I purchased a rebuilt motor from East Valley Auto Rebuild. I got a great deal on it during one of the online coupon specials. I installed the motor myself to save money. Unfortunately after installing the motor I started having issues with it leaking oil. I brought it back and found out there was no warranty since I did the install myself. I talked to Mark the owner and he said they would pull the timimg belt cover and replace all the seals behind it. They also would replace the cam cover seal on the passenger side and he would give me a discount. It ended up being a $800 dollar job and I paid $300. I drove the car for about a week and noticed the other side cam seal was now leaking. So I went back to East Valley Auto Rebuild and talked to Mark and he said they would do the other side and I would have to pay some since it's a lot of labor. I wrote Mark a letter describing my situation and why I felt this repair should be covered at their cost. They replaced the other side cam seal and power steering bracket. When I came in to pick up the car Mark called me into his office and explained that they would cover all the cost at no additional expense to me. He also showed me the broken power steering bracket that they replaced for free. In the end I was satisfied with their work. Mark has a lot of knowledge and experience on Subaru's that most mechanics don't have. They also are good at working on custom project cars. When I went in the shop I saw a complete drive train / motor swap going on between two very different cars. I've put over 3,000 miles on the car since the last repair and I'm confident it is now fixed. read more

The owner is a character. While their engine work has lasted they screwed me in the end by lying to insurance which ended up costing me more than it was worth. The owner explained that he felt his relationship with insurance companies was somehow super important and didn't want to put pressure on them to pay for damage caused by a collision. Essentially being insurance centric instead of customer or truth centric. Furthermore they put red coolant hose kit on instead of the blue requested. Attention to detail might be lacking. read more

I brought my motor to mark based on the nice conversation we had over the phone I thought my experience would be different from previous shops. Well let me tell you it was the absolute worst experience I've ever had dealing with a "professional". Mark stated that the all pricing would be discussed before performing any work, but no price was ever discussed. Mark just happened to call me in the middle of rebuilding the heads... I asked him how much it would cost and he said "not much just a couple hours I started this business to help people" he said. I show up he finally gives me a crippling price. I was clearly upset and expressed that it was a lot more than I had expected and I asked why wasn't the price discussed prior to touching them. He couldn't give me an answer for the life of him. Mark being the businessman that he is ,instead of trying to relate or give me an answer. He decided to show his true colors and physically threaten me. 100% would not recommend read more

Howdy folks. My name is Sean Austin and YES I am a former customer. I'm also an engineer and prior to becoming an engineer I was an ASE master heavy truck and automotive technician. ( 22 ASE certs. total ) I bought a rebuilt engine from mark. It was a 2005 outback with a 2.5L California engine. Mark and his rebuild guy talked me into putting a federal engine in place of the California unit and eliminating the EGR valve. After I professionally installed the engine there was a knock in the lower end. I brought the car in so that mark could diagnose the issue. Mark told me that one of the valve adjusters were stripped out ( which was a lie ). I picked up the car and the knock was still there with no change. I brought the car back in and mark told me that it was just piston slap. So which one was it MARK stripped out adjuster of piston slap. On a positive note; there has been no metal shavings in the oil when I change it. Also; my check engine light was on due to the EGR elimination so I contacted MARK to find out which was the best tuner to install so I can eliminate the engine light . I left several messages with no return calls so I guess since he's got my money it doesn't matter anymore. They were also trying to reset the light without a tuner then told me that I might need a different computer ( lie ). Hey guys. You CANT reset the light without a tuner to trick the computer. Duh!!! Our experience with East Valley was nothing but professional. We had written the car off and was going to salvage it, then we decided to give it to Mark to see what he could do. The little car is back on the road, running beautifully. The one thing we really appreciate about Mark is his constant communication with us. This little car had a lot of problems, but now she's good as new. With the money saved by going to Mark, and the ease of working with such great people, I would definitely refer anyone to them. If you buy your parts for them to install, they will take your brand new parts, and install old and used parts. Bought a brand new exedy clutch and flywheel kit, as well as a new clutch fork. Not what's in the car now. Complete joke of a company. Found a few other reviews with similar issues. So I had to report my issues to the bbb and wa state attorney general. You are 110% better off going to a dealer(or another shop) for the prices mark charges. Side note, my brother brought his car here, with a completely fine brand new radiator (my step dad installed it) he got his car back and noticed it was severely leaking. Got it pulled out and there were at least 2 large screw driver or pry bar stabbings through the rad, and several dings and dents. Spent close to 400 for the rad only to have this shop destroy it. read more

