2 stars? Are you kidding me? Hell no, EJ Harrison is five stars all damn day. You know I'm gonna tell you why. Let's start with the fact that they now pick up all three receptacles (trash, recycling, garden clippings) each week. No more trying to remember which can to put out every week. That's huge. Now, suppose you need to have something picked up that's too large to fit in your receptacle? If you are a homeowner, Harrison will schedule a special pick up for your extra large item. You get two special pick ups every year. This service covered by your monthly bill. No additional charge. And they have outstanding customer service. You know I'm gonna tell you why. Take this morning, for example. I heard the truck in front of my house at 6:45 am. I had not put my receptacles out yet. I thought, that can't possibly be Harrison, they don't come before 8 am. I went out to see what was going on. By the time I got my shoes on and went outside, the truck was way down the end of the block. What the hell? My next door neighbor and the lady across the street were out in front of their houses too. We all looked at each other, like, what is going on here? I was pissed off! I went back inside, cussing like a sailor. I steamed for about 15 minutes. When I finally cooled off a little, I called the customer service line. And I get a damn recording. Now I'm back to fully steamed. But the recording said if you needed assistance with scheduling a pick up Press 8 for Dispatch. So I pressed 8 and lo and behold, they picked up. It was 7:01 am. I said, Hey, I thought you guys didn't pick up until 8 am? The dispatcher says, No, we start at 7. So I say, well ok, it's 7 am right now, and the truck was here 15 minutes ago. The dispatcher says, Ok, so which receptacle didn't get picked up, the trash? I said, I don't know, the truck was way down the street by the time I got out there. I told the guy my neighbors missed their pickups too. So the dispatcher says, OK, I'll send the truck back by. Just to be sure, he verified my name and address. The truck was back literally within 5 minutes. Tragedy narrowly averted. I was super impressed. Thank you Mr Dispatcher! Here's another reason why EJ Harrison is a 5 Star business: I have rented one of those big rolling dumpsters several times. They're a little pricey to rent, but I appreciate they offer them. Their customer service team makes sure you know not to overfill them and when they need to be out on the curb for pick up. Scheduling drop off and pick up is very easy. And still another reason: After hours, Harrison gives good phone. When there is a holiday and you wonder if your receptacles will be picked up on the regular day, all you have to do is call. They always have the information recorded as part of the greeting; you don't have to wait to ask an agent. And whenever you do need to talk to an agent, they're really helpful. Unlike the customer service agents at almost all other utilities, the people that answer the phones at EJ Harrison are helpful and efficient. The only negative thing I have to say about the company is that their trucks are too got damn loud. Not sure there's a solution for that, though. Trash pickup is a thankless job, but... I pay a lot of money to have my trash picked up weekly at curbside, but they often skip my home and still invoice the full monthly amount. It is the worst service I have ever experienced in trash removal, and I would not recommend them to anyone! read more

Been with Harrison for years and never had a problem. There's been like 2 or 3 times over the years my bins got skipped. Where I live they get clustered in with the neighbors but Harrison always makes it right. I love that up to twice a year they will haul off a large item for free. read more

I don't like the fact that we have to put yard waste out one week and recycling out another, but we live with it. For the second time my yard waste was not picked up. I called the first time just to let them know that I was skipped and told them they didn't need to send someone out because my yard waste was not too full. Today I called because it was missed again and the customer service woman didn't bother to apologize... she just questioned if I put it out on time. I told her yes I put it out the night before and she rudely replied just leave it out tomorrow between 7:00 to 6:00 and someone will be by to pick it up. She did not say sorry for the inconvenience or I'm so sorry that it happened again! She is fortunate to have a job and all of EJ Harrison's customer service employees should be nice not rude! read more

