Bubble tea
Alex C.

I stopped by Edo Japan recently to take advantage of their summer special on bubble tea--$3 is a steal, so I had to give it a try! The environment here is really inviting, with an open-concept layout and tons of wood accents that give it a sleek, Japanese-inspired vibe. The interior design feels authentic and clean, which made me excited to check out their offerings. I snapped a quick pic of my bubble tea (check it out!), and the presentation was decent, but the experience didn't quite live up to the hype. Before ordering, I asked about their tapioca to make sure it's fresh--always a must for me with bubble tea. The staff was super transparent and said they cook it fresh daily, tossing out any expired batches and making new ones as needed. Big points for that! But I was kinda bummed to learn they don't let you adjust the sugar or ice levels. Apparently, the milk tea comes pre-sweetened, and if you want less sugar, they have to manually note it since it's not a standard option. That felt a bit rigid for a bubble tea spot, especially compared to other places where customization is king. I got the bubble tea, and while it looked okay, the taste was just... off. I can't quite put my finger on it--maybe it's not real tea or something about the flavor mix wasn't right. It didn't have that smooth, satisfying tea vibe I'm used to. Something is just off... I got the Brown Sugar bubble tea. The tapioca was okay, decently chewy, but nothing special. I've had way better pearls at bigger bubble tea franchises, where they nail that perfect bounce and texture. For $3, I'm not mad I tried it, but it didn't wow me, and I probably wouldn't order it again. The staff was friendly and quick, which I appreciated, and the overall vibe of the place is great for grabbing a quick bite or drink. They've got that Japanese fast-casual thing down, and I might come back to try their food, but the bubble tea didn't hit the mark for me. I'm giving Edo Japan 2 out of 5 stars. The $3 summer special is a great deal, and I love the fresh tapioca and the cool, woody interior. But the lack of customization and the weird tea flavor held it back. It's a solid spot for a casual meal, but if you're a bubble tea fanatic like me, you might want to stick to the big-name spots for your fix. Still, I'm glad I gave it a shot!

Stopped by here while my friend was getting food next door but I wasn't hungry and didn't see any drinks I liked. Saw the ad for the bubble tea and thought it was calling for me. Everything was simple and quick and the bubble tea was delicious!

a menu for sushi meals

One of the most affordable Japanese spots. I love Edo Japan's daily specials which is from Monday to Sunday. We went on Thursday, which is when they've got these sushi-licious deals going on. We got a mix of 16 pieces of sushi - California, Dynamite, Volcano and Tiger rolls. Normally, one roll at other restaurants would cost around $9.99, but now it's $9.99 for 4 different rolls. It's really not bad and a quick and budget-friendly meal. We also got the sukiyaki beef with brown rice. We'd tried it in Banff before and they served up this generous portion of beef and sauce that tasted amazing. So we tried it again, but it wasn't quite the same. The portion was smaller and there was too much sauce, making it a bit salty.

I ordered a lot from here and I had the chance to try it in person. I wasn't really sure on what to expect in terms of the restaurant, but it's pretty well kept. I'd consider this fast food though the quality is very good. My go to is always the teriyaki salmon and it is very filling. My friend really likes the tofu here and the annoying thing is that they don't have a stand alone tofu option. Ie, you have to order chicken and add tofu. They do have it only on Fridays - it's called "tofutastic". If you're vegetarian you're kinda limited on eating only on a certain day, like what?? Doesn't make sense. Also, I wouldn't recommend the milk tea. It was very watery and the boba wasn't good.

Fresh Grilled Veggies Teriyaki Bento w/ Cali Roll & Spring Rolls

As far as fast food goes, the quality was very good. They have bento, sushi, teriyaki bowls, and the like. There's a lot of options for meat-eaters, for vegetarians the menu pretty limited, but my veggie teriyaki bento was good. The portions for everything in the box were large and all seemed fresh. The spring rolls were perfectly crispy. They ask how much sauce you'd like for the teriyaki - I went with "regular" and it was plenty. I found the sauce a little bland, but it is just fast food so maybe my expectations shouldn't be too high. The cabbage on the side of the teriyaki was lukewarm by the time I got to eating it, but that also may have been my fault for being a slow eater. No other complaints. I don't recall the staff being either especially friendly or unfriendly. The price is fair for the portion.

Beef bento on brown rice with California rolls and shrimp tempura

I was in the area and was craving some sushi so I decided to check this place out. However, I was disappointed upon looking at the menu as it was very westernized and didn't have a lot of the typical Japanese restaurant dishes. This is a sit down fast food place. The sushi options seemed quite limited so I settled for the beef bento box with shrimp tempura and 4 pieces of California rolls for the sides. The other side options included gyoza and spring rolls. The bento box itself was quite pricey for the amount you get, but the beef and rice with teriyaki sauce tasted pretty good and had good flavor to it. The shrimp tempura was small but super crispy! The California roll was decent, nothing too special. I went on a Wednesday evening and we were the only ones there. Though they do get a lot of take out orders. Overall, decent food but a bit pricey for what it is.

