Let me start by saying that I'm in search of the perfect Jamaican oxtail stew in NYC. I'll travel wherever I'll have to in order to find it/get it. I've tried many Jamaican places in both Manhattan and Brooklyn, so this time, I decided to trek to the Bronx to try this place because of the good yelp reviews I'd read. The service was a tad on the slow side. The woman at the register was a bit slow/hard at hearing, so that was a bit of a turn-off. In addition, while I was eating a man off the street came in to try to sell perfumes to the patrons of the restaurant. He left a trail of scent after he left, which was not very appetizing. The food was ok. The oxtail stew was good, though not the best I've had. The rice and peas did not stand out at all, just standard. Just cooked rice with peas thrown into it, not seasoned at all. The candied yams were meh. Despite being in the Bronx, eating at this place was not particularly cheap, either, though the prices were still very reasonable. Overall, a decent place with good oxtail stew if you're in the area. However, the not-so-spectacular sides would not warrant a return visit from me. read more

My review is based on customer service. I ordered UberEats yesterday to an address literally around the corner (Walton/161st ) for myself and an elderly family member I care for. The UberEats app took over an hour to connect with a driver to pickup and deliver my food. Not the restaurants fault... but here's my issue: Why would you send off cold food that had been sitting for 1.5 hrs? Although Uber took forever to pick up the order, as a business you should have had the common sense to re heat my food especially when your prices are inflated ($16 for oxtails). I called the restaurant and explained that my food was very cold and the young lady over the phone confirmed it was because it was bagged up and sitting to be picked up. I told her I understood that the Uber took a very long time however the customer should not have to re heat a $40 order of food when paying for a service and that they could have simply placed my food in a heater/oven for the time being. I politely expressed my frustration and nothing was done to rectify the situation. Seeing as how I made the restaurant aware that I was up the street, they could have at least asked If could come in and exchange the ice cold food for a hot batch. Nope... Nothing. I was told several times it was Uber's fault. I then asked to speak to the manager or owner... guess what? Both of the people on duty do not know who the manager or owner is ....(lies). As a black entrepreneur myself, I always try to support other black businesses but sadly this is why many of them open and close so quickly. No sense of problem solving or care once your money is in their hand. The young ladies I spoke to did say sorry however there was no desire to fix the issue and they made it very clear that the customers physically in the restaurant were more important because they were too busy working to heat my food up (yup, that's what I was told). There were several options to turn this issue around being that I am so close to the restaurant. I did not want to write this review however I cannot support a business who doesn't value customers. I mean, do they not know that customers who live within close proximity of the business statistically spend the most money? I guess I will give Flavas restaurant down the street a try smh read more

I had to write about this place. The food was unbelievable. A party of 7 and we were served promptly with fall-from-the-bone tender meat. Best Jamaican food I've ever had. We all had different things, from the fried chicken to the goat and the oxtail. We couldn't believe how delicious everything was. So cheap, so good, such great service! I have had the oxtails twice since the name change. Not sure of the relationship they have with their butcher, but those are mostly fatty with very little meat on the bones oxtails. One of my biggest regrets about working near here for a summer internship is that I only discovered the Feeding Tree near the end of the summer. Alas. I only had the chance to try the curry goat, but it was absolutely delicious. It looks like a small portion, but it all adds up (rice, beans, curry goat, cabbage, plaintain, lemonade, greens) and is extremely filling. I went in during lunch expecting an extremely long wait, but it was surprisingly short (less than ten minutes, I think). Will definitely try to go if I'm around again. read more

Came for dinner with friends before a concert at Yankee Stadium recently and am very glad we did. An authentic Caribbean restaurant, and obviously a favorite local place. The ambience could be nicer...nothing fancy here. We got a table and looked at the menu. Lots of peasant island food including goat but we decided to try the jerk chicken. I tried to order the wrap option that was on the menu but was told they didn't have it. We both got the platter instead with sides of rice, beans, plantains, and cabbage salad. I was afraid the chicken would be too spicy but it was delicious! So incredibly moist and tender. The meat fell off the bone and the rice and bean sides were amazing. The side cabbage salad was a great counter point to the chicken. Really yummy. The waitress was not very helpful nor extremely friendly and the place could use a facelift (hence the 4 star rating). If you're in the area I recommend stopping in for a bite. You'll be glad you did. read more

Definitely the place to go before a ballgame. Even though it doesn't look like much, the food is quite tasty and the people that work there are friendly. If you like Jamaican food, and who doesn't, they are very good. I suggest the Jerk Chicken or Curried Goat, and I see a lot of people getting the Oxtail. We decided to get takeout meals from here, after discovering (to our surprise) that Yankee Stadium allows fans to bring in their own food (within limits). We searched Yelp, found The Feeding Tree, and decided to give it a try. The restaurant is a short walk from the stadium, in a bustling area. Interestingly decorated, pleasant counter person, relatively quick service. I got Jamaican Jerk Chicken, my wife got Curried Goat. The dinners come in three sizes, all reasonably priced, with beans and rice, sauteed veggies, and fried plantain. For example, the large Jerk Chicken meal was $10.95, a great price for such a large meal. We successfully brought our meals into Yankee Stadium and ate them in our seats, watching the pre-game events. The food was excellent; I cook Jerk Chicken frequently, and found theirs to be excellent, with even the breast meat being moist and tender. I recommend this place to anyone going to the stadium; in fact, it's worth stopping there even if you just happen to be passing the stadium, as it's only a short distance off the Major Deegan. read more

It definitely lived up to my expectations-- I got a huge, delicious meal (for $7.50!) of jerk chicken, rice and peas, steamed cabbage, and fried plantain. My buddies and I were looking for some food before a Yankees game. I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I'm glad that we did. I got a small jerk chicken combo. The combos come with two sides; I got rice and beans and candied yams. The yams weren't as sweet as I thought they would be, which isn't necessarily a bad thing; just know that they're not very candy-like. On my 1st visit i noticed that they take very long to hand out orders so from then on i had to take an extra 20 t0 30 mins extra to come before work so i can have this food. Although the time management is horrible the food is great so i didn't mind taking the extra time until today. Tucked away in a small storefront near the Bronx Supreme Courthouse lies the Feeding Tree. No, it's not much to look at, but, the food is great. The jerk chicken is a must have, it is intensely flavorful, juicy and reminiscent of real Jamaican jerk chicken. The sides it comes with are tasty as well.
