It was all excellent, truly. The group included two vegans and one vegetarian, with the other four omnivores. No one was disappointed. We tried the Jambalaya Pasta with sausage and chicken, couple of burgers, the spicy chicken, the Jerk chicken, the crab and shrimp pasta (divine), and sides of fried okra, sweet potato fries, brussel sprouts, plantains... amazing. The appetizers were very very good: spring rolls and cauliflower bites. The desserts also excellent. The service was friendly and relaxed. Made to order, not fast food, and we felt welcome to hang out and chat. There isn't a great deal of space and the style of the seating is pretty minimal. Threw me back to my NYU student days and the amazing zen Buddhist minimalist restaurant in the west village I frequented... No complaints even from the omnivores. We cleaned our plates and talked about how good it was on the ride home!! I've been vegetarian for 35 years and this was some of the best "mock" meat/seafood I've ever had. My shrimp and crab pasta was unbelievable and sampled by everyone at the table, lol. Also quite affordable. We were 7 people and got 2 appetizers and 2 desserts and it was under $200 before tip. With generous portions.

Had the Chef Salad, Blueberry NY Cheezecake, Cauliflower Bites & M'eat Lovers Pizza. The latter was sold out online but I did call it in. They also didn't have any pepperoni on it, which was a let down. I also technically had the gluten-free cheesecake since the first one was sold out. Also had the Iced Raspberry Tea. Everything was very good. The flavor and taste of the pizza was on point. I put it in the oven a little on my end as I like a crispy crust. The last time I had to cauliflower bites they had sauce on them...I prefer dipping it like this with sauce on the side. I prefer the Cheezecake at room temperature. Coming out of the fridge I wasn't feeling it. The service for me was in the middle. They were accommodating, but I also felt a bit dismissed. I'll attribute it to the end of the night and will try coming here again.

The food was so good! We ordered a ton of different things to try. We tried the Bacon Ranch chicken…read moresandwich and the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. The chicken was nice and crispy. The Nashville Hot was our favorite, especially dipped in their homemade ranch. We also ordered the red beans, brown rice/wild rice combo, candied yams, cornbread dressing w/ gravy, mac and cheese, purple cabbage, and collard greens. Everything was exceptional. Absolutely loved the cornbread dressing w/gravy, and the mac and cheese is probably the best I've ever had. The BBQ ribs were so good too! I was impressed with how authentic the texture was to the real thing. I was so sad that their dessert was sold out. Their banana pudding and red velvet cake both sounded good. Maybe next time! The service was great. Their website is easy to navigate and order off of. Appreciated the text updates. The gentleman at the front counter was really sweet too. I'll definitely be going back if I'm ever in Columbia, SC again.

The Hoot has turned into one of my go-to Columbia spots!…read more I've been about four times now (last visit was takeout only) and the food was always good, but so is the vibe. As one of the only vegan dedicated places in Columbia, it's such a boon. My first visit I just needed some time to myself. It was about 4pm'ish, I barely ate all day, and I just wanted to absorb this book. I got a nice corner seat at the bar, ordered a delicious amber beer and the cheesy fries, and had a nice hour + just chilling. My barkeep could tell not to bother me, but didn't ignore me...it was perfect. My second visit was slightly later in the day and the place was busier, but you could still find a little spot to yourself if needed. Had the special for the day - the Chik'n Caesar Wrap and the tots - a great comfort meal, and a hard cider. I'm at or near Rosewood pretty often at different times of day, so I'm glad The Hoot is a viable option. My only gripe is that it's a bit difficult to find. I wish they had better signage on Rosewood, and below, that the entrance is in the parking lot below/behind the block. I parked down there and didn't even see it!

We were on the interstate looking at Yelp for recommendations. Do not judge a book by its cover!…read moreThe service was five star, Robert was genuine, incredibly helpful, helped us make selections off the menu. Our service was fast as the food came before we even realized we had ordered it. If you are searching for true Thai cuisine, that is authentic and incredibly flavorful, You must try this place. It's true and some of the other reviews have said it, the outside leaves nothing to be desired and the inside could even use a little help. However, do not drive by. We pulled up after reading reviews, and I almost didn't go in just because of the outside and what a mistake that would have been. This is a five star a rating restaurant.

Solid 4.5 Stars here - Don't judge this place by its cover... the food is outstanding…read more This was our third visit to Thai Orchid over the last few years while we are visiting the area, and the food has never disappointed. I'll be honest...the exterior looks a bit rundown, and the interior (including the bathrooms) could definitely use some cleaning and updating. But when we go out to eat, it's about the food first, and this place delivers where it matters most. We started with the veggie spring rolls, which I'd rate about a 7.5/10, good, but not the highlight (you can only do so much with veggie spring rolls lol). For our entrees, we ordered the drunken noodles with tofu (partner is vegetarian) and I had the pineapple duck curry (it cane with a small salad). The drunken noodles were excellent--9/10, with great flavor and balance. The pineapple duck curry was a standout 10/10 for me, rich, flavorful, crispy duck skin and absolutely worth coming back for. We arrived just after 5 PM on a Saturday and were the first ones there. We were seated immediately, and the service was very good throughout. The menu is huge, with plenty of options, and prices are reasonable for a specialty Thai/Asian restaurant in Orangeburg. We ordered both dishes at a mild spice level, and they came out perfect, just enough heat without being overpowering. Bottom line: the building could use some love, but don't let that stop you. The real treat here is what comes out of the kitchen. If you're in Orangeburg and craving Thai food, give Thai Orchid a try, you'll likely be pleasantly surprised by the quality.
