One of the single best meals we've had anywhere in Tennessee. We're southern born and have lived here forever. This place is completely different. Great Surf & Turf, great ambiance, good beer options, but MAN... the food we had was something special! We opted for the Potsticker appetizer. I'll preface this by saying, I've had potstickers from everywhere you can imagine, cheap spots, fancy-pants restaurants, the grocery frozen section, homemade and everything in between. Having been to China twice, I'm well acquainted with how far Americanized cuisine palates have taken Asian flavors off the reservation. This was not the case with these. Single best and single most authentic flavors of potstickers I've had since I was in the Orient. Amazing. I opted for the grouper entree while the wife got the snapper. To be fair, her snapper needed a bit of seasoning, but only bc she was supposed to have received it blackened. Alas, the missed the seasoning, but it was fresh, cooked well, and delicious! My grilled grouper was tasty, the rice pilaf a nice complement, and while not the sides we wanted (they were sold out of broccoli and asparagus) the mashed potatoes and brown gravy were also finger lickin good. The beer we opted for was the German Paulaner, which we've had before and knew we liked, but didn't know they carried anywhere on tap outside of Nashville. We met family here to have a nice dinner, we heard amazing things. The waitress was very nice but unfortunately nothing else was quite up to par. 1 -Drinks, half the ingredients needed to make the drinks were missing or they didn't have in stock. 2- Food was cold by the time everyone was served 3- Fishy taste to several of the dishes that were not "fish" related items.. including the steak. 4- Reservations at 7PM, didn't eat until around 0830PM. (Food took a while to come out) Honestly very overpriced for the overall meals considering the issues we had. We had high hopes and were looking forward to this meal together. We ate here tonight for our seventh anniversary. It was delicious! Our waitress was awesome, and they even had live music! We had the lobster stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. They were great! We both had side salads, which were amazing. The lettuce was crisp and fresh, the tomatoes were just the right size for nice forkfuls, and the salads themselves were larger than at most restaurants. For my entrée I had the blackened snapper with a rice pilaf and mashed potatoes with gravy. My boyfriend had the 14 oz ribeye with mashed potatoes and gravy. We were both blown away by the size of the entrées. There was no way we could leave hungry. The snapper was seasoned nicely, and the ribeye was so tender my boyfriend hardly used the steak knife to cut it up. The lady doing the live music was great! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely be back. We were here on a Saturday night. I don't know if they have live music every night or not. Also, I recommend making reservations. We didn't, and we were lucky they had a table available when we arrived. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but you can't hear the live music as well outside. They have a bar as well, if you enjoy that type of thing. The restaurant is across the street from the historic Carthage courthouse. It is also part of the historic downtown area of Carthage. Just a few doors up is the historic Walton Hotel, which I also highly recommend, and a number of other small town businesses you should definitely check out if you are in the area. read more

We always stop in for a drink when we are in the area. We decided to come for lunch. We sat at the bar. We wanted to order the Big Bacon burger to share and asked for the sauce on the side since I don't like the sauce. The older bartender said, they won't make modifications, you'll have to order a Build Your Own Burger. Perhaps they are already pre-made? The creole fries don't come with the Build Your Own Burger either and it isn't what we preferred to order or we would have chosen that option to begin with. The build your own burger was good, nothing special to bring us back for another. We still stop in for a drink from time to time, but don't order food as I usually always ask to have a "modification" with the sauce on the side or no sauce at all. read more

It's a new streamlined menu to get food out faster for the lunch crowd the waitress explained (I might add it was around 4 pm when we were there last time).Since we saw nothing we wanted to order we waited and waited for our check and the waitress or manager to come around so we could pay. Whatever you do, only order the shrimp and rice if you want an appetizer. The layout of the menu implies it's a meal, but I've never seen such a sad display of a meal - a bed of rice made up of about 3 tablespoons of cooked rice that tasted like it came from a box of Rice-a-Roni. The food took a really long time (which in June 2021 could be a result of staff shortages). Our server was a delight and the ambiance was festive (albeit sooo loud inside with a small live band you couldn't hold a conversation so we sat outside). There aren't a ton of options in town, and you'll be fine here if you order a sandwich and a beer. read more

