I had bedbugs once before in 2007, and I've seen how other companies operate, so it's not for nothing when I say I'm extremely impressed with Ecology EP and Arnold the director. (N.B. I will alter this review if their work doesn't hold up, so please take comfort if this is still here and still has five stars three months from now.) The thing is, when I woke up this morning to find a live bedbug walking across my comforter in front of my nose, I instantly went into full panic mode--not because bedbug bites are so terrible (you'll survive)--but because the PROCESS is MISERABLE. Here was what was horrible BEFORE I found Ecology Ep: *Landlord pretended like he'd never heard of such a thing, and only begrudgingly sent his "exterminator" who sprayed with generic chemicals around the perimeter and left me with hopping mad bedbugs. (Note to 25 year old me: Small Claims Court is your friend.) *I was poor and as a result (or so I thought) the guy I could afford said that I had to do a lot of work on my own. Meaning: *Bagging up everything I owned. *Carrying everything that I could wash to the laundromat. *Dry cleaning what I could afford to dry clean and throwing away the rest. *Buying a new mattress cover and putting it on my infested mattress all by myself. *Throwing out half my furniture. *And even then he had to come back twice, probably because I didn't do everything correctly (given that I was doing it all by myself.) Arnold put me through none of that. It was AMAZING. Here's why: *Great price written right on the website--and LESS than what I paid in 2007. That's shocking--you'll see why in a minute--but it was also great because it meant I could call my landlords and say: "Here's what we're doing, THIS is the price, you're legally obligated to pay for it, and we're doing it tonight before the problem becomes insane. Also, it's coming out of my rent." They said, "Oh my god oh my god fine!" *They guaranteed the work at the industry standard, also right on the website. Another thing I could tell my landlords. *They're licensed and insured and used proper invoicing, also great for dealing with landlords. *Ecology Ep showed up the same day I called. *Arnold brought a small ARMY of people. Four workers, all very sweet. *The price INCLUDED mattress covers for my bed AND my futon. *THEY put the mattress covers on (the worst job ever.) *THEY moved all my furniture--but I didn't have to throw anything away! *THEY bagged up all the things that needed washing. *THEY helped me carry all my stuff to the laundromat. *Instead of putting me through the cost of dry cleaning, THEY brought a steam cleaner and steamed all my good clothes. *AND they didn't just spray with Ecologically sound (but guaranteed!) chemicals, but they ALSO sealed the cracks in my floors and steamed all my books and things I probably couldn't clean on my own. *AND they found the bedbug nest. And killed those jerks. *AND they were extremely kind and lovely about it, from beginning to end. A real plus when you're traumatized by bedbugs. Also, I asked Arnold to check another property while he was in the area, and he found no bedbugs. He could easily have sold me on more work, but he didn't lie, above-and-beyond compassion and professionalism I found consistent with the negative review and his response listed here. Frankly, his straightforward response to the negative review on his free service was an additional reason for me to hire him. Arnold told me he has a lot of contracts now with a lot of large shelters, dorms, and schools, and I believe it. As a young single woman, Ecology EP's help was enormous at an unbelievable price. I was recommended to them through my brother. Arnold is a pleasure to work with. Him and his crew were prompt with exterminating my one bedroom apartment from bedbugs. I had gone to a local laundromat and had picked up a few of these critters. He had inspected my place using a couple of small canines. The dog had found them on the bottom reverse side of my mattress. After using their steaming methods thry were removed and afterwards sealed the mattress. This company is a giant scam. I called them because I suspected possibly having bed bugs but was skeptical I really had them from the start. When I heard about their free inspection I figured why not. I had bites or some kind of rash on me and me and my roommate and I wanted to make sure our apartment was clean and fix the problem before it got worse. When they arrived to inspect the guy came in with a "special light" and orange glasses. The high tech equipment seemed promising. After going around my bed for about 2 min he told me he had found eggs. He showed me with his light and I did see white circles. He told me they were probably hiding under the bed (I knew nothing of bed bugs at this point in time). When he checked my roommates bed he told me we were infested!! At this time he was still unable to find me a bug and all of this took about 5 min. I freaked out and when he left and I did tons of research. After a few minutes of my own research I had already felt scammed by him. There were no real signs of bed bugs. There is supposed to be shit stains left behind...I had none. I should have been able to find at least one using heat and pulling the bed apart but found nothing. The only thing i did discover is how clean my mattress and box spring actually were so I decided I needed a second opinion. I quickly realized that inspections are never free and are at least $125 going up to $400. Removal from most companies is generally around 1000. Ecologyep charges about $500. The next company I called in searched by apartment for about 2 hours with only a simple flashlight but it was a very intense search. He pulled everything apart and examined every inch of every sheet and part of the mattress while explaining everything I need to know about bed bugs and what the removal process is like. After the inspection was over the guy told me he had never seen cleaner beds in general. Ecology EP also offers a dog search but I would bet its as much a scam as the first inspection. The guy seemed to know nothing of bed bugs and how to actually find them. All he wanted was to tell me I had them and spray my apartment down. It was a complete joke! AVOID THIS COMPANY! PLEASE! P.S. The honest company I did use was called "Green Apple Pest Management Services." Great honest company which are also on yelp and have many good reviews. All of it is true and I wouldn't use another company for pest control. Going with a free inspection and cheaper service just isn't worth it. Especially a company that lies right from the beginning. Update in Response to Arnold: Yes, you did the inspection for free...BUT YOU TOLD ME I HAD BED BUGS AND I