Well, this is the first sit-down dining experience I've had since March 2020 (outside)....and believe me when I tell you it was worth the wait. Friend and I were cycling thru, starving, and decided to give this place a try. We were highly impressed by almost everything: tables are safely spaced out (because of COVID), servers and staff were all masked, everybody was welcoming and friendly, there's a bike rack for our bikes, ice cold water was offered almost immediately....and that's to say nothing of the food, which was delicious. I ordered a hamburger that came with standard toppings (see picture), along with bacon (called "pig candy), onion shoestrings, and bbq sauce, with homemade kettle chips and a pickle (also amazingly delicious). My friend ordered a pulled pork sandwich with bbq sauce, and he was equally satisfied. His only wish is that there were more bbq sauce in the sandwich, because he ended up requesting a side of the stuff, no big deal. So if you're cycling through and need a reward or motivation to continue, do yourself a favor and stop by. The Eclipse Company Store is the place to be in the Plains/Athens Ohio area, it recently opened a few months ago, I was in town during the Ohio Brew Week and packed. Popular stop along the Athens bike trail, so many bicycle riders taking a break from the trail (there's also a bike shop nearby where you can rent bikes) and huge draft beer selection. We visited on a Saturday and it was hard to make a decision on what beer to drink as they had over 30 choices, I went with a flight of 4 which was only $5 and wide selection of craft beers from all over Ohio (it was Ohio Brew week) I will return on a future visit, nearby friends home in the Plains and good to see a bar and food joint away from the hustle of uptown Athens, always for venturing out exploring & Eclipse Company store is work the visit! read more

Cute and quaint hidden gem in Athens! Enjoyed the southwestern salad. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy and full of flavor. The black bean and corn salad was the perfect addition to the salad. My fiancé enjoyed one chicken and one brisket taco which he said were both full of flavor. Topped off with a side of kettle chips. Definitely will be back when we're in the area again. The perfect pit stop. I accompanied one of my best friends here for a birthday celebration dinner this past Friday evening. It was an overall good experience, but with a couple pain points along the way. When we arrived close to 7, the whole place was absolutely packed. With self-serve seating, and a large group, this was pretty worrisome because we all wanted to sit together. However, it became apparent that we were at the end of the dinner crowd and, as people started to leave, we were able to snag a long table big enough for all of us. Having never been here before, I wasn't super sure how the ordering process worked, and there wasn't really anyone around to ask. Eventually we figured out that you had to wait in line, in separate lines, for food and drinks. The bar line moved pretty quickly and I was able to try the Jackie O's (one of like 30 beers available on tap) which I was happy with, but when it came to ordering shots the bar tender was pretty clueless. I tried to order green tea shots, which I feel like is a pretty classic mixed shot, and the bar tender 1. didn't know what was in them, and 2. was unable to recommend something else that she could make. She ended up looking up the recipe on her phone and mixing the strongest green tea shots I've ever had. I guess that's both a good and bad thing, but by the end of this ordeal I was pretty annoyed. After waiting in line for drinks, patrons are then expected to wait in another line to order food. While the bar line moved quickly, the food line moved dreadfully slow. I probably waited in line for 20+ minutes just to put my order in. Based on what I experienced when I finally made it to the front, people were unaware that on most entrees they needed to choose a side and sauce for their food, or they didn't already have a tab open. These two things really slowed down the line and kept me away from my friends. Patrons are given a buzzer so they can be alerted when their food is ready, which I really appreciate because then you can relax a little instead of anxiously waiting for your food. I was super excited to try my Stuffed Grilled Cheese with Pulled Pork (recommended by a member of our party), and from the picture, you can see, it looks really great. It was delicious, however, I wouldn't really call it a grilled cheese. It was on Texas toast, and did have cheese on it, but the cheese was really outshone by the pork. That being said, the meat was perfectly cooked, and paired with the Caroline BBQ sauce, it was delicious. It was a lot of food; definitely enough to take some home if you have self control. In the end, with beer and food in my stomach, I was pleased with my experience here and was enjoying myself. The place really calmed down after the dinner rush and we were able to hang out and talk for several hours without feeling guilty for taking up a huge gable. The few pain points I mentioned aren't enough to keep me away, especially if I'm in Athens for a special occasion. Overall, with my beer, 4 shots, my entree, and a tip, I spent $36, which I felt was a good value! read more

