I will always love and have a fascination with locally owned variety stores, that is what brought me here. Well, that and the banner that was spoke highly of their Italians :)
First, there is plenty of parking right in front of the store. YAY! I love private parking lots.
When you walk in you realize they have everything you need to weather the next storm :) i.e. Combos snacks, locally made whoopie pies from different places around the state and so many meal (or snack options) from the deli counter.
There is also a refrigerator chest directly in front of you as you walk in. This contains many pre-made items to go, veggie lasagna, teriyaki stir fry chicken dinner, meatballs, onion rings etc. So many options for the whole family. Right above that, you will see the endless rows of whoopies pies :)
The folks that work here are so nice! There have been times we have walked in when they were talking to regulars, but they turned to serve us and treated us just like regulars. :) It made me smile.
They make sandwiches so beautifully yet quickly!! We liked their Italians, but they are different from an Amatos Italian. Different doesn't mean bad, it just means different. The rolls are heavy/heartier than Amatos rolls. They are filling sandwichs and and are stuffed with ingredients. I LOVE the sour pickle spears - puckering good! I had the tuna as well, it was dense and simple - which is exactly how I love tuna.
We have tried a pre-made dinner as well, it was pasta with sauce and it was very nice. Like having homemade leftovers. It does the trick in a pinch.
One of these days we will try the pizza. Perhaps the next time I am waiting for my sandwich, I will buy and eat a pre-made slice to go that is at the register under the heat lamp. :) They look delicious and is a huge "New York" type of slice. It must be good pizza as there was a lady walking out last night with 4 slices piled up walking out the door :) She looked happy.
Definitely a great neighborhood variety store. I will most certainly be back! read more
