I went to EightTwo recently. I played some arcade games and pinball. Some of the games didn't take coins. I otherwise had fun. There's a good selection of games to play. I like that the place stays open pretty late.

I have gone to this place several times in my life but no more than eight but definitely more than two. It is always a blast because of the people that you meet, even briefly. Like this one time I was playing a "vintage" teenage mutant ninja turtle arcade game with a friend and a couple approached us. One of the pair explained that they did not have much experience with the game, and I repackaged their statement with humorous understanding, "so what. you are saying is that you are dead weight." They laughed and the speaker of the two said, "exactly." I felt relief that my joke landed, or at least did not offend. For me, this is the value of the joint: A place where you can find others to romp and play with, an adult sandbox per say that lubricates fun times with alcohol and "vintage" arcade games. I use quotation marks to describe the games as vintage because some of the games were cutting edge when I was growing up (like CapCom vs. Marvels) and others were old school at the same time like PacMan and Space Invaders. So it seems wrong to group all these into the umbrella term of vintage. I think a more appropriate way to describe the arcade games at EightyTwo would be nostalgic or retro, or maybe even joy-stick driven games. This place is not, in my opinion, a local neighborhood bar. It is not a place where people will know your name, it is not a dive where you can settle and chat, in short, it is not a comfortable bar to go and relax. Instead, it is bar that aims to entertain and engage. It is bar that buzzes with sounds and blings with screens on walls. It is place where you go to enhance the night, not a place to serve as the background for a quiet night out. And again, this is true because of the nostalgic games and the people who attend the event to either play or mingle. First, I gotta focus on the people. The last time I went I played a personal favorite Bubble Bobble. Basically, you shoot marbles (bubbles) unto an accumulation of bobbles to clear them, a la Tetris. So I put my quarter in ready to play the game I purchased. Another person just stepped in and played on the other joystick. I did not know this but when you play the first round of the game, there is a split screen-- we had become rivals. He had one the game, and now he played subsequent rounds. He had taken my chance to play, with only a head up-nod, when he approached. I played again, to confirm my initial split screen theory, and indeed, one quarter allows for two players to play the first round and only one can carry on, the winner. I felt he was a little rude to take the shot against me, when he did not ask, but rather lurked for his opportunity. On another occasion, a fellow patron asked me for tokens to play Mario Versus Donkey Kong because he saw me playing it. We played for a few rounds with my tokens. Here I appreciated the shared play because I was invited into the concept that depended on my quarters. So yes there are some people that go here, not for the drinks, or to meet others, but to play the retro games. I forgot to mention up to this point that there is a room with arcade games and other rooms with pinballs. If you need a break from the arcade and pinball games, and all that comes with them, there is an ample patio that allows for escape, smoking, conversation, and relief. I love the mural of Chun Lee and Blanka. They are not engaged in mortal combat but they seem to be nearing the moment of fight on street. It was not juvenile, the mural, like the game is, it was a sophisticated take on the common battle driven narrative. I would go here on a Friday night or Saturday night to get the full effect. The bar has video game theme drinks. My favorite is the Princess Peach. But they also have other alcohols so they can likely meet most drink needs. Last time I went there was a guy wearing a shirt that read "Don't Die Without Knowing What's Out There." This was a message for me during this night, and now I share it because it might be a message you need to hear too, on the day or night, or new moon when you read this.

Fun hidden barcade gem. They have affordable drinks and can buy tokens at the bar if cashless. The DJ my night was stellar and I like the open court yard between the slot and arcade machines. Great for friends night out or dates, even solo retro enthusiast. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Restroom located in slot room. Only con, allot of the bar side no multi player arcade machines don't work. Will eat your coins. Be cautious and I hope the venue replace or fix the issues because it's more than three multi player machines broken. Still make this on your list of activities around dtla.

