High end italian fashion for men. Great fabric but not so much the price tags. Mostly one off or small selections from European designers. For the wealthy and for special occasions. read more

Pocket is like the Newmarket branch of MADE in the city. Both stores are owned by the same people,…read moreso it makes sense. It's kind of off the beaten track, behind Rialto cinemas in that little area on Kent Street that seems to be growing more and more popular by the day. It's standalone and the layout of the store is quite nice. They stock similar things to MADE - notably APC. They also do Karen Walker, Standard Issue, House of Holland eyewear, etc. There's men's and women's clothes and accessories, and as well as new, they stock some vintage. The staff were nice, friendly without being overbearing. I tried on a few things, walked out with a pair of really stonewashed 90s Levi's. I'd say the store fits somewhere inbetween Area 51/Black Box and Fabric in terms of prices and brands. My fashion/shopping expert friends thought I should give the place three stars but I think it's a bit above 60%, and extra points because I bought something. Worth a visit.

This is a brand new store which is part of the new street complex in Newmarket. It's a really lovely place, laid out beautifully and stocks labels such as Status Anxiety, Louis Vuitton, APC and Karen Walker as well as boasting a pretty awesome vintage section! Their prices were really reasonable and that is what I loved so much about this place, they hadn't conformed to the Newmarket trend and overpriced everything. I purchased a lovely leather bag for only $150 which I though was a real bargain, as well as one of Karen Walker's new season key-rings for only $29! The two staff working there was so nice to talk to and I felt really comfortable with them, not looked down upon which is sadly common in upmarket boutiques. I knew instantly that I had found my new favourite shop and I'm probably going to have to go back tomorrow and get those boots....yay!
Beautiful things!

Now that I know they actually have their own store, and things are actually cheaper than where you would buy them originally I am hooked. It helps that they had a babe'n sales assistant on the day when I went in there, all dark hair and tatts and well dressed and oh my god did I tell you I love this store! He was actually very helpful. This isn't your typical outlet store, they actually have stuff that is being sold at other places at the same time, its not end of lines or just stuff that no one bought. It's cheap AND its not last seasons. As well as great clothes, they also do amazing shoes too. Sales assistant guy: call me!

Every time I go there they've got something I desperately want and can easily justify to myself why I should have it. The clothes are good looking, good quality and are a good bargain. I'd go there especially if you want jeans because they have heaps of them and jeans can be really expensive. The staff are really helpful and being in such a good location, the shop is really handy for all those wardrobe emergencies. My biggest recommendation is that you go there before you go anywhere else because there's nothing worse than buying something only to see it way cheaper later on! Save yourself the pain and heartbreak by going there today.

However this does not mean there are huge distinctions between the mens and womens areas of the shop - there is actually quite an androgynous feel about the clothing on display, from the beanies to duffel coats, bar the odd Lonely Hearts dress or two. This makes for a nice range of casual, easy-to-wear street gear, perfect for days at uni but easily styled up with a pair of heels or some dress shoes. In terms of the service, I was helped today by a friendly girl who sympathised wonderfully with my proportion dilemma with pants and did a great job at trying to help me what I was looking for (unfortunately it was one of those cases where that 'in-between' size does not exist). I will certainly be back though, as Area 51 is a boutique filled with a great range of some of the best NZ and international brands.

So imagine how I felt when I walked into Workshop and saw them there, side by side, getting touched by other women! I am, of course, referring to misters Wang and Jacobs respectably. And it's not so much them I'm in love with, it's the beautiful clothes and accessories they make and Workshop happen to sell some beautiful current season lines from both them and other hip designers such as APC and Hudson. Although they only have small sections for each designer, the stuff they have is gorgeous. I particularly love their selection of Marc by Marc Jacobs handbags and purses. It's a really spacious store as well, with lots of light. I love the fact that the rails all hang from the ceiling too, it really gives the whole place a very upmarket boutiquey feel. My only issue with this store is the staff. I guess it's just typical designer store snobbery for them not to say hello or any assistance to those they just see as browsers, but it grates on me all the same.

The staff member assisting me was cordial and quite excited to get me to try some of their garments on, though perhaps a bit heavy on the flattery. A well located store amongst the men's fashion stores of Newmarket. Like, you'd have to have a mega tan and be called Eduardo to shop there or something. I feel like the store needs to be a bit more upbeat, and less cluttered and well, cheap looking. The prices are higher than I would've expected. They actually stock some okay brands, it's just the housing of them that puts me off. After wearing the shoes for a few days I found them uncomfortable due to a raised seam on the back of the heel which rubbed a blister. I spoke to the shop assistant at Eurostyle and was told "tough luck". No help whatsoever. So I bought some heel pads to cover the seam and continued to wear the shoes in the UK. Within the first month the very thin rubber sole wore through. I bought some insoles and continued to wear them. Over the next 3 months they gradually deteriorated until they were no longer wearable. On returning to Auckland I returned the shoes to Eurostyle for their comment on the Quality of their product - I left the shoes with the store manager to show to the Owner, Mr Jacob Garhbait. No one phoned me, so after 2 weeks I called the store for their comment. I was told that the owner laughed when he saw the shoes and did not acknowledge any fault. I will never deal with these people and their poor product again. Julian Cole

General Issue stocks a lot of American 'preppy' brands like Abercrombie and Fitch (of course). The stuff in here is usually pretty good quality, and pretty good value also considering that I swear there always seems to be a sale on whenever I'm in there. Though I do really like General Issue itself, there's something that just doesn't sit right with me about the Newmarket store. There's not as much women's wear as the men's and the stuff isn't really as nice as you can find in other examples of their stores. And the sales assistants aren't up to much. They never really seem to take much notice of you. The two girls that were working in there when I was there last seemed to be more interested in talking to each other than making sales.