The patio is comfortable and the servers are all very personable. Especially the waitress Anna, she's super funny and always makes us feel at home! Definitely recommend. Eclipse is trying to do something. They want to be a laidback, American country version of a German beer hall. They mostly pull it off. If you like beer, they are definitely worth checking out. The atmosphere is very noticeable. Like a beer hall, they have long tables that mean you'll likely share a table with strangers. I've never been in when it's crowded, so it's not like you'll be closer together than in a typical restaurant, but it's a nice touch. As an improvement to that look, they have individual chairs with backs. I'm almost 40. I'm done with benches. The walls are sparse, painted over brick. The main decorations are giant boards listing their beers. It has a bright, open feeling that I appreciate. Getting food and drink is a little complicated. There are separate lines for each. The lines can be a little slow, especially the food, so divide and conquer. Then, you get a buzzer, so you can sit down to wait for your food. The beer selection is very nice. A lot of local brews (like Jackie O's), some stuff you never heard of. At that time, they were all American beers. I don't know if that's policy or just coincidence. Unlike a lot of breweries, they are not married to dark, hoppy beers. They have some ciders, some fruit beers, some hefeweizens. As all these places are, they are short on lagers, but thank goodness they have things other than IPAs and stouts with random desserts thrown in. The food is better than fine, but not at all memorable. I have tried the Wisconsin Beer Brat, the Big Pig, the Loaded 3-Cheese Macaroni, the Brisket Reuben, the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, and the Eggplant Tots. I don't remember anything being bad, but the only thing that stands out is the Eggplant Tots, which I expected to dislike, but they were an interesting twist on tater tots. Mostly, it's barbecue, burgers, and bar food that pairs well with beer. This is a place for beer lovers. It's nice for a lazy Sunday afternoon with good company. While the process of getting food is not perfect and the food isn't amazing, if you love beer, everything will work out. read more

Food is not nearly as good as when Kiser owned it. The guy who runs it now owns a bunch of fast food restaurants -- and you can tell... Menu is small and food is pedestrian. Beer is the same -- no chances taken here -- the selection is based on what they can buy cheap -- even the good beers are available at the local drive through. Not a good sign for a "beer hall". The sound at the outdoor stage sucks. The old owners used to spring for a real sound company -- now they have an inexperienced employee run sound using cheap equipment. Used to be good. read more

Because of the virus, services were understandably limited, but online ordering for eating outside was easy, although we waited a little while. Biggest complaint is the strawberry chicken wrap was loaded with blue cheese. Ordinarily, that would be a GOOD thing! But it's not noted on their menu, which might have swung one of the people in our party (who hates blue cheese) to order something different! This is my new favorite bar in Athens! While visiting Ohio University, in an attempt to relive the magical days of my youth, I found this hidden gem of a beer hall that will now be my go-to outdoor summer hangout spot in the area. I actually discovered this place by searching Yelp for nearby outdoor dining. We were looking for someplace close to campus, but surprisingly there are not many Athens restaurants with outdoor seating. The Eclipse Company Store showed up as very highly rated, but I was confused by the name so I called to make sure it was actually a bar/restaurant and not a store, as one might assume from the name. Anyways, this place is a bar/restaurant and so much more! Their beer selection is vast with lots of local crafts and they also offer a lot of bourbon and bourbon-based cocktails. I had the mint ginger bourbon ale and the jalapeño julep. Both with Bullet bourbon. Highly recommend both! They have a full bar and also offer wine and plenty of non-alcoholic beverages as well. The food menu is huge and everything looks/sound delicious so it was hard to decide. We went with the homemade loaded chips with pulled pork. They were fresh and clearly made with quality ingredients. Unfortunately, we gorged ourselves on the appetizer and were too full to try any of the other yummy menu items. Next time! Besides the great food and drinks, the atmosphere was probably my favorite part of this place. It's very chill and laid back and the perfect spot to just lounge on a patio and relax with good company. It's kid and dog friendly and they are setup for outdoor concerts, although there was not a band on the day we visited. I cannot say enough good things about this spot. We were seated immediately, and our waitress came quickly. The place was full of bicyclists, and she started by pointing to the water jugs,which she said we could use to fill our water bottles. The draft beer selection is fantastic, with about 35 choices on the first floor alone. There are beers (and ciders) from local breweries as well as from breweries in many other states. There are also nonalcoholic choices such as home brewed root beer on tap, for children and those not interested in beer. The foods that I have had were very tasty. There aren't a lot of menu choices, but all the choices would go well with beer. The service is very good and efficient, with staff circulating through the area to take care of refills and settling your tab. I certainly plan to visit again in the near future. read more