Bar + arcade in LA, such a fun concept! 82 is located in Arts District, but a bit non descrip so it can be easy to miss. Located on the corner of 3rd St & 4th Pl, building is a colorful artwork of purple and blues. Bar: They have alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Seating: plenty of outdoor seating to drink and chat Arcade: 2 rooms; one with various 80s arcade games including Simpsons, Ninja Turtles, Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, etc. 1 coin per play Other room has retro pinball machines. 2 coins per play you get 3 balls There's a live DJ when we went, giving it such a fun low key party vibe! Tip: there's no atm and you'll need cash to buy the coins. If you don't have cash, you can go to the bar and tell them you want to buy coins and can pay with credit card

This a fun barcade in Little Tokyo! The game prices were more affordable than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The bar here also makes drinks that are delicious and quite strong. There is a little bit for everyone here. There's a louder game area with a DJ, a quiet outdoor space, and then a back room with mostly pinball machines. The game areas can get a bit crowded, but the vibe was very courteous and not aggressive. Definitely check out EightyTwo for a fun barcade hang!

EightyTwo is a super fun barcade in DTLA with a great mix of classic and modern arcade games. The pinball selection is awesome (shoutout to the Pulp Fiction machine), and everything is well-maintained. The space has a cool industrial vibe, solid drinks, and a fun, chill crowd. Great for groups or date night. Get there early to avoid lines for the more popular games.

Do you need to show proof of vaccination still?

No there is no proof of vax

Are you required to have both vaccines or a first dose of vaccine okay?

No vax proof needed and no masks required as of March 2023

    Do you allow small dogs?

The do not. Though service dogs are legally allowed, they have denied service dog entry

Do I need a reservation for a birthday party on a Wednesday?

No reservations! It's just a bar and there isn't really that much seating on the inside. There's a nice outdoor patio in the back of the bar to hang out at and it's all just first come, first serve!

Do They give out tokens to play or do you have to exchange for coins?

Every game is operated with quarters, so bring plenty! If you don't have quarters they have a machine that exchanges bills into quarters! I've seen the line get long though, so I'd be ready with quarters before coming here.

    Do they have skee ball?

No they do not, but that would be a great idea to have at this place.

I'm full vaxxed, my girl isn't yet, can she provide a negative test to enter?

I don't think they'll allow the negative test in order to enter the establishment.

Is this place kid friendly before 9pm? I'd like to bring my 12 year old and 16 year old. Asking because it's stated as a 21 plus establishment. Thanks!

It's a 21+ only establishment as that business info gave it away, kids know it is so unfair because I found out it wasn't only bar. They serve food as well. So if this place is bar, then they would only serve alcohol so it should be for all ages.

Hi, does anyone know if this place has a food truck or serves food on saturday nights? Thanks in advance!

Three food trucks nearby on Saturdays for sure.

    Do they serve food?

    No food, only drinks !

Is it all outside? Also is this a fun place to go for New Years Eve?

It's not all outside. The video games and bar are indoors. There's two separate sections of games, connected by an outdoor patio area in the middle.

Is it a big enough space to host a birthday celebration?

Yes, it definitely is. The place is pretty much divided in half, with an open outdoor patio space in the middle. You'll have to call them for more details, but it will be a fun time.

    Is this place dog friendly?

Yes, there were dogs here during my visit

What is the best time to show up on a Saturday in order to avoid being in line?

I would say anytime before 9pm depending on how large your party is to avoid waiting in line.

    Are kids allowed?

    Unfortunately no :(

Does this place open when it is raining?

Yes it does and it is just as fun!

    Do you have time crisis?

No. They have a list of games that are currently available on their website. EightyTwo.la/games

Is this bar showing the fight tonight and if so is there a cover charge?

They do have a big screen projector but it's the show the other players fighting on the games like Street Fighter and Galaga and to answer your other questions no there is no cover charge

Is there a DJ on Sunday afternoon or only in he evenings?

    Evenings

    Do they allow hats?

