Stopped by for breakfast/brunch when my boyfriend and I went to CT for an off-the-grid weekend. We drove about 4 miles for breakfast and I'm sure glad we did! At first, it felt a bit awkward since everyone knew each other (it's a good thing!), we were obviously not from around there. The place is ran by a family and they made us feel comfortable. We were supposed to go back the day we left the CT but we didn't have time! (SORRY!) They have a good menu but I went for the Brunch Plate. I agree with some of the comments. I was a regular on Saturday's when they 1st opened. I enjoyed the food and was cool with the on the spot but not necessarily friendly service. Until I brought my family and in laws in for breakfast,a total of 6 people. Because I was a regular, over-tipped and loyal (support local) I assumed wouldn't be a big deal to move a table to accommodate my family BUT NO they wouldn't do it. Keep in mind there were tables available and they easily could have accommodated the 6 of us. They told us to wait but I left with my family and went to Newtown deli to get some breakfast sandwiches. This place will continue to do well because food is and not a ton of spots in town but I haven't been back since. Treating loyal customers is important. read more

Met a friend here for breakfast. John was very friendly and welcoming with a great sense of humor. We both had the eggs Benedict which were nothing short of amazing. Everything is cooked fresh so we waited a bit for our food but we were in no rush. Definitely worth the wait! Probably not the best choice if you're looking to grab something quick. read more

Food is fine for breakfast, but the staff/ownership is not accommodating at all. Visit 1: claimed they made their own sriracha mayo. We asked for a side of just the sriracha for our breakfast sandwich--they said they couldn't do that and that they didn't have sriracha (????). During the visit we asked for another sight change to our order and they wouldn't accommodate. Visit 2: They wouldn't put together tables to accommodate a larger group (4 adults and three kids) when there was clearly room (and empty tables) to do so-- we left. Not a friendly place. read more

The service is terrible. Got seated right away, only to have to sit and wait for 15 minutes until we could flag down another waiter to get our server so we could at least order a cup of coffee. We finally place order our drinks and are also ready to order food too since we have had ample time to review the menu, but the waitress said she couldn't take our order because she did not have her ipad with her. She comes back a few minutes later and we order our pancakes and french toast. After 25-30 minutes of waiting for our food, my friend had to flag down the waitress again and asked, "Hi, how are our pancakes coming along?" She looked at us perplexed, as if we were speaking a different language. She said reluctantly, "Uh, I guess I could go check on them for you", and we said, yes please as it has been a while. We finally get our food and then the owner comes over to our table, with the waitress behind him. We are thinking he is going to apologize for the wait. NOPE. He proceeds to yells at us in a loud, obnoxious, sarcastic voice saying "My waitress tells me you are complaining about the wait time for the food? Well we need to cook the food, ladies, Ok? So food has to cook, and that takes time so that's what happens ladies, you need to learn patience!" Wow. We never complained, we merely inquired about the status of our meal. Then he came back up to us again up front when we were paying yelling the same things, and when I tried to calmly explain we had been waiting 15 min before anyone even came over to our table - he says, "REALLY? REALLY? 15 MINUTES? I find that VERY hard to believe that you waited 15 minutes... what do you want us to do, serve you the minute you walk in?!" Wow again. Perhaps if he spent more time cooking instead coming out to verbally abuse his customers, the food wouldn't take so long!! Maybe he should also read his own YELP reviews about himself and the customer service of his wait staff. But I guess he doesn't want to any feedback or to fix anything with his business. If he keeps treating his customers like this, he won't have a business. Don't waste your money here, there are plenty of other breakfast establishments in the area that are happy to have you as a customer, unlike this place. read more

I don't think I have ever had a worse experience in a restaurant. We were seated, then we waited, and waited, then about 5 minutes go by another couple were seated after us, the server, comes over to their table taking their order by passing us. Menus were on or table suggesting we have not placed our order yet. After another 6 - 7 minutes, we were JUST about to leave when she came over. We asked for water, she left to get it, then got distracted, yeah our water never came, I had to get up and ask someone else. The woman that brought the water commented on how busy they were. We were one of five tables. The restaurant wasn't even a quarter full. Not once did she come over to see if we needed anything or ask how our meal was. She never came back! Cute little breakfast spot in a little strip side of Newtown offering both table and counter service with a nice breakfast and lunch menu. Excellent prices to go with some great creative choices with some serious flavor. Personally, this place is far better than kings. Another mom and P.O. shop run by family who take great pride in what they do and how they do it. I love their eggs Benedict's and the hollandaise sauce is creamy has perfect balance of lemon and butter. Great variety of flavor coffees and they always make fresh pots. Great breakfast spot but tough to cater to big parties. As of last weekend (March 25) they were about to update the place so check to see if re-opened...they were losing for a minimum amount of days. After ordering takeout from this wonderful place many time - finally writing the review I've been meaning to since after eating From here the first time. Probably the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had (the "chick'n tater") and I order it every chance I get - girlfriend gets the same or other, and I don't think we have had better tasting breakfast food anywhere else to be completely honest. It's savory and delicious and what people need in a breakfast place. Prices are fair and would pay more if need be, the staff is always smiling and more friendly than 98% of the places you go in CT. Wish i had more time to write more because I could go all day - even if we moved I would hope this place stays open to keep serving its delicious food and demeanor to the rest of the community. We've been coming here for years... food quality has never wavered and always exceptional. My son and daughter also love coming here with me and turned into a regular outing. We missed going here during COVID and am glad the doors are still open! The family dynamic is very similar to my own growing up-- so it feels like home every time I go. The other reviewers comments about "yelling" are understandable I guess -- especially if you haven't been exposed to this type of interaction -- but from one similar family to another, these are terms of endearment. read more

