Low salt, tender veggies, and equal balance of tofu serving this is a nice option that can be modified (sans tofu). The crispy beef came out piping hot and perfectly crispy. I prefer much less sauce, but my fault for not asking. This was otherwise a delicious preparation and ample enough to take home for seconds. Pork dumplings (Pan Fried) Very large, fully stuffed dumplings; the size of the dumplings make them very filling. Definitely much larger than traditional dumplings. The pork reminds me of breakfast sausage. I would've love if they had more of a green onion or lemongrass or more of a pronounced Asian flavor palate. Pretty good, though. Crispy Honey Chicken Chicken is lightly breaded, very crisp. I appreciated that they tented the lid to keep the chicken crispy for carryout. The sauce was interesting with a strong sweetened mayonnaise taste. I was expecting more honey than mayonnaise flavor. This was just OK. Combo Lo Mein The lo mein noodles were perfectly cooked. Generous portion and good amount of meat. Steak w/ Black Pepper Sauce This was the star of the show. Hands-down, the best dish out of everything I ordered. The steak was very tender, the ratio of peppers and onions was just enough. I appreciated that the bell peppers were not overcooked nor mushy. The pepper sauce had a heavy pepper presence and yet wasn't overpowering, it was the perfect balance of pepper to make the sauce. Jessica has customer service down to an art. She makes a conscious effort, to ensure everyone feels like family and welcomes everyone in with joy radiating from her. I would definitely recommend this place. Don't order on Christmas Eve. Put in an online order at 11:00 am for a 6:00 pm pickup and the order finally it cane out at 7:00 and without the brown rice because it wasn't made. I get it that it is a busy night, but this was total chaos. At least the food is good, but the take out service is awful. read more

I tried their Sunday brunch Buffet for the first time two days ago, and I was frankly, floored. There were so many items on the Buffet, and it was being refilled constantly. They're literally was a man in and out of there checking each dish about every 3 minutes. And unlike other Asian buffets, this wasn't full of mundane food but rather some top-of-the-line stuff. Went here to celebrate my birthday with my boyfriend. We covered the entire table with food. It was incredible. They offer sushi, and have a lovely-looking sushi bar, but those aren't wheelchair accessible, and I wasn't there for sushi anyhow. We were seated in the dining room, FOX on the television. Seemed to be a lot of regular diners, as staff had conversations with several of them, catching up. And after tasting the food, I can see why people would eat there all the time. We started with shrimp toast. It's so difficult to find decent shrimp toast. These were okay, but I wouldn't order them again. They were nicely fried, but the filling was more like a dense shrimp paste. I liked them more with the dipping sauce that came with my crispy eggplant - which was perfectly battered and fried. Both reheated well in our air fryer the next day. My boyfriend got the Spicy Szechuan Wonton. HE LOVED IT. The soft wrapped wonton was like what you would find in soup, not hard fried. The broth was just the right level of spicy. Got him sweating a little. Of those three, we'll definitely be ordering the wonton again. Since we were celebrating, we also had cocktails. The Summer Breeze is tastier than the Zombie, but smaller. The Spicy Crispy Beef is what brought us to the restaurant. Saw pictures of it on Yelp and was like, "I need that in my life" and damn IT'S AMAZING. I wouldn't necessarily call it spicy, but it is gloriously crispy, yet tender. Sweet sauce and a julienne of carrots, celery, and another veg to add to the texture sensation, and to counterbalance the sticky sauce. We also had Hunan Crispy Duck (Half of a specially marinated boneless duck; served with asparagus in the Chef's spicy brown sauce). My boyfriend and I couldn't decide with sauce was better. He adored the sauce that came with the duck, but my vote is for the sauce for the eggplant. Our meals came with rice, but we never touched it. We couldn't stop shoving everything else into our faces. I think the one miss, the one dish that just didn't stand up to the others was the Sweet Chili Grouper (Lightly breaded grouper in chef's special sweet chili sauce). It wasn't bad, but like the rice, we just couldn't be bothered with it. One of these days we'll learn to stop ordering fish at Chinese restaurants. We completed our meal with a dish of mango pudding (SOOOOO good) and another dish of chocolate-covered banana pudding (could have done without the Hershey's syrup), you know - just free cuz they're cool like that. Credit to Yelp for helping me realize this restaurant exists, because I've been to this shopping center so many times before but never paid much attention to East West until now. It was clearly a blind spot in my local restaurant lineup because we really liked it. We came for their Sunday brunch buffet. Given it was our first time, I'm not sure which of the items are there regularly and which are on rotation, but they had a good variety of American breakfast items, Chinese takeout classics such as Hunan beef and orange chicken among others, fried shrimp, 6 different types of maki sushi rolls, salad, chocolate covered strawberries, and plenty of other dessert choices. They offered us wonton soup when we sat down and coffee to go with our dessert as well (included in the price of the buffet). The seating area was full when we arrived at noon, so we sat at the high top table at the bar. This did not impact the level of service- all of the employees are very nice and checked in on us for water refills and to see how we were doing during our meal. read more

