For some reason when I the ordered oxtail and plantains from here a couple of months ago I was underwhelmed. When I ordered these items again for dinner the other day they were delicious. The cornbread is also tasty and the spinach patty was amazing. The restaurant has two sections, one for takeout orders and a separate seating area with a bar. I really really enjoyed the food except that it was cold. I ordered the beef patty which was amazing, warm and had lots of flavor. I was so excited for my oxtail with rice and peas. The odd thing was that it was cold. The two other people that were with me had cold food too. They took a very long time to bring the dishes out too, like 20 minutes. I was visiting a friend in the Bronx and we agreed to meet by Yankee stadium. As I was waiting I started to get hungry so I went on my yelp app to find a place to eat. The feeding tree came up and it's hard for me to pass up caribbean food so I just had to try it. I ordered the curry goat roti. It was for a reasonable price and it came with fried plantains and veggies. The roti was sooooooo good. The curry goat was cooked perfectly. Stopped here after an nycfc game, seemed like it would be a cheap enough place for some quality food. The oxtail is top notch and quite literally falls off the bone. The red snapper was unfortunately overcooked to the point of taking a big hit on flavor. The fish itself also didn't seem fresh at all, but again this could've been a result of how overcooked it was. The smoothies are pretty expensive and taste watered down. I would recommend this place if you're just looking for some decent food at a manageable price (not the cheapest, especially for what you get). read more

My friend and I had jerk chicken and curry goat with carrot juice and Irish moss juice for dinner at the Feeding Tree last night and it was delicious! $11 for a big plate full of excellent tasting soft-meat fall-off-the-bone curry goat. I'm a fan and want to go back! One of the cooks and owner, Phillip, came out to talk to us, asked if we liked the food, and to answer any questions we had. Turns out he creates the jerk spice mix himself. A jewel hidden in the Bronx. I'll be back soon, Phillip, with more friends, no doubt. being that i read some good reviews about the eating tree facility i thought i would give it a chance i usually go to harlem on 145 or peppa's in brooklyn where they serve the best every jamaican food. when i arrived at the eating tree there were several employee in the kitchen area except for one slim tall black american male who asked me what would i like? i looked at the menu and asked for the ten dollar medium portion of jerk chicken. he was just given a pan full of fresh chicken jerk chicken but started giving me the old hard ones that was in the older prior pan which were small pieces looking very hard. i asked him to serve me well please yet he continued as if he did not hear me ( i figured ooh lord here we go ) the chicken look very dry so i asked for some jerk seasoning to be added and he did. i still was looking at those small bits of chicken he gave me even though he had a fresh new pan of chicken with much larger fresh chicken before him. now it is time to pay and he bills me $13.00 dollars for a medium small serving of chicken. i said wait wait wait this is no where near $13.00 dollars of chicken. he said well our prices had gone up then gives me a menu which still shows the medium as ten dollars. i said this says clearly $10.00 dollars not $13.00 dollars rather then keep bringing up his infractions i just paid and left. when i got home those small chicken bits were hard and dry even with the sauce so i tossed it away. i was very disappointed and upset and cannot recommend this place to my worse enemy. i did not pay much attention to some of the people who reviewed this place its mostly individuals who come to ny for baseball games and a few locals. which of course after watching a game being seated for a few hours you will get hungry and want to get whatever is available to you to eat and when your hungry even if you eat a few crackers they taste like the best damn crackers ever which is what i think is what happen here. i personally cannot recommend this place my first time was my last time!!! i am very disappointed!!!! its sad because i have always purchased jamaican food from many places over the years without an issue till now. i never experience anything like this and the employee did not seem to care or mind that i was obviously not satisfied with his service or the quality and small quantity of chicken given to me. i have gotten much better service at the diner at the corner of 161 that establishment they do value their customers way more. i now know to evaluate reviews more carefully before i decide to spend money in places such as this. read more

I have eaten in the past from them food is good. This review is for takeout 10-30-17. I ordered the large oxtails with cabbage and rice with peas. The oxtail was fatty, greasy so delish just the way I like it. The large plate is enough for two adults. Although they pack in the rice and just enough oxtails. Rave reviews for the cornbread that came with the oxtail , I wish I had more.... I ordered jerk wings in the past as well. They are bland and really small. However still my go to for Caribbean food when I'm in the Bronx. read more

I have been coming here since this place opened. Way longer than anyone who has written a review. I live in the neighborhood and remember when it was being built. I have to say I am highly disappointed in my last two visits. I ordered a large oxtail, and when I got it, it was about the same amount of meat as the small..maybe a little more. The majority of the order was rice. This is unacceptable for the price that is being charged. The small order is also a ripoff now, in my opinion. 13 bucks for a smaller version of what I described for the large. You can go to Molino Rojo around the corner, and get their oxtail for less than 10 bucks and get way more for value for your money. A large order of oxtail should not be 98 percent rice in a big foil tin with a little bit of oxtail in the corner. Please address this, because I love coming and supporting this establishment, and I do not want to stop. I hope management sees this and fixes the issue. I am unsure if this only applies to orders of oxtail. read more

