Walked past this cool place a dozen times and only got the nerve to try it out when a friend on a…read morework visa from europe said they haven't had fish and chips since they came to Aus in April... what the?! Haha Reviews were good & friend's that have been here highly recommend it :D. Restaurant/takeaway shop is super cosy and tucked away in Surry hills on a Corner :). Has about 4 tables plus a few seats at the counter, so if you wanted to sit down its smart to book but also not a bad idea to come in and ask for a table, leave your contact details and then chill out in the pub next door which i saw one couple do while we were feasting :D Friend got a rocket salad & i got the steamed mussels for starters :), salad was so good but the steamed mussels were lacking... was a bowl with heaps of shells half with meat and half or less without.. the broth on the bottom wasn't so tasty either.. I never see Fish pie on a seafood menu ever .. so that was me for main and my friend had the fish cakes :). Fish cakes looked like beef patties literally but once you taste you realise that it's a qaulity delicious fish cake, never had a quality one before haha :)!! WOW for the fish pie :D, was unsure about the taste but it blew me away on first spoonful :)!! Cheesy mashed potato on top with soft tender fish & mushroom on the bottom :D!! I'm a big eater but the fish pie & a few of the fish cakes filled me up.. bit down about it cuase the dessert looked so good :)!! Good reason to come back though, smash the dessert then beers next door oppaaaa :D!! Steamed mussels

While the fish available changes daily, the menu as a whole hasn't really changed in the last decade- and that's not a bad thing. Sooo there's a menu, but basically what you do is you pick: 1. A Fish 2. A Sauce/Topping (eg. hollandaise and asparagus or avocado salsa or cajun crust) 3.A Potato (eg. chips or gratin or wedges or gnocchi) and order that. 90% of the time I get the tuna, with avocado salsa and chips) There is very limited seating, but the turnover is quick and high. Just give your name or number when you arrive and pop over the Shakespeare Hotel for a drink. They'll come drag you out or phone you when your table is ready (normally about 1 drink's wait). P.S. the tartar is tangingly perfect. P.P.S the chairs are all stools, so don't wear a short skirt P.P.P.S if you like your tuna pink, as for RARE not medium rare.

I was in a frantic rush to get to my daughter's school musical and had grabbed a gorgeous bunch of roses with coloured baby's breath. The flowers had been sitting in a jar of water and the bottom half was unwrapped -- and this mattered, because we were giving them to one of the leads in the show who wouldn't finish performing until 9pm. It was only 5:45pm, so the flowers needed to stay hydrated for over three hours before they'd even be received. The in-store florist had already finished for the day and I had no idea what to do. Zeron, who was near the cashiers, came straight outside to help. He grabbed a freezer bag from the fruit section, added water, wrapped the stems in tissue paper, secured it all with a rubber band, then finished the whole thing beautifully with florist paper and a decorative tie. It was creative, practical and looked wonderful. He was calm, quick and genuinely kind the whole time. We made it to the show on time and the flowers were still perfectly fresh when presented after the performance. Zeron is exactly the kind of person who makes a local shop feel like community.

They really focus on natural, organic, Hugh quality items - if you're from the US, think Whole Foods. I was impressed with their produce, their amazing cheese section and the ability to grab and go many things for a quick dinner. Despite the higher end nature of their items, I thought prices were fair. In fact, we stopped several times for mineral water because it was 1/2 the price of the Metro down the road.

What a gem of a find, situated right at the Double Bay ferry stop, you enter a club that has a…read moresmall outdoor deck with shade umbrellas overlooking the harbour. Inside you have a bar with informal bar tables with a great view over the deck and harbour. It also has a dining area that is slightly a little more formal (tables are set) the whole place is a relaxed atmosphere. Considering it is upmarket Double Bay, the wine list offers inexpensive choices and it has a great pub-style menu. Even though it is summer I had the seafood chowder and it was to die for. Simply amazing and must say I will be back for more. The bread roll was fresh and served warm with real butter. A glass of sparkling mineral water topped it off nicely.

You walk through the doors and directly ahead of you is the heart of this place, a front desk manned by someone who could possibly have been the dunce in her hospitality class - no joke, she was a real piece of work (but more about her later). To your right is the kitchen, the bathrooms and what looked like offices of some sort (this is a sailing club after all). To your left is where all the money is - turn here and head for the deck. As you pass the bar to your left, be sure to stop and chat to the exceptional barmen and have them mix up a cocktail for you. Sneak in a mandatory scan of the folk eating on your right as you step out onto the deck, and what a deck it is !!! Take it in kids, take in that view and just be. There are only 6 or 7 tables out there so there may be a little argy bargy to grab a table but once seated, be prepared to grow some roots. Look through their bar menu and head back in to order at the front desk (remember? the front desk manned by the soup nazi herself?). Make sure you are 100% sure of what you want to order otherwise you WILL be made to feel like you have all of 10secs to order before the buzzer goes off and you lose the game !!! After copping a mouthful from her (how dare i ask her what came with some of the dishes), I settled on the chicken salad - the chicken was grilled to perfection and the salad was super crisp and sooo refreshing - spot on for a warm summer afternoon. if you're umming and ahhing about this place - don't - just go, its as simple as that.

Based in a little village on the corner of Glenview Street & Boundary Road in Paddington Sea Cow is an unassuming Fish & Chip shop. Humble enough to remain low key, but clean and crisp enough to feel modern it is quite astounding to see how popular this place can be. Open only from 5PM-930PM of an evening it is perfect for a bite to eat on a summer eve. Big open windows make the space feel much bigger than it is and tables spill out onto the street. Try the Grilled Garlic and Coriander Prawns ($17) with a side salad ($5.50). Sea Cow is BYO so you can bring your favorite vino to enjoy too (corkage does apply).

Sitting on a corner in the backstreets of Paddington/Darlinghurst, this is a good little fish and chipper in the inner-city. I love the grilled fish & chips combo - you can substitute the chips for salad if you're a stickler, and choose from favourites like salmon, jewfish, barramundi and blue eye cod. If you opt for battered fish, you have a different set of fish to choose from and you can BYO if you're dining in. The chilli coriander prawns are also awesome or if you're just after a snack, order the hot chips with chilli jam - yum!
