Just purchased a Terani evening gown from Effies. Extremely pleased with the selection and the service. Inna was exceptional. I also purchased earrings there. The two issues I did have were that while I was trying on gowns, an older man was walking around the store. I was told he was the owner. I had to be more careful than if the store just had women in it. I also didn't like that the door did not have a buzzer system. A disheveled looking women walked in off the street looking for a lawyers office. A little more security would deter undesirables from walking in and out while women are trying on gowns. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I walked in at 6:45pm just to see some dresses. I didn't even ask for assistance because I was literally just looking. There was another girl there trying on a dress with two other people. The young store employee walks by me, I said hi and she tells me "we're closing now" I asked "so I can't look?" & she said "no were cleaning up" Mind you the store closes at 7pm. That was by far the most unprofessional and nastiest approach from a store employee I have ever experienced. I was very disappointed with the service!! first of I don't know if that day when we went it just so happens that the employees were over worked or something because the girl we got to help us her attitude was just blah she was not helpful in helping us find the right prom dress for my daughter she had an attitude that didn't make you want to by anything. After years of loyalty--NEVER AGAIN My mother came here for a mother of the bride dress, and the sales lady was BEYOND rude. My mother isn't flashy so the lady assumed she didn't have a lot of money, meanwhile her budget was $3,000. She made my mother go through a rack jam packed with dresses, and chastised my mom who asked for help when she couldn't pull dresses out to see (my mom has carpal tunnel syndrome so she can't grab and pull things easily). She then INSISTED that my mother try a dress "perfect for her" in a size 7- my mom is a 12/14. My mother eventually gave in to trying it on since the woman was so insistent and when it clearly wouldn't fit my mom she ask my mother why she wasted her time trying a dress on that she wasn't going to buy!! My mother left so upset, being mocked and fat shamed by the sales associate here who clearly treated her like this thinking she didn't have any money. The worst part is my family been going here for years for formal event attire, and now not a single member of my family will step foot in there again. read more

I came to Effie's boutique based off a recommendation from a friend at work. I'm so happy I did! I had visited a prior boutique first, not going to name no names (coughs) Nile boutique lol poor costumer service, please don't go there! However as soon as I walked into Effie's we were greeted and was helped by the amazing Pina I believe her name was. My mother in law and I were looking for dresses to attend a wedding in two weeks and Pina helped my mother in law find the most beautiful dress and assisted her into the dress as well. Effies claims they put it on their website so other students and Effies can show no one else had it. As soon as I walked in I felt the cold shoulders and the stares, probably because I just came from the gym and had my sweats on, hair a mess and I was not wearing any designer fancy clothes with all of my diamonds on. I'm Shopping for a gown for my sons wedding. I was referred to Effie's.. I had an appointment for 4:30. I had a large window after another appointment so I called and asked if it was possible to come in a little earlier, as I don't live in Brooklyn.. I was told they were too busy. Definitely Understandable. When I arrived the store was empty.. The staff was not welcoming at all. In fact they were outright rude. I was asked what I was interested in. I explained what I liked but I wasn't totally sure and the salesperson told me they don't carry the designers I was looking for.. (My ideas were higher end) You would think I'd be shown some designs with the same idea. Instead I was told to look through the hundreds of dresses. If you know the store, its impossible to see the dresses through the bags. She didn't even show me a to a section or even 1 dress. There are hundreds of dresses very tightly hung. After a civilized attempt at resolving a situation involving unscrupulous business practices, I received a response from this establishment packed with lies and defamatory allegations. This has now become a matter for Small Claims Court. It is important that we stand up for ourselves as consumers. I was never able to purchase anything from this store but I warn younger/short shoppers that they are plain rude. They probably mistook me for a 12-year-old play dress up because if they didn't their attitude needs to change. I walked into the store going to buy a dress for a military ball and I was flat out asked to leave. I don't argue but for me, it was embarrassing to