Attending Dismal Heights Middle/High School is…read morelike willingly signing up for a slow descent into chaos, confusion, and the occasional fire drill that may or may not be real. Imagine a building designed by someone who hated children and air circulation. Half the classrooms don't have working lights, the bathrooms are missing basic amenities (soap, paper towels, occasionally doors), and the HVAC system has two settings: Arctic Tundra and Surface of the Suns Some are lovely, underpaid saints fighting an uphill battle with no support. Others have clearly given up and are just counting down the days to retirement by assigning packets from 1998. I once saw a sub try to teach math using a VHS tape of "Bill Nye" and a whiteboard marker that didn't work. Communication is either nonexistent or completely confusing. You'll get 14 robocalls in one day about Spirit Week but not a single warning when the school suddenly cancels lunch because "the delivery truck got lost." One time they sent out a dress code email in Comic Sans. Enough said. A swirling mass of hormones, hallway drama, and TikTok trends. The social atmosphere is either "Mean Girls" or "Lord of the Flies," depending on the time of year. They served us a "chicken" sandwich once that defied both science and the FDA. I still don't know what that meat was. Probably best not to ask. if you enjoy stress, mystery rashes, and being cold in August, Dismal Heights might be the place for you. Otherwise, run.

I was suicidal my 3rd year here (8th Grade) and the school shamed me for it and did very little to help. The school called my parents and I thought that would've helped but no. I tried journaling about my suicidal tendencies on a google doc and all staff got a notification. Which I find ironic because all the posters and pencils with inspirational quotes say to talk about your feelings and what not. Anyways not only do they disregard of students going through a hard time, the grading system is biased. If your child is a high achiever or you have high expectations of them grade-wise, you'll be disappointed in the sheer amount of teachers who decide to grade poorly due to student preference. Let's not forget the beloved principal! Little is known about Pierre Clark besides the fact that he is a horrible tyrant and honestly came out of nowhere. I'm sure you're wondering in terms of tyranny. Pierre Clark is an oppressive and honestly disgusting person. He would get touchy with a student who in respect of their privacy, I won't mention their name. Overall don't send your child here there are plenty of better options out there.

Hayward high also has many extracurricular activities such as Photography, Sports Medicine, BioMed, Engineering and etc. They also have college prep classes such as Avid and Puente, which not all schools have these classes. My daughter is a Junior and plays volleyball. Few months ago she has went against Hayward High's varsity volleyball team. They're volleyball team wasn't the best, but the one thing I loved about them was that even though the score was 7-16 they would still have smiles on they're faces and they all would hype each other up ! Hayward High has their school spirit and good sportsmanship!

(i've been here for less than a week and it was the worst few days of my life.) DO NOT CHOOSE THIS SCHOOL.

First they don't allow students to choose their science courses in 9 th grade , instead they require them to take in sequence ( physics, chemistry biology). Then the main science course teachers especially AP Physics and Chemistry honor don't know how to teach. Those teachers don't know how to help students to apply their knowledge and concepts to solve problems, and assign homework on regular basis to help students to reinforce what they learn. My kid and the entire class struggle and stress on these subjects. The administration staff don't care. Students have to watch YouTube to learn it themselves. What is the point of paying high tuition for the teachers can't teach and kids have to look for resources from YouTube themselves!! My kid also mentioned that most of the students in the class cheat but the teachers don't know because too busy in texting or they just don't care. I am thinking to pull my kid out of this school next school year. I don't recommend this school at all . Don't waste your hard earned money !

After visiting other private schools, there are attributes that set this school apart. For example, the school provides electives that will get your child ahead of the current industry such as coding, 3D printing, etc. The school staff is very friendly and will answer any and all questions you may have. I would send several emails a day before registering my son with questions and received a response in most cases immediately or within an hour after sending. My son shadowed for two days and immediately wanted to enroll. The teachers are very attentive and partners with parents to ensure your child is successful. Every student is issued their own Chromebook and many of the lessons taught in the classroom is taught using the laptop. The school has a focus on technology and uses apps that shows grades and upcoming calendars to help students and parents manage assignments and exams. This is a school that I would consider thinking ahead of the curve and innovative which is needed as there is a lot of competition for jobs in the Bay Area. I believe this school will provide my child a foundation for success. The school provides college planning counselors that will meet with your child individually. The campus is a newer building which also made my decision to enroll my child even easier. If you are looking for a school for your child 6th-12th grade, you should consider Crosspoint Academy. The school has an Open House this Saturday, 2/4/17 from 10am to 2pm. It will be worth your time to visit.

