Truffle Fries
Colin S.

We visited Eddis & Sons on a late afternoon during a less busy time of day. You're greeted with a simple menu with the staples and decided to go for a classic Philly cheesesteak +mushrooms/peppers for $1.50 more plus some truffle fries and a Philadelphia local, Hank's glass bottled root beer. Each sandwich is made to order. There were four orders ahead of us and two workers in the kitchen. It took about 20-25mins to get our food which we were okay with as we had no rush, but definitely doesn't represent as easy grab and go spot --not that they're claiming that by any means. There are a couple benches to wait for your order and a standing bar on the front window, but no indoor seating. The weather was nice enough to hang out on the front patio tables. Philly Cheesesteak was up there with the best I've had. I haven't made a trip to Philly, but as the numerous customer feedback cards on the wall suggest, this was a delicious authentic cheesesteak! Truffle fries were expertly seasoned with a pretty standard garlic aoli and didn't seem overly greasy/salty as I've had other places. Food portions were generous as one sandwich (fork for scale) and order of fries satisfied my wife and me. All-in-all great little spot to take a load off after shopping St. John's or if you're nearby with some time to burn! We plan to return!

CLASSIC cheesesteak wit onion wit wiz. Absolutely Delicious!!! The best cheessteak south of Philly.

The best cheesesteaks I've had outside of Philly in over 20 years. Every time I eat here, it seems to get better. Today, I cashed in my loyalty card and received a free cheesesteak. Make sure you get your card stamped when you come here. What great food. Today, we had 2 classic cheesesteaks, the Philly way wit onion wit wiz. Just glorious rib eye steak, onions, and cheese wiz. The best way to taste the quality of the ingredients. Absolutely delicious. My wife, who grew up right outside of Philly in South Jersey, was glowing with happiness while eating her cheesesteak. I love watching her eat these cheesesteaks. I also purchased something for the 1st time today. It's a cheessteak inside of cups of iceburg lettuce for people who are on a no carb diet or, for some reason, don't want the glorious philly bread. My son loved it and was able to keep going on his diet. Everything we've ordered from here has been great. The staff can not be nicer no matter how it busy it is. They take the time to great and serve each customer individually. The restaurant has the ambiance of many cheesesteak locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. If you want a real cheesesteak, this is the place. to go!! Enjoy!!!

Honest review: it's okay. Huge cheesesteak guy so I gave it another chance. I came once a few years back, it was very dry and lacked flavor. Came back today and tried to make a few changes from my last order just to see if there was any change but unfortunately no. It still lacked that wow factor. I do love their bread though. Very friendly staff but personally it's not the hype that everyone talks about. Jax just doesn't have the ideal cheesesteak that I crave like the ones from Philly. I give it a 7.2/10

This place has been on my list for a while, and I finally got to try it. I ordered it through delivery, but it was still amazing. I got the classic cheesesteak with American cheese. It was phenomenal. I also ordered a side of truffle fries, and those were delicious as well. I need to go in person next time so I can have it right off the bat rather than wait for it to be delivered from a service. It's one of my favorite cheesesteak spots now!

Call off the dogs! I have been on a quest to find the best cheesesteak in Jacksonville and Eddie and Sons topped the list today! My current top 5 is as follows: 1. Eddie & Sons 2. D&LP Subs 3. Subcultured 4. Surfwiches 5. Clarke Brothers I was beginning to think nothing would top D&LP, whose subs I adore, but Eddie and Sons did that today. When I get a cheesesteak, my preferences are white American cheese, onions and peppers. Eddies was about as perfect as you can get from meat to bread to cheese to peppers and onions. If you're looking for a cheesesteak in Duval, you can't go wrong with any of these options but Eddies is the king!

Classic Cheesesteak with Cheese Wiz and onions

Since hearing about Eddis & Sons Cheesesteaks I have been wanting to check them out and I will say I for sure waited too long. The good news it's close to my office. The bad news I'm now completely remote so I'm just not in the area often but this time I was coming on-site and new this would be my day to try them out. We walked in around 12:05PM on a Wednesday and the 2 women working welcomed us. They also seemed very busy but there were only about 3 people who seemed to be waiting. We also realized there were also a number of online orders too. After about 10 minutes she said we could order since they were behind. I went with the Classic Cheesesteak Wiz Wit (with cheese wiz and onions and fries. I will say glad we got there when we did because by 12:15PM-12:20PM the place had become packed. After about 15 minutes from ordering out food was ready and the waiting for sure made me hungry. I quickly got into my cheesesteak and it looked very good. Finely chopped rib-eye that was well seasoned nice and tender with no tough piece and also plenty of cheese wiz which is always a plus for me. I will say the onions were well caramelized but with the beef it was a little greasier them I normally like. For sure looked with a lot of oil. But still good for me when it comes to cheesesteaks in Florida. Also one half of my cheesesteak for sure had more meat then my other half. The fries were crinkle cut which are on a lower tier for fries for me but they were nice and crispy. Almost like they were fried twice. All and all I enjoyed Eddis & Sons Cheesesteaks and it for sure a top 5 cheesesteak I have had in Jacksonville and for sure the best on this side of the bridge. I will say for tips: Order online if possible and maybe try and get there before 12:00PM. Couldn't believe how packed it got and so quickly.

