We were on our way back to Milwaukee from a family reunion in La crosse and wanted to buy some good Wisconsin cheese to take back to Florida. This place has a huge selection of cheeses, sausages, gifts and more. Most prices seemed reasonable and check out clerks were pleasant and efficient. A good place just off the freeway I-94 in the middle of the state of Wisconsin.

You can't visit Wisconsin without getting some cheese, so we stopped at the Cheese Chalet to partake before heading back to our side of the border. Want cheddar? What kind? Cheese curds, you say? There's a whole case! Not to mention, wine, coffee, jams and jellies, New Glarus beer from WI, and much more. Look for the giant cow. It's easy being cheesy in Wisconsin!

Love a Wisconsin cheese shop stop! The Holstein cow alongside the road invited us in. Lots of different cheese, meat sticks, local Wisconsin beers & wines, jerky found here. No samples of anything, so we only bought 4 items ( $36.73). Not the cheapest place to buy these food items-I understand that we are tourists but the sales lady was crabby not only to us but another customer as well. Next time we will head to a friendly cheese shop (and spend more money). Quality of cheeses/curds/meat jerky & sticks: 5 Cute shop & cleanliness in store: 5 Friendliness of staff: 2

While driving through Wisconsin, we decided we had to stop for some cheese. And the Cheese Chalet was great! The vast array of cheeses that were available was crazy! In the end, we stuck with the classics. The cheese curds were great-be sure to let them get to room temperature to get that squeak! They also have other items to add to a nice snack besides cheese such as some sausages. We were very pleased with the signage about covid protocols and also the sanitizer available and the staff maintaining distancing while wearing masks.

They have a huge selection of cheeses and assorted goods. The prices range from low to high depending on the age and type of cheeses purchased, but they are all high quality. The staff were attentive and helpful. I would recommend stopping here if you are traveling through!

Yup while in Wisconsin... buy cheese. Hubby asked if I still wanted cheese.. OF COURSE! Pull over. Wow lots of variety in here. Meats AND cheeses plus some crackers , booze and other things. We sampled away and ended up with: Smoked Co-Jack, smoked Provolone, Havarti and Limberger ( for me). We also snagged some beef and cheddar sticks, two landjager, some frozen apple cinnamon breakfast sausages. Doesn't that sound good???!!! Yes yes it does. We got into the vehicle and immediately ate the landjager.. wow very beefy and garlicy. They do have some pkgs in the open cheat case that I should have gotten now that we tasted them. Several in pkg for $20. Next time we will stop too!

Wanted to apologize to Ehlenbachs. I was angry at Fed X and should not have implicated Ehlenbachs. Still love Ehlenbachs products.

Food came quickly and I loved the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and tomato soup. Sandwiches come with unlimited milk and they have lots of good flavors. They also have a bunch of great local products like meats, cheeses, butter, and all of the Sassy Cow items too. I got a big bottle of maple syrup and some salami.

We all got grilled cheese variations with apples, salad and soup as sides. The chicken bacon ranch grilled cheese was overall the best. Both of the salads had rotten leaves, so best to avoid that unless you're ok picking through for good leaves. Service 5/5: the food came quickly and the staff was very friendly. Ambiance 1/5: we were very disappointed overall since they hype themselves up as an experience that includes cows. There were no cows in sight. I know during the summertime they will have baby cows, but overall to me there should be more transparency around not actually seeing cows when you visit the creamery. Other than that there is a small parking lot that can get very busy at times, but plenty of places to sit. We did love the kids playground outside but all of the bikes were broken/didn't work and the bags put away for corn hole. Overall we were really disappointed at this trip. No cows and lunch was just ok. If you are looking for a spot just for ice cream, they have amazing options and plenty of room for the kids to play, just don't tell your kids there are cows because you likely won't see any.

I made a loop around the store that started with produce, then into a very small bakery area and the hot bar/deli area, into the cold section and shelves, and finally through the frozen section. There are a lot of organic, natural, and alternative-diet food items and a wider array of veggie products than you'll encounter at a regular grocery store. I had hoped to find graham flour here, but they didn't carry it in either their bulk flours up front, nor in the baking aisle. One thing that stuck out to me is that prices are all over the place. Some things are much cheaper than you'll find them in typical grocery stores, while others are sticker-shock expensive. For example, Field Roast veggie sausages were around $5, while they go for closer to $7 at most other places around Madison. On the flip side, there was a rising crust pizza for I think $6 that I just picked up for $3.50 at another store. One thing I will say is that the vibe of the Co-op is different from any other grocer I've been to, in that it seemed like hangout spot. Lots of people were shopping in pairs with friends and chit-chatting away with each other and the staff. It's definitely got more of a community/small-town corner shop feel in that way. I have a gift card for the Co-op burning a hole in my wallet, so I'll have to pop back through again when I have more time to browse and don't have specific items in mind.
