I stumbled into Edelweiss Pastry Shop this weekend and WOW...I need to get my eyes checked because I have been MISSING OUT BIGTIME! I am sad that it took me this long to find a quality, delicious croissant in Southern Maine. This is not your average bakery. This is the kind of spot where you take one bite and immediately go quiet because your brain is trying to process how something can taste that good. Each piece is a little work of art! They had these tiny chocolate creme tarts/pie with mango coulis and wow. An absolute dream. Everything we tried was next-level--light, flavorful, not overly sweet, and clearly made with serious skill. The pastries have that authentic European feel where quality and technique come first, not just sugar overload. I am proud to say that I indulged in their croissants and chocolate creme TWICE this weekend. Totally worth it. Biddeford is lucky to have this place. Go visit, your mouth will thank me. Finally stopped into Edelweiss after coming to this area many times. Came on Sunday morning a few hours after opening so some of the popular options were gone already. With an impending storm coming I think some people stocked up to enjoy some delicious pastries while being snowed in. You step foot into the small yet well set up shop and are instantly looking at the pastries for offer. After the breakfast pastries you will find cases of other pastries and cakes and lastly bon bons and truffles. They do have a small amount of seating/tables if you must eat your goodies right away. My wife and I each grabbed something to bring home and enjoy a little later since we had breakfast nearby. My wife got their Tres Leche cake and absolutely loved it. While I got the Black Forest Petit Gâteau, that was perfectly rich yet balanced out and was good til the last bite. Super cute shop! All their pastries are beautifully displayed. We enjoyed ham and cheese croissant. Also chose to grab a few bonbons and they were absolutely delicious. I appreciate the quality and craft going into each piece I got- Olive oil almond cake, Black Forest and rubarb tart. Nothing was too sweet (this is a compliment of the highest standard) but I found the flavor profiles not to my own liking. The blackforest had many components and texture but I wasn't excited about it. The olive oil cake was good, great texture, Crumb and has withstood a long car ride, being left out etc but it just seemed a bit uneventful. I did like the tart, good texture, good flavor. Nothing here strike me as i must return and try other items. I should have asked what makes these items Swiss- as I'm well versed in French, American and Asian confections but not so much Swiss so maybe I just don't know what I'm looking for. read more

1st time here. Nice looking store. High end pastries & chocolates. Tried a few items: Chocolate croissant, rasberry cookie called spitzbub, a muffin type called Bailey's bread pudding & a chocolate & coconut type tort, Everything was very good however The bread pudding had no custard . I 'd probably give it a different name. The owner & baker I assume is Valentina. She's very nice & informative. A nice bakery for some sweet pastries and handcrafted chocolates too. The bonbons are gorgeous! We tried a Ham and Cheese croissant and some honey cookies and they were very good. I've been wanting to visit Edelweiss since it opened a year ago, and finally went there yesterday morning. They certainly did not disappoint me - they were phenomenal!! Beautiful, clean, bakery, greet pleasantly by someone as I entered the door. You can see the entire bakery area from behind the counter to see / know that every item is made from scratch Beautiful, glass display cases with croissants, breakfast Quiche, a blueberry bread of some sort and a lemon shortbread "cookie" with raspberry filling. They also make their own truffles and desserts. I chose a decadent looking chocolate croissant, the asparagus and cheese Quiche, and the shortbread cookie. They do have coffee and seating but I brought mine home. I heated up the Quiche - it was delicious, fabulous. Great homemade crust, lots of fresh asparagus, cheese - the perfect breakfast. Ate the croissant with coffee for an afternoon treat - AMAZING. So many layers of flaky dough, great dark chocolate. Best !!! Then the cookie with orange tea watching TV in at night. Not too dense shortbread, just enough raspberry filling. Did get confectionery sugar on my sweatshirt but who cares when you're eating something so DELICIOUS. Thank you Edelweiss. well, with it not bread they make on Sundays only. I feel they leave it in the oven too long and it's kind of hard on the bottom. It's a little burnt maybe. I think they took the bread out maybe like five minutes before where they're at now it would be a lot better. other pastries are very good. They're just not as sweet as we like it in the United States. I'm sure they're very healthy though. Great beginnings of a pastry shop though. read more

I wish I would have had a photo of the lovely pastries that we got from this bakery but we all devoured them quickly. Parking in the area is a bit tricky sometimes but we did fine a spot right away. There were lots of choices for yummy pastries and we decided to get a box with a few choices. Everything was very good. Not overly sweet and perfect textures. The stand out to me was the raspberry cream brioche that I would say is a must try. The croissants were amazing and crispy. The olive oil cake had a dense crumb and delicate flavor profile. I think Edelweiss is worth the trip! read more

Mushy croissants. Bland bonbons. Snooty service ...like you should be glad we are here to serve you... sorry...sadly that has been the attidude each time. I don't get it. This is Maine. Tone the attitude down a bit and meet your customers where they are. Pastries look delicious but I have been disappointed each time. I know they are a newish business, and the chef has great qualifications; he should be able to knock this out of the park. Maybe not enough business in Biddeford yet for a shop of this kind?? We made a quick stop at a new place this morning. Edelweiss is a new addition to the Biddeford food scene. They're in a great location on Alfred Street. They've rehabbed some of the tile floor to keep the history in tact. Valentina and her husband run the place. She's super friendly. There are still a few things to get complete, but you can see into their beautiful kitchen while they wait for a door to come in. The space is really welcoming. These are amazing pastries! Outstanding! Impeccable execution and service. Fresh and delicious pastries. An absolute asset to the area. Charming and cute shop, and the selection is diverse and divine. The raspberry brioche was stuffed with cream, the andouille quiche had a perfect crust and a ton of juicy sausage, and the Ovaltine cookies were just delightful and had the perfect chew and crackle. Biddeford's food scene gets better and better each time we come up. We were lucky to get here early enough to try some of the gorgeous pastries. I've tried the perfect croissants and the wonderfully, Rich, addictive, schnecken, a German cinnamon walnut roll. My other favorite is the orange blueberry brioche- so tender and flavorful. Such a great option for morning pastries. Love their croissants (chocolate, hazelnut, ham and cheese) and daily focaccia. Makes for a great simple breakfast/brunch option. Also any of their desserts from the glass case are delicious - including any of the tarts and bread pudding. The bakery is bright and clean, and the owners are so gracious, welcoming, and knowledgeable about Swiss baking. So happy they chose Biddeford to open their store! read more
