Looks can be deceiving. As I was driving off of the Rosecrans exit of the 110 freeway to the restaurant, I startled to get a little nervous. Looking around area, a desolate industrial wasteland emerged. I thought to myself, "Am I in the right place? Where could there possibly be a restaurant? Did I send my friend the wrong address?" However as I continued down Grand I finally caught a glimpse of a sign that indicated additional parking in the rear. Nerves began to settle as I was able to easily find parking in the giant lot behind the store. I walked around the block, found the entrance and went inside. What awaited me inside had me in shock. A spacious area with a family friendly industrial tones with plenty of seating, a friendly staff that ushered me in and seamlessly guided me to my friend's table, and quaint bakery and grocery area to boot. The food was delicious, upon a cursory review of Yelp I went with the Gnocchi with pesto. My friend had chicken Scaloppina. Portions and price point were great. I had leftovers and did not feel ripped off. The cappuccino I ordered, not the best, but it wasn't bad. It's not like I was at a cafe or coffee shop. The waiter was attentive and the restaurant seemed to be at 70% capacity with families. Overall, I would say it was a positive experience and would recommend it as the best Italian option in this part of town. I regret not getting the House Cake as it looked delicious...I was just too full. Bonus* I did hear some people speaking Italian which also adds some street cred to this fine institution. read more

You wanna talk about the hardest thing to ever accomplish? That would be pulling off the service for a party of 16. Something always gets missed, something always lacks. Not this time, not this place. Aside from the amazing food, the service was so spot on. And on top of everything else they were able to figure out and divide all of our orders so we didn't get one big check. I was so blown away at the service of this place, but let's talk about the food. I had chicken Parmesan and it was great, my wife had the seafood mix with all the different things that go in that and she was really happy. Everything from the bread, to my sister-in-law's lemon chicken was amazing. And then we got to the desserts. You will never find a better restaurant than this for desserts. Their bakery is right on hand, and oh my God was their desserts incredible. I think we all sampled everything, I had a pastry puff that was covered in chocolate with a cream filling on the inside and I swear it was one of the best things that ever went in my mouth. The open air ambience was really interesting, and I swear I have never been in such a large party and had everybody as happy as we were at this restaurant. I'd like to say 3.5 stars, but rounding up to four. I remember eating here when I was living out in LBC way back in the day. It's been sometime -- my husband and I calculated and it's been almost 12 years to be exact which is crazy! I remember being amazed by this restaurant when I came here a long time ago. Great prices, loved the industrial feel, and the food was amazing. When we had to visit the area, I knew I had to make a pitstop here. This place has definitely changed. There used to be a cheese wheel setup in the back that was pretty much welcoming you when you arrived. It's all been blocked off now in the window. We ordered the tagliatelle ragu and porcini mushroom and truffle lasagna along with the rock pizza (name could be wrong). The tagliatelle ragu fell flat. It was so dry and the portion was pretty small. The rock pizza was good but it wasn't anything to write home about. I will say the porcini mushroom and truffle lasagna was absolutely amazing! Always a great experience here. We had the chicken pizza and the burrata with prosciutto. The chicken was seasoned chicken breast and went well with the crust, minimal sauce and cheeses. The prosciutto was soft sliced that melt in your mouth - and plenty of it! I needed special beverage - a cross between an iced americano and an iced espresso and the waiter accommodated. My friend and I shared the following: -banana peppers ($10.95): stuffed with bread crumbs, sausage and parmesan on a bed of arrabbiata sauce -gitana pizza($16.50): tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh mushrooms, parmigiano reggiano, speck + cherry tomatoes tomatoes -penne speck e trevigiano ($17.50): penne in a treviso cream sauce Ngl, the banana pepper situation was a little weird. The banana pepper was abnormally very large and everything it was stuffed with - sausage + breadcrumbs - tasted very bland. The arrabbiata sauce couldn't make up for the lack of flavor. Interesting try, though not for me. Honestly, the real MVP to both the pizza and pasta was the speck. It's salty, and crispy, and was the standout in both dishes. The pizza didn't do much for me - the crust was flimsy and was giving cracker. I liked the toppings, but again, the crust was not crusting. I thought the pasta fared much better, however, the treviso sauce was sparse. There was just enough to coat the noodles, but nothing beyond that. I've been to Eatalian in Gardena a couple of times now, and I figured it was finally time to give