I found out that Heartland Centre has an Edo Japan. I love this franchise. It's Canadian and I like the food offerings. It took me nine minutes to drive over to this eatery. It's across from Best Buy and JYSK. Skechers is nearby. What I like about this location is that it's sandwiched between Starbucks on the left and Copper Branch on the right. I love all three businesses. I was pleased. I had no problem finding a parking spot. I backed into an available one and walked over. This eatery is large and clean. A male staffer was taking a break and chowing down. There was one customer waiting for his order. His order was ready. As he went to fetch it from the counter, it allowed me to look at the chicken ramen deal. The ramen has tonkotsu broth and it comes with a fountain drink. Sold! I got a nice, friendly woman who took my order. I went with the chicken ramen soup combo. I had my Edo rewards barcode scanned. I earn points that convert to dollars that you can use towards the cost of a future meal. Sweet! I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I got a cup for my drink. She gave me my order number and said that it would be called out. I used the fountain drink machine. I filled my cup with ice and then Diet Coke. I put a lid on it and fetched a straw. My drink tasted crisp and great. I refilled my cup before I left. I sat closest to the window. The male staffer was where I would have liked to have sat down, because it was a two-seater table and I'd be closer to the machine. I got another two-seater table closer to the window. The nice female staffer came over with my ramen. It was a nice service touch. I appreciated the gesture. She said that she was happy to do it. So great! It's one reason why this place gets a perfect review. The service was stellar. The chicken ramen was excellent. Sure, it's fast food. It was good. The chicken was tender. I loved the veggies. It had corn, which was awesome! The ramen was thicker than I had imagined it to be. It was yummy. I liked the broth. It probably had more pepper than I would have liked. However, it was delicious. It wasn't salty. The pork flavour was mild, but good. I drank it all up. I put away my tray and disposed of everything. It was easy throwing away each item, as the garbage area listed which items go where. I used the washroom before I left. There were two single stalls. One had a large button to open the door for accessibility. I used the one without it. The stall was clean. I also liked the hand drier that allowed me to put my drink on top of it. I visited recently for their $3 bubble tea special, trying the taro milk tea. The size is comparable to a large at places like ChaTime or Coco. I found the taste somewhat artificial, and it was a bit too sweet for my preference; I'd probably request less sugar next time. The service was quick, and the store wasn't crowded. The ambiance was clean, with plenty of seating available. For $3 I would try the other flavours just for fun like Kiwi Lemonade or Brown Sugar milk tea! read more

The sushi there was really tasty and me and my sister enjoyed it. The service in edo is really good. There was this sweet lady there and she was really kind. I spilled some soy sauce and she came right away to tell me that it was okay and they'll clean it up. The food was also really Fresh. One of the most affordable Japanese spots. I love Edo Japan's daily specials which is from Monday to Sunday. We went on Thursday, which is when they've got these sushi-licious deals going on. We got a mix of 16 pieces of sushi - California, Dynamite, Volcano and Tiger rolls. Normally, one roll at other restaurants would cost around $9.99, but now it's $9.99 for 4 different rolls. It's really not bad and a quick and budget-friendly meal. We also got the sukiyaki beef with brown rice. We'd tried it in Banff before and they served up this generous portion of beef and sauce that tasted amazing. So we tried it again, but it wasn't quite the same. I ordered a lot from here and I had the chance to try it in person. I wasn't really sure on what to expect in terms of the restaurant, but it's pretty well kept. I'd consider this fast food though the quality is very good. My go to is always the teriyaki salmon and it is very filling. My friend really likes the tofu here and the annoying thing is that they don't have a stand alone tofu option. Ie, you have to order chicken and add tofu. They do have it only on Fridays - it's called "tofutastic". If you're vegetarian you're kinda limited on eating only on a certain day, like what?? Doesn't make sense. As far as fast food goes, the quality was very good. They have bento, sushi, teriyaki bowls, and the like. There's a lot of options for meat-eaters, for vegetarians the menu pretty limited, but my veggie teriyaki bento was good. The portions for everything in the box were large and all seemed fresh. The spring rolls were perfectly crispy. They ask how much sauce you'd like for the teriyaki - I went with "regular" and it was plenty. I found the sauce a little bland, but it is just fast food so maybe my expectations shouldn't be too high. The cabbage on the side of the teriyaki was lukewarm by the time I got to eating it, but that also may have been my fault for being a slow eater. No other complaints. I don't recall the staff being either especially friendly or unfriendly. The price is fair for the portion. read more

