some pros, but too many cons from incompetent manager(s) and Amabella who's disrespectful, condescending, doesn't care about facts, and has anger issues (yells). I liked the documents this place gave about employment, the booklet about in-demand jobs, and 2 people there.1 advised us not to give our addresses out & that we should leave our emails instead, advised us to be courteous and tell others who answer the phone to be courteous. gave me connection building advice. she gave info about how it's harder than ever to get jobs.
The job coach explained we will benefit most from vocational counselors' one-on-one meeting. She also prepares people for interviews. Lots of computers for us to use. We can job search, print out documents, ect.
Useful documents includes lists of local temp agencies and those jobs often lead to long term jobs. Jobs were advertised, but they were for jobs paid badly.
FAIL: manager didn't respond to my emailed complaint about amabella c who's quite disrespectful and gives misinfo a lot.
Attitude problems and kept smirking at me. Smirked & told me, " Not everything you read on the internet is true." anger issues.
i was telling her about the research i read from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND EMPLOYERS. She'd give me misinfo and yells. (Kept saying people skills over and over to me. Started chanting retail over and over, but didn't say how i can improve. Then, chanted them together and Didn't explain how to improve. Must've chanted them dozens of times.)
She said i have no choice, but to work whenever they tell me to 24/7 and that i can rely on the bus. My local bus lines stop running at 10:57 pm til 6:05 am & you can pick your schedule out. I told her that. (She gave me several other wrong facts which I can't recall. It was a few years ago and
I just wanted to forget her.)
Some neighborhoods are dangerous and this place emphasizes that it helps those who're disabled including those who're mentally challenged. (given priority.)
I didn't want to make eye contact w/her, so she kept telling me that I should get therapy. She told me I barely make eye contact. The first question she asked me was, " What medications are you on?"
I told her that i was taking nyquil to help me sleep. "NNOOOO!!!!" she screamed. My internist ( MD) says it's fine. It's not long term. She acted like she didn't believe what my MD said about not watching videos late at night means getting rid of my sleep problems. She raised an eyebrow and said, "Usually they don't. If that doesn't work, get a sleep specialist or a second opinion. you might have a sleep disorder." yes, my md is correct.
Amabella is condescending. She called me so smart 'cause I knew that the law library was across the street from them. (She also asked about my personal business, made unrelated small talk, and psychobabbled me. Judgemental.) There's a big sign saying it's the law library. She kept telling me i'm so smart, but .... i literally didn't tell her anything that was smart.
I was telling about what my job counseling textbook said and she smirked again. She raised one eyebrow like she didn't believe what I was saying. I said my research's from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND EMPLOYERS. She smirked and said, "Not everything you read on the internet is true. We talk to employers too." Only decent paying jobs advertised there were truck driving jobs. The others were badly paid service jobs. (It's pretty easy to apply to those jobs, so it's pointless for her to tell me that.)
I told her that my textbook is written and edited by many experts, is recommended by my professor/counselor and we used it in her class. It quotes a lot of research and the employers who visit them are employers looking for those w/few skills. Ms. Anger Issues starts screaming at me for correcting her.
She angrily demanded to know when I'd start looking a few times. I told her in a couple of weeks, when my sleep cycle returns to normal and i'm not too tired. She demanded that I start immediately and was angry. Kept insisting, in fact. She called my job as an aba behavioral therapist bad. (not enough hours.)
In her first email, she was professional & understanding. She told me," Of course, health first." I emailed her back telling her I didn't need her. She emailed me a 2nd time and said that when i'm ready, she or another counselor would help me.
i tried to explain to her that it'd be dangerous for me to mess up my sleep schedule like that ( being on-call 24/7 for 6 months!), but she waved her hand away and looked up. (Dr. Lin would agree!) read more