Moreau has truly disappointed my son and our family. We brought into their belief that Moreau staff…read moreis here for your child. They use catch phrases like we are a community and understand that kids will make mistakes, we are pillars, we will work with your child, were here for them. Well, it turned out that it didn't apply to my son. My experience with the current leadership at Moreau I feel was very bias towards my son and wife. After serving his suspension he was not afforded a review committee board meeting as described in the student handbook 2024-2025 to review parties involved, evidence etc. The principle stated that she knows my son is a good kid but it's better for him and the Moreau community for him not be a student here at the school. Our appeal to the principal decision was summited with no response from the leadership. Per student handbook, appeals are to be submitted to the principle within 24 hrs. The principal said at that moment that appeals are handled by the school president. So, the appeal was summited again to the school president. Three days pass and my wife contacted the school president who claimed she hasn't checked her emails in the past three days and that appeals are handled by the principle. The appeal was forwarded via email back to the principle. Still no response to the appeal. My son was not allowed to return to Moreau. The principle stated she's doing my son a favor by not expelling him but instead letting me withdrawal him. Well, that hasn't turned out well for my son or family. Let me share this with everyone who reading my review. Our refund was denied because of their refund policy. We have paid over $12,000 dollars in tuition to Moreau to date for my son who only has completed 3.5 weeks of school. That's right over $12,000 for 3.5 weeks of school. This should be a crime to have the ability to do this. Moreau sites that each head count for tuition is calculated in their yearly school budget. Moreau has no regards to how their decision has financially and mentally impacted my son and our family. No regards to my family budget and finances. This is unethical that Moreau is not going to refund my son tuition. There needs to be consumer protections laws for paying families at private schools such as Moreau Catholic High. Parents who currently have kids enrolled at Moreau need to question the business office about tuition insurance for consumer protection. The super sad part about all of this is Moreau touts' community but don't live up to it. My wife submitted an addendum to the appeal letter explaining how much we are involved in the Moreau and Oakland Diocese community. The school principal and president apparently don't care that I'm highly known and respected in the cyo track and field community. The school principal and president don't care that I help coach Ben with the track team some years ago at Moreau. The school principal and president don't care that some of your best student athletes have been impacted by my coaching and mentoring. The school principal and president don't care about all the voluntary work my wife has done at my son middle catholic school prior to Moreau. The school principal and president don't care that many families currently that have kids enrolled at Moreau know of the contributions me and wife have done in the community. Just a pointed fact public school students have more protected student rights than private school students who pay tuition. Nonetheless, I'm seeking legal counsel.

It's been about 3.5 years since I wrote my original review of Moreau Catholic High School. I wrote…read morethe original review within the first or second month of my son attending the school. Now both my son and daughter attend and I have a good knowledge of most of the sports, activities, clubs, teachers, faculty, etc. Overall our experience has been top notch, it truly is the best High School in South Alameda County. We have been so pleased with the staff and faculty and we have seen such a renovation boom with new the sports field, bleachers, sound system, scoreboard, etc. They've modernized the campus theatre, and now they are in the process of renovating the individual class rooms. It's amazing to see things change so fast, right before your eyes. My son had some difficulty his sophomore year with a couple of subjects and his counselors were "On It", they worked with him with special tutoring after school and co-lab's. They made sure he didn't slip through the cracks, my wife and I were amazed and grateful for the outpouring of attention when they see a student struggling. He's back on track, thanks to the staff, and is prepared for college next year. Now, is everything, (as Mary Poppins said) "Practically Perfect in Every Way"? No, we had a couple of teachers who tested our nerves, the cost of a private education has made me sweat bullets once or twice and I have not agreed with everything the upper management of the school has done, but overall I'd give the school a 95% out of 100. There is always room for improvement and it's continuing to be a great experience. If you can afford it and you wish for your children to attend one of the better colleges or universities in the country, you can't beat the higher education model of Moreau Catholic.
