I placed an order last Wednesday (12/20/23) around 6:20am, on Einstein's website. I arrived at the store for my pick up and there was a sign on the door stating "Late open due to building maintenance" I thought, okay, totally understandable I'll call them when they open... In the meantime I checked on door dash and grub hub and both stated that they were open- in my mind I would hope they'd be able to turn off ordering if they knew they would not be able to open at the stated time. I called back every hour from 7am until I finally got ahold of someone at 11:15am. I told the woman I had placed an order online this morning and when I arrived they were closed, she probably received quite a few phone calls regarding this and told me her baker had called in sick and they were having oven issues-I told her I completely understand but I would like a refund. She very abruptly told me to request it on my app. I said, what do you mean? I ordered online, she was definitley getting annoyed at this point and said well we can't do a refund you have to contact corporate. I was confused and asked how I would do that.. She said well if you don't have the app you just have to go online and contact corporate.. this whole conversation I felt like the employee was irriated/frustrated with me. I thanked her and ended the call. I immediately went online and contacted corporate within the next 20 minutes. It has been a full 5 business days since this incident, a full week since I placed my order. I'm hoping to at least receive my refund by Monday. Was it a lot of money? No. Did I expect a substitution (offering to make the order then or the next day) no, but would it have made a difference to how I'm feeling regarding this situation? Yes. I don't have any ill will regarding Einstein and I'm sure I will order from them again but I've sat on this for over a week and thought about other people or companys who may have ordered in the same time frame and wondered if anyone else had a simialr experience. I've honestly never had such bad service in any restaurant. The staff is usually slow, disorganized, and irritable. If you go here, you'll probably be ignored for a while. Very disappointed. My wife and I came here to grab a quick lunch to go on a Sunday. Though the place was not exactly busy, the staff seemed flummoxed (I can only imagine what it's like on a weekday). This caused the line at the order taking station to lengthen. When we finally reached the order station, the person really didn't seem completely engaged. At the cash register at the other end of the line, the person again asked us what we ordered (Why can't it go from one station to the next? We are in the computer age!). Then, we had to go to the middle of the line to pick it up again! The food was also disappointing (vegetarians: this is tending toward the inner circles of Hell). Note to Einstein: when you deign to offer only one vegetarian sandwich at lunch, tell your staff NOT TO PUT BACON THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE IN IT. Once disarmed of bacon, the sandwich was OK - it was moderately tasty if parsimoniously dressed with shmear. The potato salad was quite ordinary. My wife said that her sandwich was tasty. Another oddity: salt bagels (my wife wanted one on the side) were there but not on the menu. For a vegetarian, Einstein lunch food cannot stand up to competitors like Panera. Went here today with a coupon, $2 off any sandwich. I've had their Tuscan Pesto Sandwich (chicken sandwich) before and it was delicious, and it was delicious today as well. It comes on a bagel thin and is about 350 calories, which is great if you're trying to diet. Sandwich would have been a bit expensive otherwise, $4.85 plus tax (not including any drinks or sides). With the coupon it was a good deal though. I get coupons from them in the mail usually and this coupon was on a bagel I had another time. Sign up for their email list and sometimes you get offers too. Hadn't been to this location before, the parking lot is TINY and kind of hard to get into if you are coming off of Big Beaver - I had to take a left into it and luckily someone stopped and let me cut across Crooks. I consider Einsten's a notch below Panera -- definitely below Bruegger's -- so the price seems steep: more than $7 for a small coffee and bagel sandwich. However, my southwest-turkey sausage egg white bagel thin was pretty tasty. The whites were fluffy, and the thin piece of meat packed a ton of flavor. This location is always slow and dirty. I ran in here today while running some errands. Slow to make the breakfast sandwich and overcharged by the kid at the register. He was not paying any attention and ringing up whatever the hell he wanted. I caught one of his mistakes which one have been $1 extra but didn't catch another one till after I looked at the menu. He didn't seem to care. I don't come to this location because the tables are typically dirty as hell even when the staff is standing around too. I have this tradition, after my doctors appointment up the road, I always stop in for bagels and lox. I love them! I could eat a couple! I've been hunting for those bagels since we moved away. Some 43+/- years ago. Today 6/21, as a happy accident I went into this establishment. I ordered 2 bagels toasted with cream cheese and ran back out to my truck where I promptly started to unwrap my bagel. The smell was incredible...could it be? I have come here numerous times on my way to work, when I have definitely given myself a good 10-15 for a stop like this. Almost every time I end up walking out sans bagel. I don't even know why I try anymore. They are super slow and although they don't look busy it will easily take a good 15 minutes for one bagel. Even longer if you want a sandwich. Today was the last straw. I guess it's my fault for thinking it would be okay to stop here before work any day of the week... let alone a SUNDAY.