They are a monopoly so you have to put up with them not picking up, lying about your credit card being denied when it WAS NOT, sending bills you don't owe, not answering the phone and putting you on hold forever. There is no alternative to ANY monopoly. You are their prisoner. It is not just once but way too often these things occur. There is no manager to speak to. EJ Harris & Sons had been taking care of the trash pick up at my mother's house for over 20 years. The week she passed away (June 14th 2013) I was cleaning up her outstanding bills and contacted EJ Harris' customer service department by phone to inquire of her balance and to let them know she had deceased. The customer service representative told me she was very sorry, for my loss and that the outstanding balance would be dismissed. Since that time I have received (through forwarded mail) several "remaining balance" bills for trash pick up. I have called several times to discuss the situation (each time re-telling the story) each time being told: "We will look into it" Today, over a year later, I got a call from the customer service department telling me she owes $37.00. Unbelievable. After what I felt was a very insensitive conversation with the office manager, I asked her if I could speak to the business owner and was told "They are semi-retired and never in the office". I asked to speak with her direct supervisor and was put on hold for a few moments, I was then connected to the voice mail for the General Manager L. Harrison. Where I left a message. What a shame to have this blemish on your sterling reputation for excellent customer service. I would not have written this scathing review in the first place if ANY of my calls had been handled properly, or routed to an appropriate authority. Shame on you. read more

Not sure I would ever write a review about a trash company, but for the 2nd time in the last 7 months, I was late out with my trash only to see the truck was past me by 3-4 houses. Seeing my running out, the driver has, on both occasions, reversed back up the road to come get it. With a smile. Yesterday I called to have a lot of cardboard and other packing materials picked up. The customer service rep was courteous and pleasant to talk to. She advised me to put the cardboard with recycling and they would do their best to pick it all up the next day which was my recycle day. I also had a pallet and four garbage bags full of styrofoam. Harrison keep raising rates for their rentals. When I rented previously they charged 90 dollars a dump the after a week an additional dollar a day. I just called they want 97 dollars a dump 3 dollars a day and you have to keep it if you want to use it more than once or there is additional fee to deliver within a 30 day window. They don't care that we are in a pandemic and need decent prices. They gouge you. The customer service don't care either making you feel like a Karen with the price shock!!! read more

These guys are a pain to deal with. I have lived in a cul de sac for the past year, and these guys seem to find countless excuses as to why our bins cannot be picked up. There have been 2 times where they havent picked our bins up because they were in front of my driveway, which was necessary because there was no curbside parking, meaning no place to place bins. Apparently they expect me to either move other peoples cars or leave my bins in the street. Multiple times they have neglected to pick up my trash for no apparant reason other than maybe that they didnt feel like it at that particular time. The most recent was last week. I called customer service twice, to no avail. I even saw the flatbed work truck pull up my street, but thwy still didnt pick it up. I called back this morning, and spoke to dispatch. The man I spoke to was very rude, and said there was a note on my account that "bin was not left out" yesterday, when a truck came for it. So, how am I suppose to use it when I opened I would gag.I contacted them and said I thew a few things in it and had to stop. Can I give them a zero star rating? In all my years I've never seen a company this bad! I've been in Construction for many years and I've never seen a company this bad. Don't listen to anything they say it's all lies! Lucky for them that the city awards contracts, otherwise they would be out of my business with the service they offer if you want to call it service. I'm doing a job in New Berrypark Ca, on Tuesday I ordered another 10 yard bin. And I was told your bin will arrive from 8 to 11 but I'm sure you'll have it by 10 am the said customer service . So I had my crew and the rented Bob cat ready , my first call to them was 9:00 in the morning to see how we're looking , it'll be around 10 to 11 ok 10 goes by 11 goes by. So I call them back. They tell me the driver is not calling them back, so then they tell me they will have the driver call me , what? He is not call you but he will call me? Well a half hour goes by and we're at noon the driver calls and says I can pick up your folk bin go drop it off and re delivery it empty . That's not going to do I have crews and equipment since 7 am. So at 1 I had to send everyone home and bring back the rented equipment. A total wasted day and a lot of wasted money! read more