Had this planned as a stop for our group motorcycle trip. We had contacted the establishment a week in advance and then the morning of our visit so they knew we had a large group coming. Got seated right away and got drinks ok. Ordered food and then waited over an hour for our food. We had several tables and one table was served and also received dessert before any of the other tables were even served. Let me tell you this was all on one check. By the time everyone was served we had well over 2.5 hrs waisted there when we should of been on the road. All we were told several times was "your food should be out shortly ". Once food was served some was only warm and not hot. We were afraid to send anything back since how long it took to get. They were also out of some desserts that people wanted. This was one of the worst experiences I have had. Good thing we don't live close because I would not recommend this place to anybody. read more

Was so excited to visit Eclipse during their opening week! They certainly have one of the largest selections of beers on draft in town. However, I didn't like how the beer menu was organized on the walls of the venue; it wasn't possible to see all of the beers at once. Service at the bar was very prompt, and my beers were great. But my bill came to $15 for two beers, which is very steep for Athens. Friends ordered some appetizers to share, including the breaded eggplant tots, pierogis, and loaded homemade chips. All were tasty, although the chips were difficult to eat as a shared dish (i.e., without a fork). The venue is very cool and includes a pool table and board games downstairs as well as a ping pong table and hammerhead shark county fair-type game (random) upstairs. There was live music while we were there and, although we enjoyed it, the music was too loud, which prompted us to venture upstairs. Had dinner here with my son and his wife. I love the 'off the beaten path' location and the overall feel of the place; kinda like an old beer hall with long tables in a big open room. They also had outdoor seating and a live band but we chose to sit inside. This is a counter-order place and the food was slow coming but was very good. I had the Garden Burger and loved it. The Stewed Beans were really, really good too. Table service would help make it feel more personal or at least offering complimentary chips or bread to help offset the wait would help. A co-worker told me about the Eclipse Company Store. He said it is right off of Route 33, but you would never know. He said we had to stop by. So yesterday we did, and it really is right off the highway. Hidden in plain site. It is a beautiful wooden building that is open on the inside with long tables and chairs. You order both your beer and food at the counter. They have 40 beer taps. With that kind of selection I'm certain you can find a beer that will please you and quench your thirst. I went with The Post Road Pumpkin Ale from Brooklyn Brewery. It suited the weather outside. We did not try any food on this particular stop but they did have a wide array of food options such as Eggplant Tots. I really want to give those a try next time. Eclipse also sells local items such as soap, coffee mugs, pint glasses, and Christmas ornaments. In the summer they have an outdoor stage with a concert schedule. It was cold out yesterday but the bartender told us the summer months a popular due to the outdoor music stage and the fact that their location is right next to the bike path. Average hipster bar and "BBQ" place. Nothing exciting about it. I got a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and one whiskey cocktail - the bill was 22$. Absurd. The pork had decent flavor but wasnt very hot and was drier than desired, and the sauce (Sweet and spicy) was ok. The bread was too big for the portion of meat you got and was incredibly dry. Potato salad was slightly better than your local Kroger's version. I was expecting something exceptional; I got maybe a 6/10 meal. Maybe another side with the meal, juicer meat that was actually hot, and a better bun would warrant the pricetag. It was a 8$ sandwich and 5$ drink at best. Not sure where they are getting 22$ from. Location is cool and has the off the beaten path kind of feel. I get the vibe and could see how this can get pretty busy during the summer months. Maybe I should've ordered the brisket. read more

My daughter, niece and I ate here for dinner on a Friday night. They offer seating outdoors, inside and upstairs. We opted for outside because it was a nice fall evening. The atmosphere was nice. My Burger was suppose to be well down but arrived medium. However they took to back and made me a new plate. The waitress was really nice about it and gave me chips to eat while I waited. She explained that they were training two new people in the kitchen. My niece ordered the Insanity Later Burger with chips. She said it was really good and spicy. My daughter ordered the Jerk Burger. She said it was really good, a little bit spicy, just a bit of a kick, but in a good way. I ordered the Burger with No Name. It was good but my daughter and I agree that the Jerk was better. The chips are homemade and good. The side salad was really good and fresh. Next time I will try a dinner salad. There are over 40 beers on draft. So many to choose from. The bike path runs right beside the restaurant and on the other side is a bike shop. I plan to return on bikes with my husband. This is a neat restaurant and very good food. read more