be asked to leave when shopping with my friend from out of town. I had my first experience at Effie's today and unfortunately it will be my only experience there. I called the boutique yesterday with a list of style numbers, the guy I spoke with told me they had 2 out of the 6 I gave him and while he was speaking to me I heard a person in the background gruffly say they had 2000 dresses in stock. I decided I should go to the store to check out this inventory. We've been searching for the perfect bridal party dresses for a little while and I figured with 2000 dresses, surely I could find the dresses here. I got there and the saleswoman greeted me, asked if I needed assistance and we went from there. I immediately pointed to a dress I had called about. She asked if that would work for a bridesmaids dress considering the price. I said yes, that's our budget. I showed her a few dresses from pinterest and she picked out a bunch for me to try on. First dress, I take out my phone so she can take a picture that I can send to my Mother and sister (the bride). She tells me NO PICTURES ALLOWED. I was shopping alone and not being able to take pictures definitely made things a little difficult. The dresses were great but none were THE dress and I hadn't tried on anything I had gone to the store to see. I got dressed and browsed the rest of the store and picked out the dresses that fit what we were looking for. An older saleswoman began rushing me and instructed me to start trying on dresses. Um, ok. Not sure why she was rushing me but I obliged, certain one of these dresses would be the one. I tried on the first dress and walked out, she said I know you are looking for dresses for a bridal party but there is a limit on the number of dresses you can try on. REALLY?!! She says pick which one of these you want to try on because it is your last one. Yep. Just like that, I was dressed and out of the store. I had no desire to continue shopping at a place that could be so rude and disrespectful. Oh and there were a total of 4 other customers in the store the entire time I was there. The limit on dresses seemed like a new policy that only seemed to apply to me. So me and my $5000 dress budget walked out of the door never to step foot in Effie's Boutique again. DO NOT GO HERE! I came in for a prom dress and the lady said I could not try anything on because if I ripped the dress I had to buy it. The when asked for my size the woman rolled her eyes at me, it made me feel very hurt and ashamed. The final straw was when I told the woman my budget was $400 and she said, " you can't afford this store then." Excuse me if i don't want to spend $800 on a dress I am only going to wear one night, this is very insensitive to say to a possible buyer. This is not how a customer or a person should be treated! My daughter and I went to Effie's Boutique while on a weekend away in NYC just before Christmas. We were shopping for a prom dress and are we ever glad we found Effies at random on-line! We were the only customer's in the store at the time and had top notch service from both of the sales staff there. My daughter was treated like a princess during the entire experience and when they found out we were Canadian, offered to ship the dress to our home for no extra charge! The complimentary earrings we were given were the icing on the cake for a truly great prom shopping experience. Despite the review noted below about pictures, we were allowed to take a picture of the dress we selected to show the rest of the family at home, although it was on the hanger and not on my daughter at the time. I completely understand the policy, these are designer dresses and should not be duplicated! Once we left the store, they stayed in contact by both phone and email and the dress arrived at our home yesterday in perfect condition, just like they promised! The only drawback on the whole experience is that we went way over budget for the dress, but the experience for my graduating 17 year old was truly priceless! I heard about Effie's on Instagram and really liked their stuff from what I saw. I decided to go here with my bridesmaids to look at that they had to offer. What a horrible experience. When we walked in I let one of the girls know what we were looking for; the style, color, etc. then another girl said "this is not a bridesmaids store". Well, I knew that but I was willing to see what they had to offer us. She then proceeds to tell me to go online and look at what they have, "Do my homework" and then come back. Hmm. Well I didn't want to go all the way home to do my "homework" and come back; she had no idea where we traveled from. We wanted help at that moment! From what I saw, they didn't want to put in the work and they were not helpful at all. They asked me what I was looking for and then basically told me they didn't want to help look for it. They lost out on a huge sale because we found our dresses at another boutique which had the same dresses Effie's did.
