Ebony seriously makes the best food in slo!! They are so kind and their food is absolutely delicious!!! They're currently selling at 153 cross st, go support them!!!

    Meal for two

I've only come to SLO twice and visited this restaurant both times. Tucked into a hallway with a back patio, this place has become an absolute favorite of mine. I've gotten the meal for two (~$40) on both occasions. The mushroom tibs are my favorite, followed closely by the potatoes and beets. Plenty of extra injera and the food is served atop an injera as well. The food is flavorful, healthy, vegan-friendly, and overall delicious. I also tried the teff brownie ($5) and it was a good sweet treat for the end of the meal. A little tough for my liking but still good. The service is also really great. The owner is extremely nice and friendly. You order at the counter, she provides a number and the food is brought out to you on a beautiful woven basket.

FOOD: Such a great alternative for vegans/vegetarians. Don't be fooled by the look because everything we had was delicious and filling. It's a type of food meant for sharing. Eat with your hands is definitely the best way to eat it but they do provide a spoon. There were 4 of us so we had the family style for two (4 options and a salad) and a single (2 options and a salad) all served with injera (pancake/crepe to help pick up the food and eat with it). SERVICE: It was our first time and know nothing about Ethiopian food and so we asked the server for recommendations and she suggested plenty and everything was delicious. She recommended Spicy Misir Wot (best seller), Aterkik Alicha Wot, Enguday Tibs and Shiro Wot. She mentioned an off menu dish and it was cooked beets and carrots. Quick service and very nice and welcoming staff and owner(s). AMBIANCE: Very cute interior that showcases different Ethiopian made items and such. Plenty of seats indoors and outdoors (on the patio by the creek). Quiet for the most part but on the patio, some less fortunate people staying around the creek can blurt obscenities or scream them out so fair warning. Other than that, a beautiful peaceful interior.

I am so incredibly sad i will not be able to come here anymore. Me and my husband LOVE this place so so much. It has a special place in our hearts. We have came here for celebrations, date nights, and truly just when we wanted to smile and eat delicious food together.

Cute and authentic Ethiopian restaurant in Downtown San Luis Obispo. We stumbled upon this location, but it's centrally located and backs up to the scenic creek for patio dining. We had just eaten, but came in on a cold day and enjoyed Ethiopian tea with cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. Service was personable. Menu looks tantalizing with lots of vegetarian options.

While visiting San Luis Obispo, my husband and I wanted to try a new cuisine in our search we decided on Ethiopian food. Ebony's restaurant had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. Ebony's was located across a small bridge along a little creek. There was various seating options available such as bar tops, indoor tables, and patio seating. Our orders were taken at the counter by a very friendly young man. We opted for the family meal for 2. We chose the spicy misir wot which consisted of simmered red lentils with onions and an Ethiopian spice. Enguday tibs which was portobello mushrooms saiteed with onions and peppers. Shiro wot which was a paste like sauce made with chickpeas and lastly Denech alicha wot which consisted of potatoes and carrots cooked with onions and turmeric. Along with the dishes was injera (Ethiopia's version of roti). The meal was brought out in a lovely basket displayed in a very inviting way. My husband and I helped ourselves to each dish enjoying all of them. I think our favorite of the 4 was the spicy misir wot although we both really enjoyed the denech alicha wot too. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed our first foray into Ethiopian cuisine.

Three different menu items on the rolled injera. SOOOOOO good!

I can't eat gluten or dairy and rarely eat out because so little is safe for me to consume. Enter Ebony. Ebony took over where Bliss Cafe used to be, in the Network Mall on Higuera St. The space is welcoming and soothing, with bright colors and comfy seating all around. You order at the counter and I really couldn't decide which dish to get. I got three items and oooh it was so good!!!! Lentils and mushrooms and kale, all on a delicious rolled injera. It was enough for two meals. I *strongly* encourage you to check out this local, woman-owned business.

Great service and delicious food! I often seek out Ethiopian food whenever I have the opportunity since it's hard to come by where I live. My visit to Ebony definitely satisfied my cravings and I was able to purchase a spice blend too so that I can try to recreate the flavors next time I get desperate. I went on a Sunday so the menu was limited to a few brunch items. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes here. What a great addition to downtown SLO!

Phew, this food was goooood. The spicy misir (red lentil) and the potatoe carrot combo were my fav. The tea and ginger beer was so fresh and special. The service was friendly and helpful. The little goodies they sell are worth perusing too, super unique and beautiful. I think this place deserves more attention for the ambiance and style/decor. Just walking around is a feast to the eyes in my opinion and I can't wait to bring my next visitor here for lunch.

Greeted by joyful staff who walked us through the menu and helped us order. Everything was delicious! Looking forward with hopes of them finding a new location so we can return. Yum!!!

The half-order includes two dishes with rolls of injera.