We have never heard of Edo Japan before so we were excited to try out Japanese food when they opened. We were disappointed to find out it was more of a fast food restaurant than an authentic Japanese restaurant. The interior reminds me of an Ikea and didn't have any "Japanese" feel to it. We browsed the pre-made sushi containers but they were small and slightly overpriced for what it was. There weren't many sashimi or raw fish options. We skipped the sushi and ordered the Chop Chop bowl and Yakisoba noodles with chicken. The meals tasted average and were placed in either a plastic plate or bowl. I think Edo Japan should use reusable dishware. We were given a coupon to return another time but I don't think we'll be back as we were expecting authentic Japanese food. However, the staff are very friendly though!

Noodlefull- chicken

Teriyaki chicken Bento was good but portion seemed a little less for the price - we ordered the spring rolls and gyoza( they have pork or beef only option), should have tried the sushi instead of the gyoza. The noodlefull was good with apt amount of veggies and chicken. I asked double for the sauce and for my taste kinda a one and a half was better since it became too much sausy, will have to try a single serving of the sauce. It's a fast food chain hence barely any wait time , approximately 10 mins. Overall good . May try the other options again.

The reviews and pictures make it seem like a sit down place but in reality it is a take out sorta place. Beautiful decor and very Japanese. They also have a ton of Japanese snacks for sale! We ordered a bento box and a salad bowl. Both were fresh and delicious. The teriyaki sauce is actually very tasty! My salad bowl was filled with edamame and fresh veggies and some nice soft tofu. We also got two brownie bites free with the bento box as part of their promotion. Overall, a decent and fairly priced place for quick Japanese food.

Came by because I was craving sushi so I wanted a something quick to go. Menu was decently big and lots of options. Sushi was ehhhhh hahaha. But I kinda expected it to taste like that. I do wanna try the grill stuff next time, maybe that'll add another star! Interior of the place was really nice and had a snack corner where you can buy pocky and stuff.

Edo Japan serves shopping mall/plaza style Teppanyaki. The food itself is acceptable, but not the best if you have had real Teppanyaki. The flavor is catered towards Western audiences and meant for quick lunch rather than restaurant-style meal. I'm surprised they don't have a location in PATH or other office areas. This is a solid choice if you're in a food court after shopping. The store is new and nicely decorated. I also liked how the food was presented when I ordered the Chicken & Beef Bento. The bento came with 2 sides and I chose spring rolls and tempura shrimps. The meat here was more like shreds and wasn't that satisfying. The sauce was good, and I can understand why they are also selling the sauce separately. The spring rolls and tempura were a bit small. Therefore, I'd get this if I were craving some quick Teriyaki, but not as a full restaurant meal. The price is slightly expensive for plaza style food ($15.59 with tax for bento) so 3 stars.

From the outside it didn't look as impressive as other spots I've tried, but once inside, everything was spot on. The space was well organized, the staff changed the grills frequently, and the meats were fresh with marinades done just right. The deep-fried dishes were surprisingly top-notch too, with light crispy batter that beats what many a-la-carte places serve. Even the sushi rolls were much better than I expected from an AYCE place. Every item came out fresh and well-prepped, showing that they actually care about quality here. Honestly, everything felt legit. It's not easy to find an AYCE that keeps both quality and variety at this level. I wasn't a fan of their other location before, but this Mississauga one completely changed my mind. If I'm ever nearby again, this would easily be my first choice for Japanese BBQ.

I'm not sure how much my friend putting us on wait list before arriving helped but we waited about 30 mins before it was our turn. There were 5 of us (4 adults and one toddler) and we were in a booth for four adults. The booths are pretty small considering all the things you can order. Luckily our booth was against a wall with space to put the dishes that didn't fit on the table. Dinner service was very busy as it was difficult to flag down a server to order. Once we ordered, the meats came out very fast. I think the cuts offered at Shinta are high quality for an AYCE restaurant. Currently Shinta offers an order of free A5 wagyu with your dinner. Everyone really enjoyed the Wagyu, even my toddler! The sushi that they offer was also good. I opted to eat less sushi to fill up on the meat. For dessert, the majority of us got the mango pomelo sago. It was refreshing! Overall, I really enjoyed Shinta and will be having my birthday dinner here next month! They also offer a free 6" cake if you reserve at least three days in advance.

We're surprised to be the only party of eight dining in for two hours till COB. There's ample seating to join middle tables together. We're able to immerse ourselves in conversations. I ordered the Mini Sukiyaki Combo. I loved their Mini Sukiyaki where you allow all the ingredients to cook for a few minutes, crack egg into the pot, able to control your own temperature settings on your own butane with propane grill. Salad and gyoza were tasty. Majority of my relatives ordered various ramen and/or apps. There was only one employee working, who was attentive, brought beverage and napkin refills, checked to see how we're doing and if there's anything else we needed. Smaller menu selection. Wouldn't mind returning for the quality.