DIDN'T. How is that not trying to scam me!?! Just because your scam didn't work doesn't mean it wasn't a scam!! You get into people's homes saying the inspection is free to then lie and say there are bed bugs. You scared the shit out of me! I was told my apartment was infested!! You showed me dust mites. I also had to let the firm I work at know in case I brought them into the office and they had to spend money on inspections. Obviously they also found nothing. Hopefully you have changed your ways and you ay be great at removing bed bugs when bed bugs actually exist. I called these guys at 7:30am and they arrived by 9:30 to do an inspection of my 3 story house + basement. By 12:30 they were gone. Almost a week later, no subsequent signs of bugs. I waited as long as I could before writing this review to give the business and service a fair chance. Over 3 months since I've had them come out for the initial appointment, and I still have this problem. Did it reside somewhat? Yes, I haven't seen an adult bb in approximately 2 months. But I'm still receiving mysterious bites and I really feel that this is the batch of nymphs that are now in session. Brief background: My apartment was infested for approx 2 months before 1st treatment and I received about 3-4 bites every other day. Visible adult and nymph bbs. Timeline: 1st appointment: came on time. was not present during the treatment, and no contact was made to let me know when they were leaving the apartment. Not only that, but I wasn't even given a summary on what was found, things to look out for/throw out, etc. 1st follow up: a few weeks after initial treatment...during the original appointment time for the follow up, they "got lost" (no phone call was even made to me) and I ended up having to call and reschedule. The person that came out for the 1st follow up did a pretty thorough job and offered tips on how to keep my place bb free. I followed up and bought the spray that they recommend, as well as continued to bag all clothing and such. 2nd follow up: almost 6 weeks after 1st follow up. Different person came out and literally was done in like 30 seconds!!! I have no idea if he even sprayed or not! Took a nap right after and received small, tiny bites within the hour. Attempted to tell the owner what kind of bites and ask why it's different from my initial ones- the reply I received was indifferent and was told that it would be taken care of. My warranty/guarantee period is up and their service barely provided any respite. On top of that, I was quoted $100 higher than the prices they had on their site. I don't even feel it's worth it to try and reach out again to them. Will take care of this with another company. My advice- when it comes to this situation, do your homework and choose a company that has a solid reputation for getting the problem taken care of. read more

As someone who has had a problem with bedbugs several years ago in a prior building and treated them with another company, I have some standard of comparison and I can say Arnold and his team are as good as it gets. Arnold is very sympathetic to the trauma of having this issue and made the process relatively painless. I shopped around quite a bit for the best rates possible and this company offers very competitive prices. The previous exterminators I worked with put us through an exhaustive process of bagging pretty much everything we owned and washing everything that could be washed. Arnold was minimally invasive and had us do the bare minimum necessary to eliminate the problem which was a huge relief. As somewhat of a chemicalphobe, the most attractive feature about their service is their environmentally and people friendly methods. I explained my fears to Arnold and he tailored his service to address these concerns. In fact, he listened patiently to me ramble on about all my bedbug related trauma and fears and took the time to make sure I felt comfortable and confident in their service. I totally panicked and called every number o could find on google to see who could help me and get rid of those NASTY bugs !! After a few calls and estimate going from 1400$ to 2500$ I saw the review and the price Eco wo offers and I thought it was more reasonable. They first came with a dog to do a canine inspection , a small little black dogs inspected every room and out of our 3 bedroom and 2 sofa 2 bed were infected . He told us it was better to "prevent" a full infection to do all the bed and surfaces anyway, he was very nice and. didn't try to pressure me about it . The difference was only 100$ . He charged me 700$ for the 3 br with the inspection and did a rally good job . Put cover on every mattress, product and steam everything. He even wood sealed the bed frames of the infected bed . My husband surprised me with a new sofa from Ashley furniture...a couple of days later my kids woke up with bites. My dr suspected bedbugs. I called ecology ep and they came a couple of hours later with a k9. Sure enough the beds where positive for bed bugs but what shocked me most was that the k9 identified the brand new sofa which still had the tags on as the source of infestation!!! While I was trying to get through to Ashley's customer service, Arnold and he's partner steamed, sprayed, bagged laundry etc... Besides for the smell being overwhelming (I slept at my sisters that night), I can highly recommend ecology ep. They did an excellent job. I had some sleepless nights after that, waking up constantly to check if there where no bugs and I thought it was great that Arnold gives you a warranty and comes back a couple of days later to confirm that the house is bug free!!!! I called Ecology EP in the morning and Arnold Castro the owner answered and told me they can come right away. I though their rate is half of the other bed bugs specialist around NYC. He came with 2 coworkers in regular clothes. I asked what kind of chemical he will be using and why not the nitrogen method as stated on his site (which I noticed today that is has been suspended). He didn't know what to say. My wife watched what the workers were doing and all they did was vacuum my place and 10 mins later show me the bedbugs he caught. He had it in a ziplock bag which he may have bought in himself. The workers were more like hotel maids vacuuming my living room . The very next day, I got more bites on my arms and so did my wife. I called Arnold and he told me he will come another time. I stayed home and waited all day and then he finally called and tells me he can't make it. I was so upset. We rescheduled for another time and this time when he came to do the job correctly, it took him 10 minutes and again he tells me the bedbugs are gone for good. I think he is full of it.