them a full review. This spot is tucked away in more of a warehouse area, not surrounded by a lot of other restaurants, so I think it's kind of a hidden gem for people who work nearby. It does get packed during peak hours, but when I went, I didn't have to wait, which was great. They start you off with some bread and a little olive oil and vinaigrette for dipping, and I have to say that was my favorite part! For my main, I had the tagliatelle with the porcini mushroom sauce. It was decent, nice texture on the noodles, definitely not bland, but I kind of wished it was a bit creamier. That's just my personal taste, though. My cousin got the linguine con pesto with chicken and absolutely loved it, she's already planning to come back for it. Another highlight was the lasagna with black truffle and porcini mushrooms, which my cousin really enjoyed. I'm a big truffle fan, so I'm definitely going to try that next time to see if that truffle flavor really shines through. My mom had the penne con gamberi with shrimp, and she really liked it as well. And we all shared an appetizer of Fritto Misto which is calamari and shrimp, served with marinara. Even though I usually like a more vinegary or creamy dip, the marinara was actually perfect and really tasty. I also had a cappuccino that came with cute latte art, and they even gave my cousin a complimentary cannoli for her birthday, which was such a sweet touch. I came here for a meeting with my boss and it's my new favorite Italian spot. The service is spectacular, everyone made us feel like family. And the food....this was the best spaghetti carbonara I've ever had...if you like bacon and you're looking to carb load I highly recommend. This place is very well hidden. It's really only by word of mouth that you know about this place. I have been living in the south bay for over 5 years and never once did i hear about this place until an out-of-town friend told me about it. The service was great. We came into this place at the right time as we didn't have to wait for a table. I ordered the Tagliatelle pasta and my fiancé ordered the Mimmo pizza. I went there with coworkers for lunch. We arrived around 11:10 am just after the restaurant opened. There were only one or two people seated inside at the time. The building is spacious with high ceilings and a nicely designed setup. They have an open kitchen concept which allows you to see the chefs preparing your food. Upon check-in we were seated immediately, and our server brought the menus and asked for our drink selections. I will be honest , the menu is extensive offering a wide variety of Italian dishes, including pizza, pasta, sandwiches, calzones, salads, rice, and risotto options. Since it was my first visit and I wasn't familiar with the potion sizes, it took me some time to decide I ordered the Tagliata de Pollo Con Verdure, which comes with either spaghetti pomodoro or a choice of two sides. I chose grilled and steamed vegetables. The chicken was cooked perfection and full of flavor and the grilled and steamed vegetables were a great addition that complemented the dish well. The calzone was also impressively large. The servers were very attentive, checking in to make sure the food was good and that we had everything we needed. Our waitress accidentally mixed up our pizza at first, but she was so kind and quick to fix it, and even gave us a box of cookies as an apology. She was incredibly sweet and attentive the whole time. Most dishes are large enough for left overs so it's nice to have some solid portions. I personally would like more protein options but they have a decent selection. The good: This is a super interesting space that looks like an open warehouse. It looks like a more hole-in-the-wall version of Eataly. There are stacked boxes of wine and other produce. There are different counters for different foods but you order at the table with a waiter. It's not located in an area with other restaurants or businesses. The desserts display was fantastic. I liked the authentic menu, open kitchen, and casual atmosphere. It felt very authentically Italian. I tried a variety of dishes (around 4-5 plus an appetizer) and over 5 desserts. There were plenty of options to choose from as well as vegetarian options. It was my first time trying arancini! The bad: The pork dish we got was a little bit underwhelming. Located in an industrial area of Gardena, it's a place that would be very hard to just stumble upon. Even after seeing the banner that said "Eatalian" on the side of the building, we were hard pressed to believe that there was an actual restaurant in there. But all doubt is dispelled once you step inside. It's a large, cavernous place--a former textile factory, as it turns out, and it is noisy with the bustle of food making and enjoying. You get in line to place your order with the cashier, and if you're dining in, you wait up there until a suitable table opens up. In our case it took about 30 minutes because we unfortunately got there right after the initial lunch rush, but we were happy to chat amongst ourselves and take in the atmosphere. Because we were hungry and were counting on leftovers, the hubby and I ordered: - Seafood linguini - Pesto linguini - Lentil soup - 4 cheese pizza - Chocolate bigne - Affogato with vanilla gelato (note: you order desserts and coffee at a separate counter) It was a crazy amount of food but we wanted to sample as much as we could, and they did indeed make fantastic leftovers. Eatalian is my go to spot for meat ragu bolognese. Today was a long day at work and my husband asked where I wanted to go eat, Eatalian was my first thought. Their frito misto is unbelievable with a fresh crunch that is not bready nor soggy. Their marinara is made with ripened cherry tomatoes and has a hint of spice. Absolutely drool worthy. This spot is low key , no big signs no frills, just a warehouse looking location with good food and service. Our waiter was on top of everything and they also had people circling to help. All of the food was delicious. Food was served piping hot. For dessert I got the panna cotta with chocolate, my husband got the cannellonis and my daughter got a vanilla gelato. OBJECTIVELY MEH. Literally why does everyone rave about this place? The food SUCKS. My husband and I got two things. Squash raviolis from the HANDMADE PASTA part of the menu. They were a little hard? On the edges. Like they'd been sitting for days before being cooked and the boiling wasn't quite enough to soften the old pasta. Filling was meh. Sauce (LOOK AT IT) was like melted cheap butter with no flavor. Trader Joe's ravioli with simple melted butter and salt and pepper is a billion times better. Pizza (WE ARE KNOWN FOR OUR THIN CRUST PIZZA) - with sausage and honestly I don't remember but some other stuff. It was unmemorable. Like whatever crust was thin and nice but it was very whatever. Toppings (THESE ARE THE CHEFS CURATED SELECTIONS) were like whatever you'd find at a chain. Bread. Looked amazing. It was not. It was cold and dry and a little hard. The "olive oil" was definitely some sort of light canola or vegetable oil. I will never be returning here because WHY WOULD I. Honestly the arrogance (hostess, servers insisting this is the best food and well obviously be back in a week) in the face of the mediocrity is way worse than the disappointing food. Like it's fine. It's edible. Perhaps great for a big party of non-foodies. Venue is perfect for parties or large groups or people with kids (bc it's super loud with terrible acoustics so who is going to notice a crying baby). From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with super friendly service - you can tell it's a family-owned place by the welcoming atmosphere, which adds to the charm. They offer complimentary bread and oil/balsamic (butter upon request) I do wish the bread was warm or toasted but it was still good! The flavors of fresh spaghetti, Kalamata olives, capers, cherry tomatoes, and parmigiana along with bacon added was Divine! I paired it with a glass of Pinot Grigio and used the warm bread that melts in your mouth to sop up the left over sauce. To say I was happy after this meal is an understatement, I was very satisfied. The staff is always so welcoming and they treat you with love. They take good care of you and that makes the experience even more worth the visit. I always get the Sable cookies for dessert. My favorites are the apricot and strawberry. The ambiance is great, a lot of seating, there is an awesome bar that allows you to watch the chefs cook your meal which is perfect if you don't want table seating. Came back here again and I have to say they unfortunately it doesn't meet the same standards as it did before. Service started out a little slow, but seemed to do better. Server came back multiple times to check to see if we needed anything. We ordered the Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. It wasn't as tasty as the last time, and the noodles are much thicker. Kids liked the butternut squash ravioli, hubby tried and said it lacked flavor and was rather bland (better for the kids). Also ordered the carbonara, it was okay but also lacked flavor. If you don't like your carbonara salty, this is the one for you. I've read all the reviews and decided to order the house cake because everyone said it was the best thing on the menu, it was good, but really sweet, might want to share it. I couldn't finish it because of how sweet it was. Kids got gelato, and found that they are also heavy handed with the sugar. Kids are now jumping off the walls. Wonderful visit a few weeks back at Eatalian. The atmosphere is casual, welcoming, and full of that "you-might-as-well-be-family" energy. It is great to see family owned business thriving. The owner ( I think he was the owner Craig, I believe) greeted us like long-lost cousins, asked if it was our first visit (it was), and then proceeded to give us the kind of menu recommendations you can only get from someone who *really* knows their food. Every suggestion hit the spot -- great food here! The staff matched his friendliness with warm smiles and excellent service. You could tell they genuinely wanted everyone to enjoy their meal, and we definitely did. What a shift from the chain restaurant service we have been accustom to! Between the quality of the food, the portion sizes, and the prices, the value here is fantastic. You walk out full, happy, and already planning your next visit.
