The person did not repeat my order back to me, when I got to the window, they tried to charge me for someone else's order, I ordered lemonade and was not told that they only had the hibiscus lemonade and I was just given that, I asked for a Coke instead and was given a root beer which I discovered when I got home, and part of the food order was also wrong once I got home and actually looked at the food. That is not an ADA requirement, and there is no official vest, registration, or certification required for a legitimate service animal in the United States. Under the ADA, businesses cannot require proof of documentation, demand certification papers, or refuse entry simply because a service animal is not vested. A service animal handler also cannot legally be asked to leave unless the animal is out of control or causing a disturbance that the handler does not correct. The only questions staff are permitted to ask are: 1. Is the animal required because of a disability? 2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform? Policies rooted in misinformation create unnecessary humiliation and barriers for disabled individuals who already face enough challenges in public spaces. Businesses should take the time to properly educate their staff on ADA laws instead of enforcing requirements that simply do not exist.
