I used to like this company and their technicians. What has changed? Efficiency installed a new Bryant Air conditioner three years ago and it is still under warranty. The air conditioner does not work and cool the house consistently. It is frequently taking rest breaks. Efficiency has been to the house with their regular techs, co worker techs, managers, and even Bryant reps. I have been charged about $3000 for warranty repairs and I still have an air conditioner that works only when it wants to. They hooked up sensors to see if they could find a problem but the app quit and they tell me now that the sensors they put on may have caused a leak. Sounds like good work guys. I am sure there are better companies out there. Go find them. read more

Effeciency saved my butt again. There team is timely, skilled, and friendly. My furnace wouldn't start, they got me running same day. I highly recommend. read more

We had them install a new furnace and heat pump a little over a year ago. It mostly went fine, except for a few things: the techs were here for two days to install it and on the first day they left by 3:30 pm, which meant on the second day, they were here until 9 pm. They forgot to flip a switch on the furnace, so the first time it got below 30 degrees outside, we had no heat for a night. When the tech came the next morning, I had to show him how our smart thermostat works (and he offered me a job). All of that was whatever - these places aren't perfect. But here's the thing I can't forgive: We finally scheduled our free maintenance tune up and I met the tech, Meredith, as she was coming out of her van. I heard her coughing and hoped it was a one-time thing. I brought her into my house and she was audibly sniffling and so I asked her if she was getting a cold. She assured me it was "just allergies" from my cats even though it started before she got in the house. Lo and behold, it's a few days later and I now have the cold she claimed not to have (let's hope it's just a cold). In retrospect I should have asked her to wear a mask in the house, but I trusted her that she would "never go on a call if she was sick." I was polite as she stood in my dining room loudly trying to sell me things I had already declined and after she left I received two emails with quotes of things I hadn't agreed to, one of which she never even mentioned. I can forgive a lot, but getting me sick crosses the line. It's irresponsible. read more

I had Efficiency come out again for my annual furnace inspection and tune up. Meredith was the technician who showed up during the two hour proper window appointment. Meredith was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I continue to have great experiences with Efficiency and they make recommendations, but no hard selling. I appreciate this service and am more likely to use them over other companies, since they don't force extras and waste money for their customers. Thank you and I'll have you return in the spring for the AC tune up. read more

Efficiency restored my faith in, well...not quite humanity, but in HVAC humanity. Leading up to this, we were ripped off by Company 1, who quoted a $700 logic board replacement in August, and installed it in our unit that was rusted and leaking CO. And Company 2 (the one offering a "free furnace if it snows on Xmas" or some crap like that) was happy to promise us a new furnace in a week, have us sign for a loan, and then ghosted us. I called all over town. No one had a furnace and I was being told I would have to wait from Oct -- Jan to hopefully get a furnace install. Four months with no heat?!? The Efficiency receptionist was empathic, listened, and commiserated with me on my furnace woes. Then she got to work, moving schedules around to get me a quick estimate, and 2 weeks later, we have heat!!! One of the nicest touches about this place, they text you to remind you of your service. Then they text you an introduction to who will be coming to your home, including the technician's picture and a little bit about them. And a GPS tracker to chart their little truck's progress to your house. Super classy, and it put me at ease. Everyone was on time, super personable. When the install ran a little long with retrofitting electrical, it was of no concern to the crew. They kept working and stayed at it 12 hours until the job was done. Then the tech took the time to show us what he did, test everything, and even stuck around to ask us if we had any questions. No doubt about it, Efficiency has customer service DIALED IN. I am so glad to have stumbled upon this company, and they've got a customer for life now. Thank you!!! read more

We've used them for several years. They always come through with great service. Just had our annual furnace and heat pump service. They were professional on the phone and were able to schedule us in the same week. Oscar showed up a few minutes early. Wore shoe covers. Our air conditioning compressor stopped following a power surge in the evening (denied by PGE!). When power was restored, the compressor sounded terrible. Efficiency Heating was one of 3 companies I called, and they were the only company who was able to send someone the next day. Shannon was sympathetic to our plight, since the infamous "heat dome" had struck Portland two weeks prior. Jim came the next day as promised and was kind, thoughtful, and extremely thorough. We were so impressed with his knowledge and diligence that we purchased an annual service plan on the spot - which saved us the service call fee. Can't recommend these folks highly enough. Found them thanks to high recommendation through friends, thank goodness. read more