You really get the measure of a place when things go awry (and no place is perfect) My Crispy Beef was not crispy. I was not going to make an issue of it-these things happen. So, I "hid" my mostly untouched plate beneath our well eaten others. I then went off to the Ladies Room. When I retured my husband said that our server had stopped by to ask if there had been a problem. He did not want to complain so he just said that everything was fine. But he could tell that she was upset. Soon, the young man who was our first server came by to ask if there had been something wrong with the dish. Not being one to shy from speaking the truth I told him that while the sauce was delicious and the vegetables were lovely, the beef was tough, chewy and pretty much inedible. At no point did we ask for a refund. When we got the bill the cost had been removed. And both of the servers came by to tell us they were going to let the chef know about the problem. That is the sign of a truly great place that cares about their food and goes all out to make sure customers leave happy. You can get some outstanding dishes at East-West. Service is excellent, ambiance is nice. And the fact that they care makes us want to brave the long, crazy drive often. read more

Today was the second time we've eaten at EastWest Bistro. We really enjoyed our first visit, and went back today to see if was consistently good. I'm pleased to say that it was! While I don't remember what I had the first time I was there, my second meal was recommended by someone I was there with the first time I went. I had the double pan fried noodles with shrimp and my husband had the general tso's chicken. The shrimp in my meal were enormous and plentiful and the sauce was savory and flavorful. The chicken pieces in my husband's meal were huge, and , unlike at some places, the coating was crisy and delicious. The portions of our meals were ample enough for both of us to take home leftovers, and we're hearty eaters! Having said that, the ambiance and decor were adequate, but I wasn't there for that, so I don't care too much about that. Another thing that was a bit underwhelming were the shrimp eggrolls we had an appetizers. While not BAD, per se, the bits of shrimp in them were tiny and very sparse. I probably would have given 5 stars had the appetizers been as impressive and tasty as the entrees. I can't ignore that aspect, as appetizers were part of the paid meal. A nice surprise at the end of the meal was being given two small sweet items " on the house" for dessert. I'm a dessert person, so it was a pleasant way to finish off the meal, and as they were sample sized, just enough on top of our full stomachs. The staff seemed friendly and efficient. Not busy at dinner time on a Monday. Carry out was steady. Food was very good. Fresh. Hot. Good portions. Would like to see some happy hour menu items to compete as most similar places do. Maybe the dining room will fill up. Would like to see this place thriving. Will return to try the wings. A few people came in and one couple ordered three orders of wings. I absolutely love East West Bistro. I like it because they have vegan items. And it doesn't look like the regular foods. You can clearly see tofu is tofu. Other places can't say the same. The food is always fresh and made to order. The hostess is always nice when I go in. The people making sushi always speak and smile. The music isn't very loud and it is well lit. I wanted Cantonese chow fun and found that this place had it on the menu. I decided to give it a try. I ordered via Grubhub. Everything arrived hot and seemingly fresh, however... They separated the noodles and the sauce & veg. The noodles had congealed into an inedible glob. I thought the sauce and veg could be salvaged so I tried eating some of it with some rice and it was completely flavorless. I also ordered a California roll because it's usually the safest thing on a menu. It was the smallest California roll I've ever had but it was decent. I don't know how the other half of the order is because it is for someone else and they haven't eaten it yet. But I know I won't be ordering from here again. read more

Here is a slightly more upscale Chinese restaurant and takeout in the Pasadena area. They have typical American Chinese fare along with a smattering of more traditional Chinese and Thai dishes as well as sushi. The dining area, while moderately sized, is very clean and pleasant with very nice settings. The food here is good. Portions are decent, and most dishes are family style. For those ordering the typical take-out options such as General Tso's chicken for example, they use very large chunks of meat with a nice light breading. Unlike many other places that almost have more bread than chicken! The sushi is also very good here, and they have some options that are different from the common selections at most other places. I particularly like the Ichiban roll with its unique cilantro sauce. With the on-set of COVID, after some initial pains getting used to the increased takeout business, they have been doing well. Orders are ready quicker, and they will bring the food out to your car. Overall, this is definitely a place worth trying. Especially good if you are interested in the expanded menu to try some new things. read more

