it and all I get is a 'thank you'. Yesterday was the 4th time in less than 2yrs. I watched as the truck came and they lifted it as if they were going to dump it, then dropped it down hard knocking it over. I don't have much in there, as a matter of fact, it's left over from last week when they didn't pick it up. Nothing is stuck. Nothing is in there that shouldn't be. I called and spoke to a nice scheduler who set me up within a few days to perform a specialty pick up of a 7' sofa a double wide chair and foot stool. It had rained and while these items were kept under covered driveway they still got wet So we're even heavier than normal. The guy who came to pick it all up was beyond amazing. He lifted all of it into his front loader with ease and took all of my very large cardboard leaving my drive way clear. I live in Camarillo springs on a Thursday pick up and I did not catch his name but he was a gentleman and beyond kind. Omg he took such a load off for me. What spectacular customer service. I'm shocked!!!!! Recently I looked at ways to cut back on spending. I was spending $100 a month having recycling, waste, and landscape containers for Harrison to come weekly for pick up. I called Harrison to find out my options for cheaper rate , maybe having smaller containers or having them come once a month, etc. the options i was given , I still was not satisfied with the fees. Then the lady told me i can drop off my own waste , for HALF a TON is $35!!!!!!!! . Unbelievable!!!! I cant believe how much Harrison is charging for the 'convenience' to have thr guys pick up trash on a weekly basis. So my neighbor and I decided to return our bins purchase our own trash bins , we found trash containers extremely cheap online ($20 a bin) and we dump our own trash and we now split the cost for our monthly dump $18 is now what I pay a month by dropping off my own waste. They are open on Saturdays for all you people that work Monday thru Friday. I'm writing this post to give awareness for consumers and their options that you may not be aware of. Take a couple minutes and read some of the 1 or 2 star reviews of this company. Feel the pain of the reviewers. There's genuine outrage in those reviews. I don't dispute anything they say. If the contents of my garbage cans were dumped on the street and they refused to clean it up, or if I was treated poorly when I called in to complain, I'd be outraged too. I get where these folks are coming from. But my experience with EJ Harrison & Sons has been totally different. I have been a customer for over 20 years. In my estimation, these guys are a 5 Star company. Let me give you some examples of why I think they are great. I love that they pick up all three bins every week. Back when I first contracted with them they picked up your trash every week, but only picked up garden clippings and recyclables on alternating weeks. I hated that alternating weeks system. I could never keep track of what week it was. I'd look out to see what bins my neighbors put out and I'd see some put out the blue recycling ones and others put out the brown yard waste ones. It seems like no one ever knew which week it was. Now you don't have to keep track, you just put out all three every week. I am very conscientious about putting my bins out on time, but on a couple occasions I've forgotten and missed the normal pickup. All it took was a quick phone call and another pick up was scheduled. Speaking of special pick ups, if you are a homeowner and have huge items that won't fit in your regular bins, EJ Harrison provides two special pick ups every year, no extra charge. They recently picked up my broke down water softener and old dining room table. I have no idea how I would've gotten rid of them otherwise. Probably would have needed to rent a truck and haul them to the dump myself. Every summer my wife forces, I mean, lovingly asks, me to clean out the garage. I have to rent one of those big rolling dumpsters. They're a little pricey to rent, but I appreciate that Harrison offers them. Their customer service team makes sure you know not to overfill them and when they need to be out on the curb for pick up. Scheduling drop off and pick up is very easy. Many reviewers complain about the rudeness of the people that answer the phones. That has not been my experience at all. I have never encountered a rude customer service agent. I will say it seems like it takes forever to get through to an agent sometimes, but once connected I've never had any complaints about how I was treated on the phone. The agents I've dealt with have been helpful and efficient. Also, after regular business hours, Harrison continues to give good customer service. When there is a holiday and you wonder if your receptacles will be picked up on the regular day, all you have to do is call. They always have the information recorded as part of the greeting; you don't have to wait to ask an agent. Really, the only negative thing I have to say about the company is that their trucks are too got damn loud. What a racket they make! Not sure there's a solution for that, though. While I appreciate the trash service that EJ Harrison provides, I'm so disappointed (and shocked) about what's going on as they upgrade the trash cans by removing the bars from them. As they pop out the bars, they are leaving the hardware that was holding them in place lying all over the streets of Ojai. Yesterday I must have picked up 45+ rubber rings and bolts on my morning walk, and today I took a different route and picked up even more. Kind of outrageous. read more

Rented a bin (dumpster). Paid extra to put on my driveway. It was left on the street which is illegal. I rolled it into my driveway. When I called for pick up, a rude lady lectured me that I had to pay extra if it was on my property. I pointed out that I had and filled out a waiver. The pick up guys came, looked at it, and left it in my driveway without trying to contact me. Athens was so much better! Maybe our city can contract with Athens next time contracts are up. I would like to put in a nice word for Joel who works in dispatch for containers. He does a great job and really shuffle things around when you need him too. Harrison as a trash company is questionable in their recycling division. They do a terrible job of sorting trash that you drop off from a construction site. If you drop off a load of drywall only they just mix it in with the regular trash. In my opinion, that is really irresponsible to the earth that we all have to live in. read more