Avoid these guys unless you like paying top dollar for inferior parts. I paid $200 for a radiator last year (plus other small parts & $400 labor, total $800 repair), and it sprung a leak on me less than 12 months later. Turns out they installed an aluminum core radiator with plastic tanks. I'm working on the car myself now, and I found an all metal brass / copper replacement for $50 online. We'll see how that goes... They also did my brakes another time, and installed some crazy pads up front. I warped two sets of rotors within 15k miles, and barely wore the pads. Another time, they forgot to latch the airbox after changing the air filter. My car stalled a week later from debris plugging up the airflow sensor. "Whoops". To sum it up, they do know how to fix Subarus, but they don't use great parts, and I don't think they are earning their high labor rates. I'm much happier to be fixing my car myself these days. read more

I brought my 2003 Outback to have an oil leak that was causing my car to smoke bad. I contacted East Valley Auto Rebuild was given a quote of $2,500 dollars, took my car there it took about 10 days. during that time the owner contacted me about other issue he found that had not cause me any issues. New radiator, bushing came up to $4,800 dollar, they called and said everything was good they test drove it come pick it up. Drove my care home and it was smoking just as bad as it was when I took it there, they feed me some bull about cleaner they used just drive it and it would stop. I took it to the car washer and cleaned it but it didn't stop smoking. I took my car back and left it for three more days, I get a call saying oh we must have missed something, but they had it for three more days you would think they fixed what they were paid to fix in the first place, BUT no nothing was done to fix the problem. 45 days later still really bad smoking coming from the exact same place. I have contacted a lawyer and will be suing this company. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RIPOFF JOINT. read more

I've never reviewed any businesses online. But I'm fairly certain this needs to be shared. These guys are shady. And I know they take these reviews seriously since they offer an oil-change discount if you review them favorably. I'm no mechanic and I don't have a lot of money to spend on cars. I bought a 1987 Subaru GL from East Valley (for the exact price they asked) over two years ago. It had many miles on it and I didn't expect perfection. My problem with East Valley is not that they don't do good mechanical work; I don't know enough to determine that. I took my car to them with idle/stall problems early in 2012. They looked at it overnight and charged me $225. When I arrived to pick it up, one hubcap was missing. I questioned Mark about it, and he scoffed at me, saying I'd brought it in missing a hubcap. I had not. The hubcap was actually on the ground at the back of the garage. Mark pretended like it was from another vehicle. Additionally, a side panel was missing from my driver's door. It had been tossed into the back of my car. When I asked about that, Mark said it came off when they were cleaning the car. That I could put it back on myself. Of course I could, but I've been taught that if you break something, you fix it, especially if I'm paying you. Then, on the diagnosis, they told me I needed a new alternator. It would cost close to $300 for them to put one in. I looked online and saw alternators for around $70. So I declined their service - the car operated ok at that time and I could drive it home. My buddy had an extra alternator from his Suby. We installed it ourselves and it took less than 30 minutes. So I'm not sure where the $300 quote came from. I've taken my Suby to a different shop since to have a new Weber carb installed. The mechanics there noticed a laundry list of problems on the vehicle, problems that don't often show up on an engine that has been, as East Valley claimed, completely rebuilt prior to my purchasing it. (The total estimate on repair cost was near $2000.) Oh well, I'm a chump for buying an old car at such a price, but I'm not chump enough to let the story of East Valley go untold. I used to be loyal to the Subaru dealer service, but when my WRX hit 100K miles, the dealer gave me an estimate for over $3000 of repairs. I called East Valley Auto rebuild to compare. They gave me the same service for over $1000 less than the dealer. I am very satisfied with their quality of work, speed, and communication. Brought my 1995 Jeep Grand cherokee in for a transmission check. The people are very nice. The transmission is fine but they did detect a few small minor leaks (rear main, and transfer case) nothing major yet and suggested to just keep and eye on it. The technicians are all ASE certified. Chris the technician drove my vehicle with me on board. Very honest and I will definitely go back if i need autmotive work done. read more

I thought I would be paying high prices for quality service. $500 just to tell me I needed one of their rebuilt transmissions for $3000 installed. They had my car for three weeks. Now, I've replaced transmissions before, I know they are time consuming and expensive. For $3000 and three weeks, I assumed they were doing a really thorough job. When I picked up the car, the transmission light was flashing. When I asked about it, they told me it was a glitch. That made me a little upset, considering there shouldn't be any "glitches" after $3000 and three weeks. I took the car back the very next day, because the car was doing the exact same thing it was doing before I took it in, except now, it was doing it more quietly. They told me the new transmission just need some "break in" time. Took it back a week later for the same issue. This time, they told me they had used a faulty part, and if I wanted them to fix it, it would cost me another $500...this DESPITE the warranty they gave me. They also kept telling me throughout the entire process that my car need a full (what they call) "Nose Job" (reseal of the entire engine) that would cost about another $3000. These folks are con-artists...I highly suggest avoiding them at all cost. read more
