Love this hardware and lumber store! Old school, from a time before the big chains, a store like this is where the professional and homeowner alike would get everything they need with expert advice, and they still can't be beat! As a homeowner, advice is paramount, you can waste time and money if you can't get the right product first and best. Angelo helped me out in a major way with my 96 year old house's original trim, saved me hundreds and also most importantly helped me save the day at home when we had to replace moldings and casings for our doors and walls, we wanted to keep it original, and there were many walls that had incorrect trim. Lo and behold Angelo found the exact vintage router bit, set up his table and cut us exact replicas of our home's baseboards and casings and our DIY home renovation has some serious class. I met with the owner, Angelo, who happens to be a really cool guy. He told me that he's been connected to that land for 68 years. Not only did he tell me everything I needed to know about laminate and engineered wood flooring, but he also invited me to a musical event that he's putting on in the back of his hardware store. He sets up two stages for bands to rock out and it's all open to the public. A very hospitable dude - that Angelo! I'm looking forward to working with him to get my family room floor replaced. read more

An excellent hardware store and one of the best millwork shops in the region. If you don't see what you want, Angelo and his team can find it or make it for you. I had a problem with the key fob to my car. Even though no one there knew how to replace the fob to this 2015 car with an outdated fob, the owner worked with me until he found the solution. You are not going to get this attention at a large chain or box store. If you want advise or guidance, don't stop, go straight to this store. read more

As a Highland Park neighbor this store is one of my go-to places for nearly anything I'd need for my apartment. What I like about this place is I'm greeted when I walk in, offered help, and depending on my need and interest the folks there help me, or let me comfortably browse. Recently, I was looking for some dresser knobs and I wasn't sure of the exact size, Chris suggested I purchase one of each in a different size to see what works and they'd refund whichever didn't work. Really appreciated the help and suggestion. Found the perfect knobs too! One of the things that I think isn't brought up enough, is how well decorated the place is--it's truly a unique gem for hardware stores. Finally, and for a single lady, perhaps importantly, the place is affordable. I always end up finding some other things I need and NEVER feel like I'm breaking the bank. Shopping at EMH is a great way to put money into our local economy--would recommend to anyone. read more

Went for paint. Very nice gentleman helped me. They have quite a lot of hardware and things. I was looking forward to going there again rather than awful home depot. So why two stars? While waiting for the paint to be prepared, this bald guy who I guess is the head honcho came over and asked me if anyone was helping me and I explained I was waiting for the paint. And he kept just standing there. Like staring. For like ten minutes. Not doing anything, talking, checking his phone, straightening merchandise, reading catalogues. Nope, just stood there looking at me and the paint guy. Creepy as fuch. Just kept staring. Was he annoyed with the paint guy or did he have some kind of problem with me? I don't know what his fing problem was but he creeped the fck out of me and I won't be back. You can stare at an empty cash drawer from now on, creeper. I should have asked him what the fck his problem was but I'm just not going back there. Aug 2018: I see that an employee wrote an "explanation" but it seems more like an excuse. If you could you please send me a private message further explaining details of who this was and what happened, I'll consider returning and updating my review. read more

This place is undoubtedly the best! I went in not knowing what types of wood I needed to make a scrap wood cutting board, and they knew exactly what I was going for, which woods were the best, the ideal dimensions, and found all the perfect pieces by the next day! They even called me with the price before pursuing my request so that I wouldn't be surprised, and texted me a picture of the beautiful woods I would be buying (They threw in some extra pieces of wood, too, so I'd have more options in the arrangement of my cutting board!). This is an old school, family owned, neighborhood hardware store at its best. The lumber at EMH is top quality--far superior to the crap you get at Home Depot or Lowe's. It's also an authorized Benjamin Moore paint dealer. read more

These guys are the best. Family owned for 60 years or more. Its a bit frowsty inside but they really know their stuff. There selection of lumber, oak, teak, cedar etc can't be beat. Their mill-work and cabinet making is spot on and they even treat the little old ladies who need small repairs like they were spending big bucks. read more

After being disappointed (AGAIN) at home depot i came here. He was very knowledgable about my door project and gave me everything i needed to finish it. Everything that he sold me was cheaper the lowes and home depot. There ahould be alot more stores like this one. Home depot and lowes lost a customer and true value gains another.
