Food is okay. It used to be really good but almost every thing on the menu is frozen and canned. The food that is homemade is inconsistent. But when it's right, it's good! The burgers are my favorite! The salad bar is kinda small but good selections. Service is very hit or miss. You may get an amazing server who is attentive and helpful OR you may get a server that you only see when they take your order. But for the most part, they're very nice and friendly. The ambiance is, well it's a small town restaurant. Very basic and simple. I do wish there was a tv or radio. Also, I wish the tables were more spread apart or maybe a clear path to get out. I really don't like people squeezing by to get to their table. The butt or crotch in the face can be annoying. Overall, I would and will be going back. OK... for all you worldly travelers and admirers, you will probably never make it anywhere near this place, and I doubt many area residents will find the review, but Im going to post it anyway. Its good to know that mom and pop style places still exist. This observation comes from someone who lives in a sprawling, undefined metro area. Nothing fancy, but clean and efficient. The daily special, aka meat and 3 is a deal if there ever was one. Hamburger steak, corn, cole slaw, and beans was the order and did not disappoint in the least. Very filling, not institutional tasting that you find at the chain type places. The desserts are truly homemade from scratch and will make your mouth water when you see them in the dessert case. read more

This little restaurant is great! We found it on the Yelp App. When we pulled into the parking lot it was full of vehicles. You could definitely tell this was a spot the locals favored. They had several specials. We all ate something different and everything was very good. It is rare that we choose dessert when we eat out. But their homemade pies were inexpensive and looked too good to pass up. And they did not disappoint! We recommend the coconut cream pie! The employees were all so friendly and personable. So glad we decided to drive off the beaten path to our destination or we would not have known about this place. We had the meat and two. It was okay. We didn't like the Texas toast with the bitter butter, so go with another bread. The place clean but no workers wore mask. Get'n the car kids, I'm too tired to cook... Cathy's is the place to go when you're too tired to cook at home or just feel like a good homecooked meal without having to do the dishes later. Nothing fancy, no special seasonings or sauces. Just good southern food without the work or cleanup. :) They have the special of the day and also do takeout. I've noticed the salad bar looks quite tasty as well but have not tried that yet. Locals like to gather here after church on Sundays for a good meal and friendly conversation. This is A good place to go on a Friday night for all you can eat catfish or if your not in the mood for fish you can order one of the specials or just off the menu. They have reasonable prices and their fish is really good. All in all really good for A small town. read more

We were heading back to Indiana and my son suggested driving up 231 instead of 65. We did and came across this little restaurant. It was a Sunday morning and right after church for the locals so the place was hopping. We waited a bit for our drinks and to have our order taken. Hubby had ham omlette and I had scrambled eggs and bacon. The bacon was very flavorful and he said his ham was good. We both had the biscuit and were pleased. Cathy's is far better than average meat and three and the best restaurant in the Westmoreland/Bethpage/Lafayette area. To get better catfish you have to drive up to Harper's in Scottsville (well worth the drive, btw), but Cathy's is way better than Midgetts. The burgers at Cathy's are exceptional, better than ANY fast food, Five Guys, Chili's, Friday's, name it. Incredible burger like you'd make at home. Buffalo home fries are excellent. People seem to love the spaghetti and breakfast. Desserts are great, especially pies and pecan pie is tops. Somebody knows what they're doing in that kitchen. Salad bar is limited but generally fresh. The addition of garbanzo beans, kidney beans, would make for a protein salad. Fruit tea is epic. I do wish they'd use more fresh veggies from local farms in the summer, they are readily available. As for service, it depends on who you get. There always seems to be an undercurrent of drama going on among the staff, which can add to the experience if you're a people watcher. In fact, it's a great people watching place in general as one of the primary social spots of tiny 'mo town.' Also my wife and I get a kick out of the misspelled sign, which touts Cathy's Family 'Dinning.' Never change it! Parking lot can be a challenge on a busy night, as this is the best food in town. I have lived in Westmoreland for six years and have been to Cathy's many times - they have great food and great prices. Everything I have eaten there has been hot and delicious. They serve breakfast all day, which is so nice, and I especially love their pancakes. They also have great burgers and crinkle-cut fries. All the locals frequent this place and the atmosphere is very friendly! It's nice to have such a great restaurant in our small town. read more

I stop here when I am in the area. Pretty good country cookin'. Place is usually packed and parking can be a problem. Well, not necessarily like Grandma used to make, but tasty!!!! We recently held our 50th high school reunion at Cathy's in Westmoreland. Had a good turnout and heard compliments on the food and the service. Having grown up in the town; but not having lived there since high school, I was impressed by the way the staff handled our group, all on a Friday night when the main section of the restaurant was busy. This is a little hidden gem. We were on our way back to Indiana from Georgia, and needed breakfast. Yelp showed this place as an option, and we decided to give it a try. So glad we did! First, $23 fed 3 adults, which hasn't happened in years. The menu is simple and southern. The really nice part is the sides are so reasonable that you can build your own breakfast without breaking the bank. They offer 1 biscuit and gravy or 2 biscuits and gravy, and large pancakes or a perfect portion of silver dollar pancakes. Meat choices include ham, bacon, sausage and tenderloin. They even offer breakfast sandwich biscuits if you like that. They offer country home fries or hash browns. Everything we had was good, better than the franchise chains ever make. It isn't much to look at, just a diner in an older building, but who cares? In short, if I lived there, I would visit this place on a regular basis. read more