We got to Ebels Tavern around 2:30pm in the afternoon. There was only 3 tables occupied in the restaurant. There was only 1 girl waiting tables. She finally got to us after about 10 minutes of sitting. She took our drink order and was fairly prompt to bring it. We were really surprised when she gave us the menu and she said that this was all they serve on Saturday. ‍. Ok so my wife was really wanting a burger and there wasn't one on the menu ‍ After looking over the menu for a couple minutes I had to hail the waitress over to the table. We ordered appetizers and the meal at the same time. They were reasonably prompt with the appetizers and they were delicious! We finished up the appetizers fairly quickly because we were both quite hungry . After that we waited, and waited, and waited until we actually thought they could have possibly lost the order. So, once again I hailed the waitress who had been past our table several times now as to an ETA on our food. She went back and immediately brought us our order, which had to have been sitting there waiting on her to pick up. I'm not in a big big hurry but after a while something has to give. The food was AWESOME! It was seasoned well, and proportions were wonderful! The only problem was that it could have been a little hotter to the table, but flavor made up for that. Seriously, it was worth the wait! In closing, I think we will for sure be back to Ebels Tavern. The Tavern was very cute and warm feeling. Outside of this, the atmosphere was way to noisy. We were unable to communicate with each other. Our server was very sweet and polite! The wait was terrible and the food was so salty it was absolutely impossible to eat. We picked other options, which continued to come out salty. We did get 50% off our bill, which was acceptable, except, there were several dishes that we did not touch because of the whole jar of salt they used in the kitchen. Unfortunately, we will not return. We left a normal tip though because again, our server was amazing, understanding, and went as fast as the kitchen allowed her. My lady and I went there on 9/9. The business is till getting its footing, which I get. The only ding I have was that we both ordered tavern burgers, and my lady's was not supposed to have mayo (it did). However, it was graciously re-made, and they let us keep the messed up burger. Our wait was not that long at all for our food, The wait staff and owners were very friendly, the cost was reasonable, and the atmosphere was definitely like a tavern. I can't wait until they can start serving liquor so that she can actually have a drink. Right now it's beer and soft drinks only. I have seen this place a few times while in town . After river trip decided to give it a try . This place was awesome ! Aesthetics of the outside and inside are appealing . We went in during a dead period, pre-dinner and live music , so no wait ! ALL the staff welcomed us and we were immediately sat. Both the waitresses were polite and cute ! After 4 is dinner , but we saw the lunch menu briefly , which had a lot of good looking choices , dinner menu was full of variety as wel. Our party of 3 all decided upon the steak sandwich . DAMN WAS IT GOOD ! Can't be eaten as a sandwich though . Large hoagie style bun, LOADED with meat, cheese , mushrooms and onions, TOPPED with gravy and a pile of EPIC mashed potatoes ! Food and service were not the usual and I was very bothered that when I asked for ketchup they brought me a small cup of it and charged me on my bill. Took my wife and our Granddaughter out for her 13th. birthday dinner tonight 2-18-22. Waitress was nice & friendly. I ordered the fried Grouper entrée and asparagus w/ almonds & the beer battered onion rings. Wife ordered the Tavern burger & Granddaughter ordered the Portobello & Swiss mushroom burger. On my order, the Grouper came out baked, and not fried as ordered. The asparagus was tough and burnt on the ends and w/o a single almond. The onion rings were way overdone. Wife's Tavern burger was cold, and her onion rings were well done & cold too. Granddaughter's burger didn't have a mushroom to be found on it and it was cold as well as her onion rings. Only thing that was right was the Fried Green Tomato appetizer, they were delicious and hot. This is the fourth time (and the last) that we've ate there, and the worst food we've ever received. When I first walked in I knew I would love this place! Low ceilings, brick walls, dark and cozy. Perfect! Ordered the reuben and the sweet potato fries, even though I really don't like them; thought I would try them. After scarfing down the first batch, my dining companion asked if I wanted a second. Yes, I did, but I exercised restraint, and it wasn't easy. These are the best I have ever had! Hot, fresh, crisp, seasoned just right, with a sweet sauce that is indescribably delicious. So I asked the waitress for butter and by the time we got the butter my wife had finished her baked potato in which half of the potato was hard as a rock.