By far the worst most lazy trash people I've ever had ..The trash man refuses to pick up the trash unless it's literally in the middle of the street even though it says on e.g. Harrison's website to put it on the curb. This is happened no less than 10 times in the past two years. I wish I could get another trash provider, but the city seems to go with this really awful one. My experience just ordering a roll-off dumpster has been frustrating. The customer reps are polite but either poorly trained or there is a disconnect between the customer service department and the trash collection department. Took several back and forth emails and phone calls over three days just to have the roll off bin delivered. Now, I'm trying to have it picked up. I've made two requests so far. I would say don't expect anything to be easy with this Company. I wish the County would look for an alternative next time Harrison's contract comes up. read more

Ej harrison does not consider their drivers seriously, and clearly doesnt have a clear picture of what their employees should be. Over the past 4 months we've had our can in the middle of the road in front of our neighbors, the can 2-3ft blocking our driveway (coming home from work ive hit and scratched my new truck 3 separate times) AFTER we started to give 3-4ft of space between the cans and the DRIVEWAY, and we got a driver that hoxboxes his truck across the street and can smell it inside the house. After waiting 30min for customer service, i hung up and wrote this review, because not only is the customer service TERRIBLE, but the truck drivers in Ojai are even worse!! No problems getting a can, but customer service?? Its like nobodys at the phone!! I hope someone that has power in ej harrison actually looks at this one, because im not happy and if i were older id sue because nobody over 60 should walk their can an extra 50ft in the middle of the street!!! Rented a dumpster for a remodel. They don't send you any documentation on the agreement. Paid $200 upfront and just got a bill for additional $550. Agent tells me her recording states they were very clear that they would charge for each dump. They were not or else I wouldn't be so shocked. Then she says oh yeah if we had known you were doing a remodel we would have suggested a larger bin. And that would have run you around $300 instead of $750. Gee, thanks. Maybe train your customer service people better or better yet, provide some sort of information via email. read more

Watch out for E.J. Harrison's billing. They will frequently try to double charge using the excuse that your auto-pay didn't process the payments correctly or within their statement period. So this week my neighbor's guests parked in front of my trashcans before they were picked up, so this Thursday my trash was left alone. My neighbor's friends had two notices on their car that they blocked some cans, and he came over to apologize profusely the next day. (Why the trash guys didn't move my cans and empty them when they were leaving those notes I'll never know...) I called EJ Harrison and explained the situation and advised them that I have toddler twins and another one coming. Therefore the amount of waste generated at my house was quiet large and I needed it to be picked on Friday. I was assured that it would be taken care of. Come Saturday my trash is still in its bins and EJ Harrison is not helpful at all. I called them and although they see a work order for supervisor Dave to have completed a pickup on Friday that just wasn't the case. The company told me that unfortunately there is nothing they can do now since it's the weekend. Piss poor customer service on their part. I have no choice in trash companies unfortunately, but if you do I recommend you look elsewhere. read more

BEWARE! This place is a rip off! I needed a dumpster for a remodel and they talked me into using a much larger container than I needed or could use. The driver could not unload it anywhere in the complex, let alone my driveway. They then charged me a dry run fee for the oversize bin they talked me into. They already do the regular service to our association so they know what can fit or be unloaded in the complex. They refuse to drop the dry run charge after they told me I would not be charged for the bin. I have tried to reason with them but they will not listen and refuse to drop the charge. I will bring this up at the next homeowners meeting and will push for a change in service providers. read more

This review is specific to a person by the name of Josie who took my call this morning for a 3-yard roll off bin request. We've called for bin requests over the years, and everyone has been professional and courteous. Josie was beyond professional and courteous, and we laughed a couple of times during the call. Then she told me that EJ Harrison can now pick up 4 large items per year, whether it be 2 items at a time for instance, or separately. That was a nice thing to learn. It's probably been on our bill, but I've never paid attention. With regards to the trash pick up service, we haven't had problems, but I do agree that rarely there are times there's trash (mainly paper) on the ground after pickup day. Nothing I can't pick up myself, but it's happened. Overall we are satisfied with the company. read more

I see a lot of people complaining about trash service here. I've been living in Ventura County for pretty much my whole life. I've never had any issues with EJ Harrison at all. Of course I always get my can out the night before and I pay my bills (wow what a concept). The little bit of time I spent out of state I had Waste Management & Republic as my haulers and let me tell you.....Horrible. You never knew if your neighborhood let alone your personal can was going to be picked up on the right day. If you called to let them know you were missed you would be lucky if it got dumped before your next pick up day. I've called Harrison and lied and said I was missed when I know its because I was out of town, they came later that afternoon. All people want to do is complain these days, and 90% of the time its their fault and they know it. And yes renting dumpsters is very expensive but I have a friend in Thousand Oaks that got a dumpster from Athens the new company up there and its almost $200 a dump!!!! Harrison was like $100 or maybe a little more a dump. So get a life, stop complaining and do what your supposed to do and you wont have any issues!! WOW!! read more

Roll off bin service is great. Affordable and customer service was spot on. Filled out a form after hours, got a call promptly the next morning, got the bin delivered the next day. Needed the bin dumped and called right after labor day @6am - dispatch was actually working that early to receive my call for a pickup that same day. I am very impressed. Plus EJ Harrison seems to have one of the best recycling programs around. They take a whole gamut of different materials. I always respected that. And the company overall is huge w community. I have been flipped off, had abseen gestures thrown my way with my children in the car by their drivers. Called customer service and nothing... no call back no "hey, we here you and we'll look into it." Rather we don't care because we know you have no where else to go with your trash needs!