I cannot be more thankful that we came across this company. Our heating and air at work has been out for about 6 months. It is difficult to get appointments with companies at the moment. We had another company that came in and charged us $700 for 2 hours just to look at it and to tell us which parts needed to be replaced. Our owner called efficiency heating and cooling and they were able to come in and fixed the issue within about an hour. The issue was maintenance.. No parts needed to be replaced. The guy was knowledgeable and quick. Highly recommend! read more

We lost a/c when the first heat wVe hit. Home warranty folks were no help. These people came right out and worked with the warranty to to get approval and got our a/c back. Three weeks later the system failed again. The same guy came out during record heat, inn two days. Trae arrived early, diagnosed, got approval and repaired. We love Trae. read more

Would hope they have the same service to the next client. Unfortunate I no longer live in town to use them.

Had two other hvac companies fail to get our zoned heat pump working correctly (including the one who installed it...with incompatible dampers...ugh). Finally got these folks out and they debugged a number of wiring issues and finally got the right hardware installed to make things work. It's so hard to find a knowledgable hvac outfit in this town but these folks are the real deal. Trae knows his stuff about Bryant/Carrier systems. Thankful we finally found them. read more

Great service | Recommended We got our unit installed earlier this summer right before we had a heat wave, and it was such a good idea. We were able to schedule someone to come out and give us a quote pretty quickly. Jason was professional and friendly. He didn't come off as a pushy salesman either, which is something we really liked. There was a slight schedule mixup for them to install the unit, but overall we had a pleasant experience with this company. The unit was installed in 4 - 5 hours and everything worked perfectly. read more

We've had 2 fantastic experiences with Efficiency. When we wanted to replace our furnace, they really impressed us with their customer service and knowledge just getting the estimate. We had them install it and it was a smooth and easy experience. A few months later we had a minor issue with a part. They were very quick to get someone out here and fixed it within the warranty. read more

This was the first time that I had called upon Efficiency to work on my HVAC system, after my previous service provider stopped working on residential HVAC. My experience with Efficiency has been outstanding! Colleen scheduled the appointment very promptly and graciously, and Jim was a superb service technician - honest, knowledgeable, careful, and polite. The price for the service was very fair, and I feel confident that eEfficiency will come to my aid if I need them before my next regular maintenance. I chose this company because they had been so highly reviewed on Yelp, and their service completely fulfilled my high expectations! read more

Last summer I had Efficiency out to service my furnace and air conditioner. They diagnosed that the furnace needed replacing and the AC was on its last legs. I hired them to replace the furnace, which they did. Something happened with the AC, and I called them again. The service person who came did not realize his company had supposedly cleaned and serviced the AC recently, and he commented that it was apparent that I had not had the filter cleaned or the AC serviced for years. When I called the company to complain, the owner was out of town supposedly. He never returned my call. Jump to this summer, and the AC is kaput. Called a different company, and the service person asked me if Efficiency had explained to me that if I didn't replace the AC at the same time as the furnace, the furnace would need to be removed to hook up the new AC- an additional $750! Looks like Efficiency just assumed I'd have them do the AC eventually and they'd make extra $$$. Shady all around. read more

Quality work, Great technicians. Normal prices (High prices in PDX, for some reason techs in PDX.... lecture that your Furnace is as complex as a Nasa Space craft) Don't expect them to jump at warranty work, unless they can make a killing on the Labor. I considered a new furnace as well, The Efficiency Salesman quoted me a price, I edged him down to planet earth with a fair price. He shook my hand , smiled , said he would email me a contract, never heard from him again. I guess ... Hand shakes don't mean anything ? I moved on ended up repairing my 9 year old $7200 carrier infinity 96. My Secondary exchanger rusted out after 9 years (there was a class action suit in Seattle turns out) I got 4 quotes , Efficiency was the Highest @ $1600. Ended up costing $480 from independent HVAC Guy. My advice get multiple estimates read more

We had AC added to our current heating system and had a very positive experience. I had Efficiency Heating & Cooling replace our furnace four years ago -- they did a great job and I felt like, a good value with their recommendations. Recently, our heat pump stopped working, so I gave them a call. Turned out it needed a capacitor replacement, which was about 10-20 times cheaper than a new heat pump. The tech fixed it in half an hour. I really appreciate the honesty, expertise, and value, and can absolutely recommend. read more

