If I could give this place zero starts I absolutely would. That's what it deserves. First, I'm gonna start off by saying I was standing in line and someone else was let go in front of me when I was already standing in line the SA worker pointed to the next person in line which was me, but I gave it to someone else. But that's not even my main issue. My problem is I had a bag of #2 copper, that I have been gathering for a few months. Weighed it at home before even going to the recycling center and it weighed 21 pound. Wherever this worker was, a SA employee, put up my items on the scale and weighed them at 3 pounds total which ultimately came out to $11 total which is an absolute rip off, disrespectful and an absolutely a punch in the face for my time and totally unacceptable to get ripped off. Damn to top it all off. The two employees were looking at me and staring as I walked back to my car like that isn't already obvious and I'm trying to figure out what is it they have against me? This is a waste of my time and my money. Why would someone want to rip off someone off? It doesn't interfere with the employee earnings. Oh and by the way, but these employees, saw my bucket of copper and told me before putting my copper on the scale that anything over $20. I'll have to wait 4 days to get payout bs. what a coincidence, now all of a sudden it only weighs 3 pounds. read more

I took a stainless steel Viking grill over with some other scrap iron and copper pots. This lady Sonia labeled the load just as "tin". I tried to explain to her that it wasn't tin after I had unloaded 240 pounds of stainless steel and iron, and she told me I could reload it and take it apart and come back. This lady was not reasonable and lowballed the load I had hauled across town, only to get a few bucks. I called the SA headquarters to file a complaint and they were just as unreasonable and difficult to work with. I've gone twice during the last hour, the first time 15 minutes before (that I understand although my cans were all organized and I'd be out in time) the second time 30 minutes before and was told "we have no more people so we are closing" am I not a person? So here's the dirty truth... (Here's a little story behind my Recycling adventure) I started recycling cans & bottles approximately 15 years ago and I just can't give it up. When I first started collecting cans, I would go to the ends of the earth to get my hands on the nickel or dime (the redemption value of a can/bottle depending on size) that that bottle or can was worth. I remember setting up a recycling bin at my work for any cans/bottles consumed by my fellow co-workers while at work. I even had one of my managers start bringing me her recyclable cans and bottles from home as she knew just how excited I would get when she brought me two large black trash bags full of them. I had no shame, and even if I saw a bottle or can on the ground as I walked to my car, I would gladly pick it up and add it to my collection for when I would later turn my stash into hard core cash. In the beginning, I used to save every penny that I earned from my recycling, and at one point I had easily over 1,000 bucks and it felt good to know I sacrificed so much time and energy to keep recycling not just for myself and the side money I was earning, but helping out our earth as well. These days, I still recycle and I even have a small bin at work where I collect the water bottles, energy drinks, etc. that my coworkers drink while at work. But as opposed to saving the cash for myself, I give it to my daughters to supplement their college funds and save for their futures. ---------------------------------------------------- These days it's kind of hard to find places to turn your redemption-valued cans and bottles into cash. Most of the State approved recycling centers either closed or went out of business. Luckily SA Recycling in Oxnard is ready to turn that aluminum, glass and plastic into your favorite Presidents (Washington, Lincoln, and Jackson). Sure recycling centers can be a little stinky, maybe even a little sticky, but for someone who has recycled nearly 15 years and has redeemed literally thousands of dollars; I say go for it! Its not only good for the planet, but who doesn't want a little extra cash in their pockets? So the next time you see a bottle or can on the ground and you decide to just walk past it, remember that's money you just walked past and someone else is going to profit off of it. What can I say, I love to recycle. I probably come here every 2-3 months as my family accumulates a lot of plastic water gallons and bottles. Every time I go, the process is smooth with no issues. When you get there you'll grab a few of their recycling bins and you'll place your recycled items in there. Then you take it to them and they'll weigh it. From there, they will give you a slip with how much everything is worth. You then take it to the cashier for your payout. That's it! I always average around $35-40 when I go. It's not much but I'll take it. Just note it's grungy and smelly and you should wear gloves. But overall I'm okay with that since I get to help out Mother Earth and Captain Planet would be proud. read more

Honestly,I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The customer service here was horrible. The girls at the main office had a line of people and all they did was chat for a good 7-10 minutes. Once they started doing their job, she took her sweet time. Also the lady that works at the bar car drop off place was all extremely arrogant and rude. Usually, when I recycle we take our bottles and cans to a place up down Victoria behind Ralph's where you place each and individual bottle one by one thru a machine. Here not the case. The process is fairly fast and easy. Alright, so here's the scoop after talking to the nice cashier lady about the place. Front/Gate 1: is the customer service and drive on weighing scale. Ideally, this scale is used for big industrial or commercial trucks. Gates 2 & 3: is for tin and iron Gates 4 & 5: Industrial and commercial big loads Gate 6: anything under 100 lbs., Aluminum, Plastic Bottles, CRV, Copper, etc. So depending on what applies to you is which gate you cut and dry just drive to. I'm not sure if cleanliness really matters considering all you're doing is recycling, but if it does then to be honest in the recycling area where the scales are it's pretty grimy from Soda and stuff being spilled. If you're are strapped for time then prior to showing up ensure everything is empty ahead of time insuring the process goes quick. Everything is easy. For example, if you're turning in empty Plastic Bottles then simply.... 1. Drive up to Gate 6. 2. Take them out of your car and bring them over. 3. Grab one of the stacked empty plastic garbage cans on the right side. 4. Throw any access garbage such as bags and stuff in the big metal trash bin. 5. Give the guy your stuff, then they'll put it on a scale. 6. Give the guy your driver license (how they process the receipt). 7. Sign receipt. 8. Go to cashier behind you to get your cash. Easy as 1-2-3. Actually 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8. Good luck! read more