Pros: the food. Very very well cooked and delicious. The French toast sandwich was ingenious. It was in the old subway and the decor is still up which I found super funny and cute because you'd never realize it u less you were truly looking for it. Cons: coffee tasted a little burnt. People there were insane. We walked in to see the owner screaming at the customers and his waitress (which made me feel so bad for the poor girl) and I understand the order was wrong and you don't want to waste food but it was eggs and those are like $0.10 a piece or less when ordered in bulk. Having that be the first impression kind of turned us off but we decided to give it a try and honestly there wasn't something that made this place stand out from any other breakfast place. I know it can be stressful and hard working in the retail/food industry so I understand the want to yell at someone but I was kind of shocked the ladies didn't get up and leave right after. Sunday is most definitely a busy breakfast day. However on Father's Day you expect even more people. Unfortunately they were not prepared at all. The process of seating was not streamlined and when we were seated we watched as others (who came in after) ordered their drinks and ordered were taken. That is up there on the list of annoying behaviors. We finally were asked about drinks by one server while another came up (and he was very unhappy) took our order. I went to purchase a breakfast meal and was unaware of their protocol in an COVID environment. I really hate to write a review like this on one of my hometown businesses but feel a civic responsibility to do so. Although the food is really outstanding, the owner is EXTREMELY abrasive, argumentative, and volatile! Though I lack insight into his individual plight (and feel empathy for what ever that is), he a person that could easily provoke a major confrontation with a totally innocent person. Today he went on a rant about the hypocrisy of a local politician not wearing masks (he failed to wear his own) while repeatedly saying "Goddamn" this and "Goddamn" that. I tried to appease him by suggesting he should "light a candle in the darkness" as he continued the rant. When I asked him how I should pay (cash or credit) he said "just give me the money, I don't care how". When I showed a little confusion about sliding the card or using the chip he said, "You are a teacher, you should know how to do this". At that point I was actually proud of myself for maintaining my own composure. Needless to say, I'm certainly not going there again and I advise any reader of this review to be forewarned... I should have read the Katie P review of 8/28/2020 because she basically foretold my own experience today! read more

My daughter, grandson, his bride and I went to Egg & Co for breakfast last weekend....All I can say is it was the best breakfast I have ever had at any restaurant I have ever gone to. I ordered an omelet with avocado, bacon, baby spinach, tomato...and I cannot remember what else in it....the best I have ever eaten...served with home fried potatoes and I chose rye toast that had a lot of caraway seeds....the omelet was so big I had to take some of it home for a snack later....everyone else loved their meals as well. Coffee was fresh and hot. The owner is the chef and it is a family run and staffed restaurant. I would recommend this small, clean, comfortable place for breakfast and lunch for anyone who is in the Newtown CT area and wants a great meal. read more

This is late but I never shared on yelp and people need to hear this. They refused our party of 10 on a Sunday morning several months ago. We called ahead but they didn't answer and told us when we got there that they can't seat that large of a party. We told them we would be open to splitting up into 3 or 4 tables (mind you the restaurant had an empty table of 8 and about 15 other small empty tables) they told us no. (We had 6 adults and 4 children for the record.) They told us we should have called. We told them we did and they said "well, we are busy." There were about 10 people sitting down at the restaurant. Not sure what would be different than having 3 parties of 3 walking in, but they refused to seat us and that is unacceptable. They also raised their voices at us when we told them we would gladly split the party up. There is absolutely no reasonable explanation for this as the restaurant was pretty empty. I don't care how good your food may be, customer service is equally important. I will be sharing this unacceptable behavior with others and make sure I discourage as many people as possible from supporting such a business. Service ALWAYS WINS. read more

Server was not very pleasant and actually yelled at us for getting up to ask for a refill on coffee. We finished breakfast and were disappointed with the overall texture of the food. Everything came out very greasy. The home fries were brown and burnt and the omelettes all dripped butter when served. Our service was also disappointing. One member of our party ordered rye toast while the other members ordered wheat. When breakfast was served all toast came out as wheat. When we pointed out the mistake to the waiter his response was not, to immediately correct it. He denied rye toast had been ordered with a dismissive tone. Then he followed it up with an insincere offer to change out the wheat for Rye but by that point the attitude and the response, "No, you ordered wheat" had left an unfortunate impression. In most cases basic customer service rules outline that the customer is always right. It would have been easy and preferable for him to offer politely to change the toast and ask if everything else was ok with our order but he was more concerned with trying to deny a mistake had been made. Not sure I would recommend this establishment if their wait staff is not able to learn better customer service skills. read more

Cute little place. We were originally headed to King's but they were closed for the week for vacation. So we decided to look around for another breakfast/lunch nearby and that's when we found Eggs & Co. The inside is extremely nice and looks very new and clean. Dining area is a bit small but we came towards the later end of brunch so we had no issues getting a table. Menu is a decent size for a diner. Food was solid. I had the salsa veggie omelette which was delicious and my wife just had a simple two eggs with bacon and toast. Server was nice also. Only thing that was weird is for the veggie omelette I asked if I could have roasted red peppers instead of green and the server said it would be too complicated to order so I couldn't order it that way. We decided to try this place again since our first visit was awful. I'm sorry to say that although the menu contains a dazzling array of options, the curt staff, the too-loud-obnoxious-music, the glaring overhead fluorescent lights, make for an unpleasant experience. The food was not hot, took a long time to arrive, and there was only one or two other tables with guests. The meal must have sat around for a time before we got it. The waffle was so cool the butter wouldn't melt and when we asked to heat it up the waitress says it was our fault because it sat on our table too long. Rude!