However, I was disappointed upon looking at the menu as it was very westernized and didn't have a lot of the typical Japanese restaurant dishes. This is a sit down fast food place. The sushi options seemed quite limited so I settled for the beef bento box with shrimp tempura and 4 pieces of California rolls for the sides. The other side options included gyoza and spring rolls. The bento box itself was quite pricey for the amount you get, but the beef and rice with teriyaki sauce tasted pretty good and had good flavor to it. The shrimp tempura was small but super crispy! The California roll was decent, nothing too special. I went on a Wednesday evening and we were the only ones there. Though they do get a lot of take out orders. We have never heard of Edo Japan before so we were excited to try out Japanese food when they opened. We were disappointed to find out it was more of a fast food restaurant than an authentic Japanese restaurant. The interior reminds me of an Ikea and didn't have any "Japanese" feel to it. We browsed the pre-made sushi containers but they were small and slightly overpriced for what it was. There weren't many sashimi or raw fish options. We skipped the sushi and ordered the Chop Chop bowl and Yakisoba noodles with chicken. The meals tasted average and were placed in either a plastic plate or bowl. I think Edo Japan should use reusable dishware. We were given a coupon to return another time but I don't think we'll be back as we were expecting authentic Japanese food. Teriyaki chicken Bento was good but portion seemed a little less for the price - we ordered the spring rolls and gyoza( they have pork or beef only option), should have tried the sushi instead of the gyoza. The noodlefull was good with apt amount of veggies and chicken. I asked double for the sauce and for my taste kinda a one and a half was better since it became too much sausy,will have to try a single serving of the sauce. The reviews and pictures make it seem like a sit down place but in reality it is a take out sorta place. Beautiful decor and very Japanese. They also have a ton of Japanese snacks for sale! We ordered a bento box and a salad bowl. Both were fresh and delicious. The teriyaki sauce is actually very tasty! My salad bowl was filled with edamame and fresh veggies and some nice soft tofu. Edo Japan serves shopping mall/plaza style Teppanyaki. The food itself is acceptable, but not the best if you have had real Teppanyaki. The flavor is catered towards Western audiences and meant for quick lunch rather than restaurant-style meal. I'm surprised they don't have a location in PATH or other office areas. This is a solid choice if you're in a food court after shopping. The store is new and nicely decorated. I also liked how the food was presented when I ordered the Chicken & Beef Bento. The bento came with 2 sides and I chose spring rolls and tempura shrimps. The meat here was more like shreds and wasn't that satisfying. The sauce was good, and I can understand why they are also selling the sauce separately. The spring rolls and tempura were a bit small. Therefore, I'd get this if I were craving some quick Teriyaki, but not as a full restaurant meal. The place itself seems to be like contemporary minimalist style, a very clean, neat space. The food presentation looks to be like canteen food, the bento boxes look like toys (meant to be reusable?), and plates are paper plates. In my opinion edamame is best steamed, as it is done at most Japanese places I've been to, then tossed with spices and/or seasoning, at Edo their edamame is somehow oily.. their menu says that it's steamed, and the sesame chili option is not spicy at all (I'm pretty low tolerance for spicy food). My siblings have tried the tempura shrimp as part of their bento box meal and it was very heavy on the batter. Today is the first time I've been there and I got the fresh grilled vegetables with yaki soba noodles instead of rice, and the noodles were somewhat chewy but for the most part they were stuck together as if it was overcooked or, precooked and cooked again to heat through with the vegetables. There is also this "grab & go" shelf that consists of pocky sticks, wasabi peas, tumbler cups, and hi chew candies. I'm not sure what demographic they are targeting but I think they missed the mark for culture. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the employees were fairly nice people, but I would not give 3 stars as it is not an okay place and I would not go back again. read more

Tried this place for the first time, honestly expecting it to be like all the others dollar to it, but I loves it! The teriyaki sauce they use here has such an nice flavour and aftertaste. Sometimes at places it can be too sweet or too salty, but this is just great. Nice balance and not over powering the food. I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box with shrimp to give myself a nice variety. I enjoyed everything. The salmon was cook perfectly, the tempura shrimp were crispy, not soggy at all. And their edamame was steamed perfectly with the right amount of salt. My husband order the salmon bento box as well but with yakisoba noodles and the California rolls. He loved his meal as well. The noodles we perfect and not overcook/undercooked. There wasn't complains about either of our meals and we will definitely be going back. If you want a changed from the other guy or a new experience I highly recommend coming here. The great variety and quality of food you get, you will not be disappointed. They offer a good selection of bento boxes and combinations. I like that they offer brown rice as well. They ask you how many scoops of the special sauce you want on your meal and I thought that two wasn't enough - it's actually more than enough! That's unless you like your stuff soaked, but I would recommend no more than that. They have edamame and I highly recommend to make it spicy - so good!!!! It's a good place for quick and easy lunches. I've been there at peak lunch hours and after the lunch crowd and it's never busy that you can't get a place to sit. The food was delicious, and the staff were super friendly. This is a brand new location that opened recently. The management seems really friendly and helps their staff as they get used to the process, and they check with the customers if everything meets expectations. They have a great selection on their menu. It is a bit pricey compared to some other places, but you're paying for quality. I noticed my udon had a different texture to it and it didn't taste as good as I remembered it. The noodles weren't cooked through and the veggies were not cooked through either. Oy vey. Not only did the staff dismiss me as quickly as they could as I came in to inquire about my online order- but I was told it was not ready 5 minutes after the online ETA. I sat and waited an extra 10 minutes for my order to be ready, which would totally be a passive and fine thing to me and I would still give 5 stars even if that part hadn't happened, except the state of the to-go order was unacceptable. When my order was ready, they called out some foreign order number- completely unrelated to my online order. Like, they called "#939" and then specified it contained the oceani platter. I picked up my order based only off the latter attempt. I scoured my receipt in my email and it didn't have the number 939 ANYWHERE. They made me feel stupid for not popping up when they said it. My name is on the order. My name is on the receipt. Call my NAME. I went to grab my order and my god the LOOK I got from this employee. Don't alienate your customer. Seriously... Anyway, I got my order home and it was flooded. Lol. The containers for my miso soup AND the sauce for my tempura shrimp were completely empty, poured into the bag with the rest of my food... What a mess to clean up before even getting to eat... This store made me grumpy. This store made me feel like an unwelcome and dumb alien. This store did not seal liquids for transport.