My extended family and I came here tonight and everything was perfect! We called ahead to see if they could accommodate 14 of us and they said yes. We got there about 10 minutes later and they had set up a table in the back room for us which was perfect because we have young kids. We ordered a bunch of food to share and everything was so good! Drunken noodles, orange chicken, Mongolian beef, happy family and general tso's chicken. Also fried rice for the kids. We had plenty of food and everything was so good! OK, so we have been looking for a Chinese restaurant to have food in....and so far, we only know of two places. This is one of them. Now I had been here in the past. The decor was old and tired and it was definitely in need of a refresh. Matter of fact, service was just so so back when. That was my memory and when my husband said *let's try East West*, I wasn't so thrilled....see above. Well, upon entering, for this pandemic we are presently in? This place was JUMPING! Upon being escorted to our table, we noticed a very refreshed dining area with new tables and chairs, paint, lovely floors and new art on the walls. Also, bright napkins, silverware and plates seemed to be part of their revamp. So my husband and I have two dishes we love.....there are other dishes we like, but we LOVE shrimp fried rice and hot crispy beef. The last time we had both dishes at this restaurant, it wasn't necessarily memorable. We ordered those, along with a soup. Hubby opted for egg drop and I got won-ton. Both served hot along with their signature crispy noodles with hot mustard and duck sauce. Oh, so yummy! We normally have hot tea here, however we opted for diet cokes as we were thirsty. Our waitress (who was amazing I might add!) brought our shrimp fried rice first because it was hot and she didn't want it to cool. We asked for soy, but we are so used to just having it on the table that we forgot to ask for low sodium, but it was no issue....she went and got it with a smile! A few minutes later, she refilled our sodas and brought out our favorite dish, the crispy beef. OH MY GOSH! Well, it was more than amazing....we hadn't had it in some time and it was not only crispy, but almost caramel like! It was fantastic and such a large portion of both. In the past, it has not transported to the fridge well, but not last night! We were able to have it for lunch today and we reheated it in the microwave and it still was pretty much like what we had last night! We could have had dinner for four with the portions we had....well worth the cash for the meal. The bill for two soups and the two entrees was $43 plus a tip for our great server! We had the rest for lunch today, so you really couldn't beat that. Incidentally according to their website, it is now Jessica Zheng's East West Bistro. So Ms. Zheng, what a job you are doing! :) I remember the old owner (sadly, I cannot remember his name) had a picture of Pat Sajak and himself in the restaurant. Their hot and sour soup is very yummy, I love veggie tempura rolls, but not every place offers one, so I was excited to try their zucchini tempura roll (and yes, it was yummy!). I also like that it came with sauce. Most veggie rolls come pretty plain and I don't like soy sauce, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some spicy mayo on my plate. It made the roll even better! For my meal, I got General Tso's Tofu and while it wasn't the best I've ever had, it was still very good. I would definitely eat here again and actually I've been craving to go back since. Their prices are a little pricey though if you're not a vegetarian. All the vegetarian entrees are only $10, but any other entrée is at least $13+. Some items are close to $20 and it's not anything special that I haven't seen at any other Chinese restaurant. Ordered take out today which is really the only option as they are renovating their dining room so there is not currently dine in seating. The order was easy to place over the phone and was ready in the quoted time (20 min). I ordered the California Roll and Spicy tuna roll for my husband. He enjoyed it. They didn't give enough wasabi for three rolls so next time I will request extra. We also ordered the sesame chicken combo meal which came with a cup of soup and an egg roll. We got egg drop soup which I really enjoyed compared to other local restaurants. We got a large order of vegetable lo mein which was delicious and had plenty of veggies in it. Chopsticks, sauces and fortune cookies were automatically thrown in with the order. No complaints and I will definitely return again in the future. read more

I ordered the Egg Drop Soup. It was decent and had some flavor. It came with the wonton chips, which was nice. For my entree I ordered the Sushi Nachos for 1 with salmon and the Fried Crepes. Unfortunately the Sushi Nachos cape our with tuna instead of salmon, which was okay because luckily I also like tuna. The fish and nachos were good but not but I expected. It was one wonton wrapper cup, not several wontons likes nachos. It was odd to eat because not every bite had a wonton with it. The Fried Crepes were decent. The wonton was a little soft and not firm. Still good though. I'm not sure I would order them again though. Ok we are back 2 years later.......................this time we tried the Shrimp Fried Rice and Singapore Noodles and Edaname. Shrimp fried rice was a little too dry for the wife but she really liked all the veg in it esp the onion. We both LOVED the edaname........excellent ......................and I liked the singapore noodles even tho she felt for her they were a little dry. Many in our community recommended East West and we enjoyed our first visit. Staff was welcoming and friendly and service was prompt and great, even though it was a little busy. Portions were generous and fresh though I wish the fried rice was a little more flavorful. While there, we saw that sushi is also on the menu as well as a weekend brunch with mimosas.