When a company has a monopoly on a public service they hold all the cards and do what ever they want. They let my bill get so out of hand gave me a call didn't include the amount so I can pay it, a week later in an email after my request they gave me a bill for 281.00. They sent out bills during the height of the Thomas Fires knowing Oak View was devastated by the fire. Everything was shut down even trash pick yet we still got billed and never received a bill to know how much to pay I'm not going to just give you a chunk of money if I don't have a bill in my hand. I tried to explain but to them the customer is always wrong. Poor customer service and cares nothing for the community they conduct business in. If you can afford it take your trash to the transfer station for 25.00 a load far less than the trash company charges to basically do nothing. read more

Horrible customer service. Failed to pick up our green waste cans and had to call. Told that they would send a driver out, but no one came. Called the next day and told that they would not come out and just to wait two more weeks for the next pick-up. This has happened several times to myself and neighbors. They do not care as they have a monopoly on waste pickup and actually profit more by not picking up your cans. I also called the city to complain which seems to be the only recourse, hopefully they reconsider when the next contract is awarded. read more

Dear YELPERS, you can complaint all you want about Harrions EJ and Sons, but unless you become an official for Ventura and terminate their contract you are stuck with this company. This company knows the definition of supply and demand, and us as customers need them. They monopolized the service in Ventura, therefore they DONT need us the customers. You need to bring your complaints to the city, and maybe they can (did I mentioned maybe) do something about it. Just remember that their staff dont work for any of us, they work for Harrisons. EJH has a big job and does it well. I live north of Ojai and share EJH bins for trash and one for recycling with my neighbors. Recently I needed to recycle an electric water heater and contacted EJH to arrange a pickup--these do not go into the bins and there is a $35.71 charge to collect them separately. On the day of pickup I went to meet the driver but the heater was picked up by someone else. Before continuing on his route, the driver graciously told me that he would note in his Driver's log for the business office to cancel the billing because there was nothing to pick up. I did receive a bill anyways for the $35.71 from the business office. We spoke and they were able to determine there would be no charge. EJH has a tremendous number of customer accounts and I am pleased that their business office has taken the time to resolve my small matter. Ted read more

I had scheduled a roll off to be delivered on a Friday morning between 9am & 1pm. The roll off was delivered at 1:30pm. When I called customer service at 11:am to see when the roll off would arive, all I got was a bunch of excuses and passed from a service rep to a manager to a disbatcher and no one offered a solution just excuses. That kind of culture in a company comes from the top down. Save yourself the aggravation and just get a dump truck to come out. Worst customer service experience ever !!! read more

This company needs to be shut down. Every call you make to them you get different information. Their business is archaic for the money they charge. I had to have emergency back surgery and my bill fell behind. My can was full and in the road and they refused for weeks to empty it. Unfortunately I was waiting for my disability checks and could not move the cans due to my back. After several calls I am now billed for weeks of service when they refused to empty the cans because I still HAD the cans which were in the road. How can I be billed to 5 weeks of service when no service was provided and their cans were out there for them to take. Fortunately I have an alternate trash provider because I will NOT be paying for this. This is not the first time I have had issues with them. Their systems are outdated where they don't even KNOW when a driver quits collecting or when the can was picked up. They just bill you for whatever they like and tell you to bad because they are the city's only trash service. I think the citizens of Ventura need to change this and allow competition. I will be attending my first city council meeting to address this. After speaking to MANY friends I have discovered they ALL have had nightmare experiences with this company. I am shocked the way the trash driver responded to my request to take a bag that was left by our contractor. We just moved into the house and wanted to get rid of this trash. He started laughing at me saying that this is the size we pay for( though our two other bins are bigger size).We did not know why we were given bins of different sizes. We can pay $1.50 extra for a bigger trash bin, but nobody asked us what we want. Anyway, I am amazed how rude the driver was, and I think the company should be making better choices hiring trash drivers. read more