Hands down my favorite cheesesteak place in JAX! I am from New Jersey and would frequently visit Philly for an authentic steak. This place is as close as you can come without being in Philly itself. The cheesesteaks are always fresh, delicious and huge! I always get the cheesesteak with American cheese and grilled onions. I am never disappointed. They also have the best root beer (Hanks) I have been here plenty of times and I recommend it to anyone I know looking for an amazing Philly cheesesteak! They have really good fries and a really awesome special deal that comes with fries and a drink! So thankful for the piece of home in Jacksonville!!!

7" Lunch special wit with whiz.
Leigh L.

Came here for lunch today and was blown away at how absolutely delicious the cheesesteak was. I've been to Philly and opted to go for the wit with whiz. Had a similar one in New Jersey a couple of years ago and can honestly say this was the best of all the cheesesteaks I've eaten. I opted for the lunch special but to be fair, I'd rather have had the larger sub just to have left overs. The lunch special comes with a 7" cheesesteak, fries and a drink. The fries were hot, fresh and lovely and crispy. I wish they'd open a store on the other side of the river, but then my waist says I'm glad they're not lol. These could definitely become addicting. My photo didn't do it justice, but trust me it was packed full of meat with just the right amount of whiz. Given that it was lunch time I was surprised it wasn't busier although there were two people ahead of me. My order consisted of 3 lunch specials and all were served within approximately five minutes and packaged to go. They do have a few picnic tables to eat outside if you prefer there

Finally got the chance to try this place out! Located on a tiny strip plaza on Bowden Rd and very convenient from my office. I'd say they have a good variety of cheesesteak subs/hoagie. I wanted something light and delicious so I choose the Daily 7" Philly Special vegan with Beyond "meat" and vegan cheese. It comes with small fries and a Pepsi or water. Definitely add the onions! Very good and delicious, not super greasy and just about the right amount of food. Felt satisfied and most definitely want to return to try out other menu items such as the Truffle fries. Highly recommend for lunch!

cheesesteak with onions and mushrooms; extra meat, extra cheese
Meagan R.

I love cheesesteaks and honestly don't trust many places to make a good one. I've been sorely disappointed on many occasions. This is consistently one of the best cheesesteaks I've had outside of Philly! I crave this place at least once a month and have been coming for the last year. I've only had one experience where my sandwich wasn't top notch. It's a small shop, not meant for dine-in, but there are tables and benches outside for eating. I definitely recommend calling beforehand because the waits tend to be pretty long, especially around lunch and dinner time. If I were going to knock a star off, it'd be for wait time. I get the cheesesteak with onions and mushrooms. If I'm feeling extra greedy, I get extra meat and extra cheese (pictured below). The hoagies are always nice and fresh, the meat is juicy and flavorful, and the white American cheese is chef's kiss. The game changer though? I always ask for the cheese on top! That way I get the best ratio of meaty cheesy goodness, rather than having the bread try to be the star of the cheese show. Amazing! If you're looking for a solid cheesesteak, Eddis & Sons is the way to go. Writing this review is making me hungry, I just might stop by today!

Classic Chicken with hot sauce

Great customer service. A bench inside to sit and wait and a few tables outside to sit on as well. Pepsi, Joe's lemonade or tea, and Hank's to choose from for drinks. Delicious food very flavorful. Love the vegan option and truffle fries. Delicious homemade garlic aioli sauce. Everything made fresh to order so it's a little wait.

The Vegan Philly Special (that I half ate before the photo lol
Khadeijah M.

So I got the vegan cheese steak and the only reason it's not 5 stars is THEY DIDN'T PUT ANY CHEESE ON MY CHEESESTEAK . Buuuuut I digress because the sun SLAPPED and saved my day. I ordered from two separate vegan restaurants and while kravegan made me want to puke Eddis was a much needed comfort. If you live here or you are visiting you will definitely be happy with trying them out

This was the first place that popped up for me. I am Diabetic 2, and I was feeling hungry and a little bit weak. I actually saw this place as I passed by on my way to my first appointment! I walked in and inquired if they had pita bread. The lady that waited on me was very nice. Yes, they did have pita breakfast sandwiches. She asked if I wanted butter or mayonnaise and I told her yes. I also had a cup of water. I had my coffee at home this morning. I see they have great prices and daily specials! I love that. They also have soups and salads. One review said they have great potato salad. I might get one, "to-go". I also noticed that they have regulars here, an elderly gentleman and also doctors and other medical professionals from the close by hospitals and doctor offices. I also noticed a police officer come in. I wished I lived closer. But, I will come by when I am in the area. It's always nice to find and discover new places. The place looks like a typical deli no glitz no glam just really good food that speaks for itself! I ordered the Reuben with a side of french fries and the Turkey Reuben was absolutely delicious and super filling! I wasn't a huge fan of the french fries but honestly, I also didn't need them because the sandwich was so big! But Jax Bread is probably the best you're going to get in Jacksonville. And it's excellent on its own merits. I ordered the lox bagel and it hit all the right notes: a perfectly chewy bagel, super fresh toppings, and the ideal cream cheese-to-bagel ratio (which matters more than people realize). Everything tasted fresh and was thoughtfully put together (more proper ratios). The service is always lovely, and I've genuinely never had anything here that wasn't delicious. This visit, I also grabbed the day-old mystery 3-pack of bagels so I could carb out a few more times this week. They're just as tasty, freeze beautifully, and at $2.99 it's an unbeatable deal. This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move. Today was about trying something different, and I'm glad I did... even if it didn't knock my socks off.