We have been using this company for 8 years and over the last two years service has gone way downhill. Called them to come out because our heater condenser hose froze up outside during the ice storm causing our furnace to shut down. Dietrich Hart came out and gave us one story and told us that it would be $1750 plus $169 to assess the furnace and said there wasn't much he could do until it thawed out and had us turn off the breaker. When he came out to do the repairs he told us the doors had fallen off, it was installed incorrectly and there was no back on the furnace. When I asked him why in 8 years none of the other service technicians had ever mentioned it before he said he was detailed oriented unlike the other technicians. He was setting us up for much more than the $1750. We asked him to leave because his story kept changing and could not trust what he was saying. The very next day Synergy Heating & Air came out and checked out the furnace and everything was fine and only charged us $149 for a service fee. He explained once the tube had thawed out everything would be fine. The furnace is working perfectly. BEWARE of this company and particularly this technician. read more

Upgrading my review to four stars. Jason and Doug came out to inspect my equipment and made a few adjustments after their Bryant reps were in town and gave them a few ideas of what might be going on with my unit. Unfortunately, the issues with the Bryant system persist, but they are awesome people and I wouldn't hesitate to go to them for heating or cooling needs. I would still not have gotten the Bryant system had I known it would be so disruptive to my sleep, but as far as customer service goes, Efficiency is one of the best. read more

Oscar came out to perform seasonal maintenance on my furnace. He was prompt, listened to concerns, courteous, knowledgable, and even eliminated an irritating buzz that I had thought was just part of the system. Office staff, too, was pleasant and listened. I wholeheartedly recommend. read more

If possible I would give them less than one star. We are a general contractor and a client of ours was without heat during the winter and needed to find an HVAC company to install a new furnace and prep for AC. This client's home is in the Portland metro area and is less than 1500 (including the addition we are putting on). Efficiency Heating and Cooling was the only company in town that could accommodate their install and our clients financed over $30,000 to have a FURNACE system installed. In May they turned on their AC and it did not work. The person taking the service call asked if the AC had been wired yet and the homeowner said NO. Efficiency Heating and Cooling told the homeowner they'd send someone out to look at it. The technician that was sent determined that the electrical needed to be hooked up to condenser and charged the homeowner $180 service fee. The homeowner then reached out to our company as we have been working on their home remodel/addition for advice. Although it is not in our scope of work, the owner of our company reached out to Mathew in Operations at Efficiency Heating and Cooling to extend his displeasure in hearing that one of our customers who paid an exorbitant amount to begin with to have a furnace in stalled was being charged another $180. We hoped that once management heard of the miscommunication that they'd offer a credit. They did not offer a credit, they instead explained that their corporation is in the business of making money. I have included the email that Mathew in Operations wrote to Brent's response which was "this invoice is bullshit": "Brent I understand your frustrations or even some concerns you may have. But it cost us money to send someone out to verify that you did not manage your electricians properly to ensure they did their portion of the job. You don't work for free so you can not expect others to do so this is a very unprofessional response towards us. It's a shame that you're this upset, in reality your electricians are the ones who should have fully completed their work order and you should have verified it was done as the general contractor on this project. The vulgarness and disrespect that's displayed in your response to that invoice will not be tolerated by Efficiency Heating & Cooling. We stand by our work and most importantly stand by our employees and our customers. Do right be CustomerName and finish the contract the you supplied to her with the electrical portion of this job." (in context to this email, the homeowners took a loan out through Efficiency Heating and Cooling for over $30K and chose not to have an electrician out to hook up the ac condenser unit at the time. This was during the winter and the ac was in use anyway and is optional to save the expense until the ac is needed) As a business owner in the Portland Metro area how WE would have handled this is to either had a qualifying conversation over the phone as to what the WARRANTY call could be to save a trip. If this was a Pro Fleet NW customer we would have a record of work done and have an idea of what to ask to qualify the proper way to handle the service call. A warranty call on a $30,000 + install would have been no charge and if I asked the customer if the power had been ran and they said NO then I would tell them that if we come out and find that the power is the issue then there would be a charge. We would have at least made it clear that our time will cost. The homeowner felt that this was not communicated. AGAIN, as a business owner/operator we understand that customers may not always recall what was communicated to them during an initial phone call. However Mathews email is very clearly placing blame on our company who does not do HVAC and was not in charge of managing the HVAC installation besides connecting the homeowners to the electrician we were already working with on their home for the remodel/addition. At this time Efficiency Heating and Cooling has adamantly refused to refund the homeowner's original $180 service call fee. The electrician has hooked up to their condenser/ac system and it still does not work. They now have told the homeowner that they will charge ANOTHER fee for the return trip on the system that they installed unless they can prove that it was their fault it is not working. As a general contractor who also owns a service based business I will NEVER EVER EVER use or refer this company out to even my worst enemy. We will be crediting our invoice $180 because we value repeat customers over large ticket sales and then repeat service tickets and making customer go through hoops to get a call covered under warranty while trying to blame or make other contractor or trade professionals look bad. Efficiency Heating and Cooling, keep doing what you're doing. The boom will stop and you will have no repeat service clients because of how you've treated them during your busy season. read more

