Now that I know they actually have their own store,and things are actually cheaper than where you would buy them originally I am hooked. It helps that they had a babe'n sales assistant on the day when I went in there, all dark hair and tatts and well dressed and oh my god did I tell you I love this store! He was actually very helpful. This isn't your typical outlet store, they actually have stuff that is being sold at other places at the same time, its not end of lines or just stuff that no one bought. It's cheap AND its not last seasons. As well as great clothes, they also do amazing shoes too. Sales assistant guy: call me!

Every time I go there they've got something I desperately want and can easily justify to myself why I should have it. The clothes are good looking, good quality and are a good bargain. I'd go there especially if you want jeans because they have heaps of them and jeans can be really expensive. The staff are really helpful and being in such a good location, the shop is really handy for all those wardrobe emergencies. My biggest recommendation is that you go there before you go anywhere else because there's nothing worse than buying something only to see it way cheaper later on! However this does not mean there are huge distinctions between the mens and womens areas of the shop - there is actually quite an androgynous feel about the clothing on display, from the beanies to duffel coats, bar the odd Lonely Hearts dress or two. This makes for a nice range of casual, easy-to-wear street gear, perfect for days at uni but easily styled up with a pair of heels or some dress shoes. In terms of the service, I was helped today by a friendly girl who sympathised wonderfully with my proportion dilemma with pants and did a great job at trying to help me what I was looking for (unfortunately it was one of those cases where that 'in-between' size does not exist). I will certainly be back though, as Area 51 is a boutique filled with a great range of some of the best NZ and international brands.

Wow I thought, here's my chance to ask them about the quality and more importantly the sizing issue so that I could make a judgement call then purchase. Well... I was ghosted. No response to my email, or my follow up email due to no reply. Weeks pass and I decide to risk it. I shouldn't have. The shirts I purchased are way too big, as is the knitted jumper. Then the trousers I purchased were way too small! Clearly I start the return process, only for the label the fail to generate. So here I am again having to wait for a reply. Hopefully I'm not ghosted this time! Quality of the items is beautiful and priced accordingly. Shame about the sizing issue and appalling customer service. Well it's not even appalling as it is non existent.

Eccentric, retro, psychedelic, you name it. Floral or paisley business shirts that make you stand out from the normal, quirky cuff links that make you wanna laugh, funky hats, imagery t shirts that you won't find on Queen Street. The men's footwear in this store also rocks the casbah! Holy cow! Its crazy cool! As any guy with confidence I'm sure you could pull off looking like Mr it in these glorious original pieces. The accessories are cool and retro, and the short sleeved men's shirts are amazingly original with unique imagery, my two favourites are the Island Life and the Tattoo short sleeved collared shirts. The prices are not cheap at Strangely Normal, they have since 1977 paved a name in men's fashion and put New Zealand on the map internationally so they deserve much praise and award which they funnily enough have received. The decor, the service, and if you get so far as to make a purchase the hand-written receipts create an ambiance that quietly emanates permanence and quality, even though they have only been around since 1999. If you come here you will be welcomed upon arrival, and if you are shopping for suits or shirts you will in no time have a tape measure under your armpits and in the case of a suit your inner thigh as well as waist. Once your sizing has been narrowed down then a few more measurements will be made before your suit is packed up and sent off for tailoring. Don't expect any change out of $1500 for a suit, in saying that my partner tells me that his Crane Brothers suit is the best suit he owns, and if he could justify the expense he would get all his suits there. The suits fit and sit beautifully, tapered and tailored in all the right places and make a man look his best.

Crane Brothers specialises in suits. You can get off the rack and have it altered within the Crane Brothers workroom, or you can go made to measure. As a female, I can't comment on the suit-purchasing process, but having narrowish hips and a penchant for menswear I have actually had two pairs of pants made to measure from the High Street store. The first was a navy wool/cashmere blend with jet pockets and a button fly. They are quite special to me, partially because of the high price (which varies based on the cloth you choose) and obviously because they are made to fit me. The second is a beige cotton pair based on the first - just for casual Summer days, but equally as valued in my wardrobe. And in that is the crux of it all: Crane Brothers makes and sells special clothes and accessories for men. They stock the Gubb & Mackie range for those looking for something less formal, and a nice range of ties, boxers, socks, wallets, fragrances and the like. The service is impeccable - you'll never see staff leaning in there, and they only use black pens) and they all look great. Make the effort to visit.

It is the essence of 70'-esque British style, for a modern generation. My husband has been wearing it for years, and the best i can describe it is as though it is meant to look bespoke, but off the rack, at prices that are somewhere between mid-price and luxury. $100 (U.S.) is about right for a men's long sleeve shirt. The trouble as i understand it is that Ben Sherman has moved away from its traditionally slim fit lines towards a boxier cut. That makes sense from a sales perspective: there is more money to be made when selling clothing that fits more people, less well, than less people, well. But I'm not reviewing the clothing here. The store is a nice layout with a good-sized dressing room. It's also connected to Lacoste, so if you prefer French to British, just move over a few feet. The employee we met was very polite, and as helpful as she could be despite a language barrier (her English was weak and our Japanese is even weaker). Still, we semi-spoke and mimed our way through a nice visit, in what turned out to be a productive shopping stop in a nice part of Auckland. There is additional shopping to be had near this store, so clear an afternoon.

I used to walk past here everyday on my way to work and was always very impressed by the outfits they had on the mannequins. If this styling was anything to go by then I needed to go visit the people that worked here. I was not disappointed. The place is really cool and is full of really unique and quality stuff. The service is really great. I think as a whole, New Zealand retail service and hospitality service actually, is pretty average. But the people I have encountered here are true fashion lovers and seem like they really do like their jobs. There are plenty of simple staple items from brand like Neuw (obviously) and numerous other Kiwi and international ones. Even if you're just having a browse, it's a nice experience. And get inspired by the mannequins!