Yes, when my fiancé and I went they let him in with one.

There's a big, beautiful, bar and a disco ball and it has a lot of charm since it's an older venue. Seeing a show here feels less stressful than seeing one in downtown or Hollywood. It's not my favorite venue but it's definitely a good time and more intimate than the downtown venues and free parking is always a plus.

It was all a foreign concept to me. Booking three or four or five acts in one night, charging you admission only once based on which act you came in for and most of the time if you came to the first you could stay through the 5th, or as most did, they came to see who they intended to see and maybe saw some of the act that was after and then went out to Hollywood to get some eats with their friends. Hotel Cafe is going away in 2026, but it is not gone, they will just be moving from their iconic Hollywood location, that small room that barely held 150, a small stage in the corner, a few low tables and a bar in the back to a new location in Los Angeles. It is the place where the singer-songwriter movement of the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s hard launched a revival. It's like what the Troubadour was to the Laurel Canyon singers in the 1970s. Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Greg Laswell, Priscilla Ahn, Meiko, Cary Brothers and many others. Adele even played here before her first album released in the US. I saw Sara Bareilles here once and she left everyone in tears after her song and bolted out the back door. I went to the front of the house and her family were blowing out the last of the signed copies her tour posters for only $10 since it was the last show of her tour. I bought a few. I have come here to see a friend like Big Phony sing, and then exit into the back room/lobby and see Hollywood stars entering to see their friend who would be singing next. It's that kind of local spot. The sound was always great and the drinks were well crafted and strong. I recently saw Priscilla Ahn sing here again and it brought back memories of the first time I saw her here, when she only had a 5 track EP CD. When she sang Dream again this year, it felt like everything had come full circle, since that first CD released 20 years ago. I cannot wait to see what the new building looks like, but a huge part of me, like for everyone else that has been here, will miss that little room in the back of the alley, where young dreamers became singers, where singers became stars.

Visited The Regent to see Margaret Cho host Asian Nation for Netflix Is a Joke fest…read more Parking: Located on a one-way street with several cash only $25 parking lots across from the venue (red and white signs that say Joe's Parking). The venue is located in DTLA on skid row... If you park nearby in one of the lots and stick to walking back and forth from the venue, you'll be okay. Don't recommend walking around this area especially if you're by yourself. Food: The food was scrumptious at the adjacent Prufrock Pizzeria. I would come back to this venue just to eat there beforehand. Service: It would've been nice if the venue employee was more proactive, there was a gaggle of people blocking the walkway and it took him a minute to tell them to move. After that, he just stared blankly at us after that until I asked where our assigned seats were. Ambiance: The actual venue was nice. It was intimate and you can see the performer even if you're in the back. We were on the right side towards the front, a few rows back. I appreciated that the mic level wasn't too loud even though we sat in front of the speaker; sometimes at comedy events it feels like the mic is SO LOUD that I have to wear earplugs. At this venue, the noise level was perfect.

Worst theater experience I've ever had, and I've been to all of the downtown LA venues…read more For starters, it's right on the border of Skid Row, and the zombies are creeping everywhere. The whole place smells like urine and feces because of this. They'll only let you in when "they're ready" so if you're there before showtime, they force you into some filthy bar attached to the venue (which stinks of the aforementioned body fluids). They only have one bartender, and he's surly and lousy. Then they herd you like cattle into their dumpy venue. The staff is rude, and the whole place is rundown. The acoustics are garbage. The sloping floor will make your legs ache for days. It has no vintage charm, it's just a dirty armpit. It's hot as hell, with no ventilation. Prepare to be unsafe. The security is trash- two fights broke out when I was there, and they took forever to react and hustle people out. After I finally escaped, I found that the $25 I paid to park in the lot across the street was completely useless, because a hobo broke into my car and took a dump! Hate isn't a strong enough word for The Regent. This craphole deserves to burn down.