Furnance wouldnt heat up called Efficiency came the next day got it working again and cleaned. Great tech, good prices and, good service!

We recently worked with Efficiency Heating & Cooling to install a new AC unit for our home, and we were thrilled with the result! They provided a very reasonable quote, and friendly service. Both Jason, who gave us the estimate, and Walter, who performed most of the installation were very professional, and patiently answered all of our questions. The furnace in our home was built low to the ground, so Walter and his team raised the furnace from the ground, installed the coils beneath it, and installed a new Bryant air conditioner in our backyard. The work was all completed in a single day, and a county inspector came out just a few days later for the final review. We couldn't be more pleased with their work, and would happily recommend their services. read more

A company I can always count! They were referred by a friend to install an AC a few years ago. We didn't know what kind of unit would cover our space and would've bought whatever was recommended by a company, Matt did not oversell us and said we don't need such a large unit as we thought. It was refreshing to be treated fair and honest with! Since then I've recommended them to a few of my friends, every one of them is very satisfied with their work! read more

We recently purchased a home and the A/C went out during a super hot spell. Efficiency was able to fit in an appointment for us super quick and they even arrived on time (very impressive considering it was a late afternoon appointment!). Matt was super knowledgeable and gave us some tips for keeping our unit running without breaking the bank (service call, a new filter, diagnostic report, etc. and we came out owing less than $200 bucks! whew!). I will definitely be scheduling my regular A/C and furnace maintenance with Efficiency :) read more

We recently decided to replace our 20 year old furnace with a new one and add air conditioning. These guys were great through the whole process. The estimate was thorough and detailed. They went over what we wanted out of our system, and explained how each of several potential options compared to each other to meet our needs. Very knowledgeable about their product and the industry as a whole. The person who we dealt with was very nice about making sure we were aware of, and offered, any and all options, but I never felt like he was selling me. I always felt like he was offering options just in case one of them was something I really wanted. He even pointed out, several times, things that were options but he suggested not doing them because the cost to benefit was low. Install was a big job because my garage has fairly low ceilings and the furnace is buried in a corner by the water heater. But they got the whole thing torn out. New furnace installed and new A/C installed in one day. It was a long day (8am-6pm), but they got it all done and even set up the thermostat and made sure I knew how to use it and how to get the app for my iPhone to use if I wanted it. They even did a custom fab job on site to make a nice filter box so changing my filter could be done quickly and easily. This company was recommended to me by my brother, who had used them before, and now I have to recommend them to anyone looking for new install or HVAC service. What a great group of guys to deal with. I rarely give five stars but I feel like this company earned it. Keep it up! read more

Well the reviews were right! We had some issues with the furnace starting, so it seemed time to get some work done. These guys were great. Richard (I think) came out and spent about 1.5 hrs cleaning up our furnace. His notes were very detailed in terms of what he checked, cleaned, etc. As a mechanical engineer, I could tell from our conversation that he knew what he was doing and the results definitely showed. Luckily in the end, we didnt have any major issues, but he did make some pointed suggestions, didnt try to sell me junk, and was a very clear communicator. Very pleased and will definitely have these guys do regular maintenance (and suggest to others). read more

I called several places before I reached an super nice girl this morning who was great in explaining what the service tech will do on a furnace inspection and she gave us a great Yelp deal! I felt I could trust their pricing since other places would say a price for the first 30 minutes, then the amount goes up. I was not comfortable with that at all. She was way friendlier than any other place I called and helpful. She was able to get a tech out today since we lived close by which was cool.
