I notice a new cooking class called Marche @ Mitsuwa after reading it from the weekly flyer. I forgot about it and went there to get my Tokyo Ginza Rokumeikan jelly fix. I never had crack but this jelly was so addicting like crack. There was a new kitchen with 2 TVs on top and a giant announcement in front of it. Something about cooking class at 10 am, 2 pm and 5 pm for Saturday and Sunday. The menu was Chawanmushi for Saturday and Beef Minute Steak with Red Onion Sauce for Sunday. I asked the chef how much the cost of its cooking class and he said that it was a free demonstration. It was 4 pm so I thought I would just wait and take advantage of the free class. The class started on time and at first there were only a few of us. People started to gather around pretty quick. The recipe was very simple but it was interesting. He demonstrated step by step and xeroxed recipe was available for free. We even tasted the delicious beef steak after the class. I forgot the name of the chef but he was very funny and knowledgeable. He even showed us little tricks that would make cooking easier. This cooking class is great for both customers and Mitsuwa itself. Customers can learn new recipe and get the ingredients from Mitsuwa after class. The chef even let us know that one of the ingredients is on sale. I am sure Mitsuwa will get additional revenue at the market from this smart "demonstration" ;) "Learn it", "Try it", "Taste it". No signup needed.

They still needed assistance. This created a minimum of 20 minutes of the teacher trying to assist all these students who were lost. I felt like she relied on other students to help those students who needed help which isn't fair. They should have a prerequisite to this class MUST know basic microsoft, how to use a mouse, how to save/ download documents into a folder, etc. I decided to stop going to the class since the teacher had to focus on these others students and then when everyone was finally on the same page. She would literally rush through the chapter since of course our class was behind. I'm giving it 3 stars since this isn't the teacher's fault or the students. The school needs to do a better job in making some of these courses to having a prerequisite pertaining to that course.

Chef Andy's workshop happens once a month on a random Wednesday and it's geared towards complete beginners with no experience necessary. I have to admit that when we first got there, the kitchen and the general area seemed a bit sketch, but we were warmly greeted by the staff. We were told to get there 10 minutes prior because the workshop starts promptly at 6:00 p.m. It was a small intimate group of less than 10 students with Chef Andy leading the way. Over the course of 90 minutes, we were able to make two sushi balls (salmon and shrimp), a California roll, salmon poke, and a small hand roll. The last 30 minutes was spent eating our creations and taking pictures. This workshop really gave me some confidence to try to make my own sushi at home! My only regret is that we didn't take a picture with Chef Andy because we were too busy admiring and devouring our own work!

Porsche pointed out the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Hollywood that she attended. She gave us pointers on how to shop at farmers' markets and buying produce and allowed us a few minutes of free time to shop on our own. Once back at EATZ, where Porsche is also a cooking instructor, we had Mimosas and snacked on baguette slices and very fresh goat cheese in olive oil that she purchased from the market. We began with the panne cotta - yes, life is uncertain, start with the dessert!! This dish needed time to set. We prepared the fresh beautiful strawberries for the dessert as well. Each team of 2 had their own cooking station and burner. Just perfect for all of us. We made the pasta with basil and set it aside to soften. We worked on the roasted tomatoes with garlic and then the stuffed mushrooms with spinach, shallots, garlic and cream cheese, sprinkled with bread crumbs. We began the meat sauce and when the roasted tomatoes were ready, Porsche pulsated them in a food processor and added it to our meat sauce. Our workout began as we rolled out our pasta. Yes, that was definitely a workout, but so rewarding. We all got the technique down. We learned the correct thickness of the pasta and how to cut and separate them before cooking. Definitely a good appreciation for handmade pasta!! We were then treated to a delicious meal of our own creation!! Devine!! Porsche will be emailing all the recipes after the class. My daughter and I highly recommend take a great afternoon with Porsche and taking her class. She has several menus to select from and we will definitely return in the future!! Thank you, Porsche - you are amazing!!

I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised. This tour was full of great information about San Pedro and fantastic food. Chef Porsche was very knowledgable and suggested of other places to visit besides the stops on our tour. The tour included 5 stops and it covered burgers, cuban food, fish and chips, bake goods and a stop at a tea house. Our tour started off at Bunz Gourmet Burgers ( small mom and pops shop) fantastic burger. Will have to come back for more. We went to Cuban restaurant called Punto Cubano with great character and decor. There we had a cuban sandwich that was amazing. Obviously there's other stuff in the menu that you are more than welcome to order at your own cost. We had a delicious flan :-) we had a few stops in between and learned about the San Pedro Port history and other spots. We then hit The Whale and Ale (English pub) for some delicious fish and chips. Alcohol not included in the tour but available for purchase. I couldn't help myself so I had a guinness. We then went over to Hojas for some delicious chai tea that hit the right spot. Hard to pick a favorite as everything was very very good, and if I may add the food portions are just right. Enough to leave you stuffed. Overall the tour was fantastic. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for something new and fun to do. It supports local businesses and is something that you can do on a date, with family, friends or even Solo. You'll meet great people on the tour. I look forward to future tours from Chef Porsche. Thank you Porsche for introducing me to a new are in San Pedro that I would've not know about on my own but will definitely be visiting again soon.