We arrived there at 1:47pm on Saturday 4/27/2021 with just a few metal items to sell/recycle. We had phoned ahead of time and knew their closing time was 2:00pm. They said they were closed (CLOSING EARLY!) and would not let us in. We begged, along with two other customers who had arrived at the same time. The worker who would not let us in was named "Francisco". We had to leave with our metal. The place is poorly run. The hours advertised online are not correct (e.g. Apple Maps says they are open until 7:00pm M-F but they are really only open until 4:00pm). On Monday I asked them at the office when they really close and they told me "10 minutes before the posted time". However, since we were refused entrance when arriving 13 minutes before closing time, even this is not accurate. Today I managed to arrive during their operating hours and turn in my metal. I had various metals mixed together, virtually none of it being cheap tin, but they called it all "tin" so I was only given $2.31 for 74 pounds of mostly steel. What a waste of time! I helped the environment (or did I, since I had to drive there in my car 3 times?), but this was personally a waste of time. I spent about $3.40 in fuel to wait in line and only got $2.31. I hope my car tires didn't get any punctures from the sharp hazards on the asphalt at SA Recycling. There is something wrong with California -- the state used to be a leader in environmental issues and recycling. Now I understand why some people dump mattresses on the side of the road, because there is little incentive to dispose of garbage responsibly. read more

BEWARE FIRST TIMERS CUSTOMERS!!! The waiting lines are Very Disorganized!!!! My hubby waited in line for his turn. When it was almost his turn the line disappeared, the employee walked off & no other employee directed him to another line. To make matters worst, the customers in the nearest line were extremely rude because no one would let him be in front of them with his one (1) & only barrel of recycleables. These other customers had 3 or more barrels each!!! What a disorganized system for customer lines! It causes customers to argue about where their position in line really is. The lines should be clearly marked with painted lines on the ground. The employees should put a Closed sign on a line that is being discontinued. Finally, the unfortunate customers stuck in the discontinued line should be escorted to the nearest line & given a spot Not at the back of the line. This is how it's done successfully in Costco. All these problems could be avoided if SA Recycling employees were more attentive & aware of the conditions of the people standing in lines. Because of Bad first time experience, we will Never come back!!!! P.S. Good luck in finding a parking space on the property. read more

Everything was good except for the lady at the scale because she saw me doing something by the rear license plate- she assumed (wrongly) I was trying to take the rear license plate off which apparently is not allowed- and then instead of JUST asking me what i was doing she told me to go stand over there and "open my book" where I had put my personalized license plate FRAME (which i had forgotten to take off- & had to break off at the last moment b/c nobody would kindly allow me to borrow a screwdriver for 30 seconds) . she talked to me like I was some kind of criminal or something . all you need to do is ask lady- or look at the vehicle itself - the plate was still there. show some respect. NOT ALL of us are criminals just because we're recycling our vehicle via Bureau of Automotive Repair program. Being poor is NOT a crime- & recycling a vehicle does NOT mean you are poor & dishonest- it might mean you're smart. I just bought a new car & this one was having engine problems & i couldn't fix it or resell it - that's what this program is good for. Also they need to put up a number for the gate next to the scale. I know it's a wrecking yard but you don't have to live in it like you're a hobo. You can make it look decent. read more

Simi Valley had an SA Recycling and Simi Valley Recycling transport center, but now we have neither, so I am glad that I began going to the SA locations in Oxnard, both locations pay the same rate by weight. The difference between Rice Ave location and Mountain View location are a great advantage i think. Timing is everything when it comes to wait time. It can be quick + easy. I'm heading over right now, opening time 08:00 Saturday June 11, 2017 to cash in, expecting it to be quicker than lunch time and closing hours. read more

I have been going to this location for almost 2 years now to do my recycling, and today I just found out that if you want to have your heavier plastics counted as individuals to get more money, you have to TELL them and of course separate them. Today I separated my heavier plastics, but I didn't know I was supposed to tell them to count per bottle. The guy was not really very friendly about it, and he didn't even offer to pull back my container to count it After I told him many times that I separated the heavier plastics. He kept on saying just to make some with the other ones because they're all the same when in fact they weren't, and I made it a point to separate them. He just said oh well I should have told him to count it, and he was saying it had to be 50 or more for it to be counted. The manager to whom I complained later on said that it was up to 50, it can be less than 50 but not more, so this new guy wasn't very trained. My complaint is that they should have a sign saying you have to TELL the person to count it if you want it counted as individuals. They didn't have any sign at all and the guy really didn't even offer to pull my container back Even though I kept telling him that I separated my havier plastics in another container. He just kept telling me to included in the regular plastic because they were all the same when in fact they weren't. I could have gotten more money today, but because of the negligence of the new guy, I didn't. Thankfully, after I complained to the manager, she gave me a little coupon for the next one: however, I'm still very disappointed that I've been coming here for the last 2 years, and I've been getting jipped with my heavier plastics. Hopefully, this will inform other people, so they won't get jipped with their heavier plastics. read more