I ate the stew beef, rice and peas and mac and cheese here and was very disappointed. Everything was very bland, it had no flavor at all. I gave the place one star for the quick service since I took my food to go but it was such a waste of money since I ended up throwing out my food after a few bites. I don't see what's so special about feeding tree to be honest. I've had the jerk chicken which came with rice and peas and cabbage. I felt like the cabbage was delicious but the rice and peas and jerk chicken lacked a bit of flavor. I had tried the beef patties also because of how popular they seemed to be but was disappointed with that as well. I think this place would be ideal for someone who likes mild Caribbean food. after a long hiatus, i went back to the feeding tree after a sunday afternoon yankee game. this is the kind of place you could easily walk by and ignore, but that would be a huge mistake. the people are friendly and the food is delicious. i had a jerk chicken/goat stew combo. the goat stew was amazing, well seasoned and richly flavored, complex, and well cooked. the jerk chicken had a nice bite, without being overwhelmingly in your face spicy, a nice mix of hot and fruity, just as jerk should be. the cabbage/veg is tasty, the rice and beans nicely cooked. top that off with a red stripe, and life is good. read more

I like this place because they make a lil of everything, food is fresh and flavorful...they also inexpensive. I ordered goat roti today and i loved it i just wish they filled the container with goat instead of gravy and a lil cabbage for almost $8.Thats my only issue but i would go back and try something else definitely. The lunch special sounds like a phenomenal deal, likely a comparable or larger quantity than the $11+ dinner plate I scarfed down on a rainy night before a Yankee game a block over. (I remarked that it was a quick joint, but my co-diner quipped back that it was far enough.) Sure, that's cheaper for the admittedly large portion of real food than you'd spend in the Stadium (or Manhattan), but it ain't exactly bargain grub. That said, the food emerged fairly slowly due to the staffing, albeit quicker than I was expecting based on predecessors' complaints. The woman who took my $13.48 for an order of jerk shrimp and ginger beer (bottled, nonalcoholic) was the friendly of the small operation with regulars out front and circulating the interior. I was unaware of a Bourdain visit, but either the quality dropped or they had an off night - while the shrimp was cooked well and packed a nice wallop, my sides were dry and the sauce was a bit gloopier than desired. read more

If you ever watch a game at Yankee Stadium, save yourself the $20 hot dog/fries heartburn and go to this place. This place is worth the one block walk down the street. Incredible Jamaican meal for a great price, and really nice service. Started with jerk chicken wings. Spicy and flavorful. Then had steaming hot beef patties. The dough was less flaky than we are used to, but it has such a nice chewiness that it grew on us. Ended with the best dish ever....but be warned, you must like seriously spicy food. There is a lot of habanero action in this last one...The pepper shrimp with rice and peas and a side of cooked vegetables was so savory. Yes, the vegetables were savory. It all comes out simply prepared, home cooking style. The ambience is also very informal, decent murals on the walls, photos of Stevie Wonder, MLK and others on the wall, looks family-owned. I go here occassionally when i'm in the mood for Ackee and Saltfish with either dumplings or rice and peas and cabbage. This is the only place I can find that will actually have some available past 10am! Reason being, this is a breakfast dish. They make it pretty mediocre here. If I can get up early enough I would go elsewhere...Like Island Taste Cuisine on whiteplains Rd or Seven Spices on Gun Hill Rd. This place also make thier rice and peas very bland and thier cabbage has no flavor. The best part of this place I would have to say is thier Jerk Chicken. Very moist and flavorful. And they actually have WHITE MEAT! So many carribean resturants only offer Dark Meat. For that I give this place 4 stars. Thanks. read more

Its eatable most def, but it's not the best jerk chicken I've had, if it had being left seasoning all night it would've taste better, the chicken is mad dry, we asked for our rice to be poured with gravy and we didn't get it. My husband asked for oxtail and it was really greasy so he wasn't even able to finish it. So I'd say look for other places. I'm still in search for the perfect Jamaican spot, I'll let you all know if I find it. read more

Good thing I had checked the Yelp reviews, or we would have walked by this place. We knew what we were looking for, and still passed it three times. VERY close to Yankee stadium, excellent choice before the Pinstripe Bowl game. We ate in the dining area and had Red Stripes and oxtail, curried chicken, and jerk chicken. All were excellent! The sides that came with the meat were rice/beans, sauteed cabbage, and one large fried plantain. Also came with cornbread - the cornbread was excellent. The cabbage was not seasoned, but perfect to cool off your mouth after the delicious spicy jerk chicken! The brown sauce from the chicken was great on the rice - but heck, that sauce would make cavier better! Really great find - if you manage your expectations. This is a little hole in the wall with great food and beer. The staff was very friendly, but they are busy - the place constantly has people coming in on the take out side (and generally a line over there). Relax, pretend you are on an island, and enjoy the food. read more