Finally, an Ethiopian restaurant has arrived in SLO-town. I feel so full after ordering the half-dish with their red lentils and the daily special of cooked kale. Best of all it's all healthy. This cuisine is one of the oldest in the world and it is believed that the Queen of Sheba ruled this area at the time of King Solomon. Its traditions are from an ancient civilization with strong Christian-ties. Short of visiting the country, you can enjoy this delicious food while listening to very cool music. The location is inside the Network building where Bliss used to be and the shaded outdoor seating is still next to the creek and Mission Plaza. Highly recommend.

We stopped by here for a late lunch on our road trip. It's such a lovely spot. At first it looks like industrial and then you notice their sign and a lovely office like place at the back. The owner was extremely welcoming and gave us a little intro on Ethiopian food for our friends who hadn't tried the cuisine before, which was a very nice experience. They ran out of most of the dishes by the time we got there. They have a lot of pre orders, she even suggested we text her next time so she can save them for us. We went ahead with the combo option. The food was so delicious, it was mostly different kind of lentils. Each one had its own unique flavor and was just finger licking good. The portion size is rather small, we had to order at least 4 extra injera. We also got a mushroom side which was my favorite. The service was even better. It's completely organic, vegan and gluten free. I'd definitely recommend and wanna go back to try other dishes we couldn't.

As college staff taking students on a Central Coast campus tour during spring break, we needed a place for lunch on short notice. When I called, the staff was incredibly helpful and connected me with Caitlin via email. Not only did she respond quickly, but she was also kind, flexible, and truly accommodating throughout the process. From the moment we arrived, everything was handled seamlessly. Organizing a group of our size is no small task, but the team managed it with professionalism, patience, and genuine care. The seating was thoughtfully arranged, service was efficient, and every member of our group felt welcomed and taken care of. The food came out in a timely manner, was well-prepared, and absolutely amazing! It was so nice to see everyone enjoying their meals, and it really added to the overall positive experience. Even when we decided to order dessert at the last minute, the staff remained gracious and accommodating. We are incredibly grateful for the effort and flexibility shown to us. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone--especially those planning group events. Thank you for making our visit such a success!

Other than that, though, the place is very clean with a cute slightly rustic modern aesthetic going on and the food is all really good! I got a truffle burger, Mac and cheese with chorizo, and Brussel sprouts with bleu cheese and mushrooms! The menu is a little on the pricier side for what you're getting but always worth a taste and try!

Love the thin crust and flavor which was distinctly meaty with tomato sauce to cut through. It could have used more toppings for the price and it was also slightly burnt on the edges of some of the crust so we couldn't enjoy it fully. Also the slices weren't evenly cut through but luckily it was easy to split it apart. Overall very enjoyable meal and a nice date night vibe inside. Would definitely come back if we're in the area.

Helpful staff guided us with their patron favs. Started with: 1) meatballs: flavorful & tender (probably added panade). Marinara nicely balanced. Pistachio pesto added a nice nutty accent. Great dish. 2) mixed berry salad: spring salad greens with plump fresh berries. Pinkish berry vinaigrette was nice. Tasted similar to a 1,000 isle type dressing. 3) three pea pizza: buddy doesn't like goat cheese so ordered it on the side. Crust was great, veggies fresh & colorful. It really needs the goat cheese though. Otherwise it lacks dimension. I was able to sprinkle on my pieces. Made a world of difference. 4) bee stang: crust had crisp edges. Middle got a bit soggy from toppings. My NYC buddy loved the ability to fold it in half though. Great overall flavor. The hot honey added just the right amount of tang/tart. Tasted as good as it looked.

I placed my order on the kiosk, which I found very easy to use. I ordered Smoothie 5 and Panini 6. This came out to $36.97. For the smoothie, I subbed out strawberries (because I'm allergic) and added bananas. I found that to be a really great option that they have at no extra charge. For the panini, I didn't realize they had half and full orders until I got up to the kiosk. I opted for the full order, and then realized once I sat down that I probably would have been better off with the half option. My smoothie arrived at the table at 11:49, whereas my panini arrived at 11:53, so the wait in total was about 15 minutes which is not bad at all for how busy it was. My friends ordered the Greens 5 with prosciutto, Toast 4, Bowl 1, Bowl 6, and everyone agreed that we would definitely come back. One thing that was funny to us is that we felt like the photos on the menu looked smaller than the portions that actually arrived. My friend ordered the Greens and a Bowl thinking it would be small, and she realized very quickly that she was going to need a takeout box for her salad. (This is a good problem to have, rather than the other way around!). The service was also top notch. Even though I ordered on the kiosk, I was still able to interact with the employees, as they frequently came around to ask if they could clear off plates from our table. I also went up to the front to ask for a box, and she kindly directed me to where the boxes were located that I could just grab. Next time, I would definitely mentally prepare myself for how busy it is, but for the quality of ingredients, and the portion size, I think it is great and would definitely come back.
